Store Owner, Convicted Felon With 18 Assault Rifles, 40000 Rounds Arrested
Federal agents are trying to determine how a suspected Ohio white supremacist with a felony conviction for manslaughter acquired a cache of 18 assault weapons and other firearms, along with high-capacity magazines and more than 40000 rounds of ammunition, according to federal law enforcement officials and court documents reviewed by NBC News. The storehouse of weapons was discovered late last month when FBI agents arrested Richard Schmidt, 47, the owner of a Bowling Green sporting goods store called Spindletop Sports Zone, on charges of marketing counterfeit goods — such as football jerseys with NFL logos — from China. Although initially portrayed as a probe into the thriving international market for counterfeit clothing, the case took a surprising turn this week when the US Attorney's Office in Cleveland unsealed search warrants and an indictment also charging Schmidt with illegal possession of firearms. According to the documents, FBI agents who searched Schmidt's sporting goods store and four trailers behind it, found a stash of weapons that included AR-15 assault rifles, Ruger and Sig Sauer semi-automatic pistols, bulletproof body armor and high-capacity magazines as well as ammunition. The agents also discovered evidence of Schmidt's ties to the neo-Nazi movement, documents show. Among the evidence seized, according to search warrants, was a video of a national convention of the neo-Nazi National Socialist Movement; bumper stickers of the National Alliance party ...

Judge Rules In Favor Of Chicago Police In Jerry Miller Wrongful Conviction Case - NBC 5
A federal district court judge has ruled in favor of three retired Chicago police officers who were sued by Jerry Miller in a federal civil rights lawsuit. Miller was convicted in 1982 of raping a woman at a parking garage in the Gold Coast section of Chicago. Miller was identified by two employees who worked at the parking garage and stopped a man later identified as Miller - as he was attempting to drive his rape victims car out of the parking garage, with the victim locked in the trunk. After spending 26 years in prison, Miller was released after DNA testing from the crime scene proved that Miller was not the rapist. Shortly thereafter, Miller filed a civil lawsuit, alleging that several now retired Chicago police officers had framed him for the crime by conducting a suggestive lineup and failing to disclose material exculpatory evidence. Judge Suzanne B. Conlon rejected all of Millers claims against the officers and granted their motion for summary judgment in its entirety finding as a matter of law that the officers did not engage in any misconduct. The retired police officers were represented by attorneys Andrew Hale, Avi Kamionski, Ebone Liggins, and Christina Liu from the law firm of Andrew M. Hale & Associates, LLC.
