Benjamin James Fritz (born March 29, 1981 in San Jose, California) is a minor league baseball player who was a first-round selection in the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft who is currently in the Chicago White Sox organization. He was discussed in the Michael Lewis book Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game.
Fritz attended Oak Grove High School and Fresno State University. In 2001, he was a Summer League First-Team All-American. In 2002, he was the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year, a second team College All-American, and Western Athletic Conference All-Star.
He was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the first round (30th overall) of the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft, with the pick obtained from the St. Louis Cardinals as compensation for the free agent signing of Jason Isringhausen. Fritz was one of twenty players Athletics General Manager Billy Beane decided he would draft in a perfect world (meaning if money was no object and no other teams were drafting).
Fritz played for the Vancouver Canadians of the Northwest League (Class A Short Season) and Visalia Oaks of the California League (Class A Advanced) in 2002. In 2003, Fritz played for the Modesto A's of the California League. In 2004, Fritz pitched for the Midland Rockhounds of the Texas League (Class AA).
Friedrich "Fritz" Karl Otto Wunderlich (September 26, 1930 – September 17, 1966) was a German lyric tenor, famed for his singing of the Mozart repertory and Italian and German opera and lieder. He died in an accident when he was only 35. In a survey published in the BBC Music Magazine of April 2008, Wunderlich was voted the fourth greatest tenor of all time.
Fritz Wunderlich was born in Kusel in the Palatinate. His mother was a violinist and his father was a choir-master. For a short time, the family kept the inn "Emrichs Bräustübl". Fritz's father lost his job due to pressure imposed upon him by local Nazis, in addition to suffering from a severe battlefield injury. He committed suicide when Fritz was five years old.
The story regarding Wunderlich's discovery parallels many of his contemporaries (notably Nicolai Gedda and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau). As a young man Wunderlich worked in a bakery. At the insistence of neighbors and passers-by who had witnessed his musical gifts and beautiful voice, Wunderlich decided to begin studies in music. He managed to obtain a scholarship in order to pursue his studies at the Freiburg Music Academy where he studied French horn and voice.
Fritz Artz Springmeier is an American conspiracy theorist and religious right wing author, formerly a resident of Corbett, Oregon, who has written a number of books claiming that satanic forces are behind a move toward world domination by various families and organizations. He has described his goal as "exposing the New World Order agenda."
Springmeier has written and self-published a number of books based on the ideology of what's been described as an "ultra-right-wing group" called the Christian Patriot Association; this group was shut down in 2002 after convictions for tax fraud and tax evasion. He has endorsed the plausibility of Project Monarch, a purported Central Intelligence Agency mind control project whose conjectured existence is based only on the testimony of Cathy O'Brien under hypnosis.
Springmeier's early work, The Watchtower & the Masons, focuses on the relationship between Jehovah's Witnesses and Freemasonry. In this book he describes a relationship between Charles Taze Russell and the so-called "Eastern Establishment". Springmeier followed these links into Masonry and did a further examination of the Eastern establishment.[citation needed]
