Jean Shepherd - "Shepherd's Pie"
Opening monologue from an episode of "Shepherd's Pie" (1977-1978), which was broadcast on New Jersey Public Television. Basically a video version of the type of opening monologue Shep would have done on his WOR radio show (1955-1977). Is it me, or does Shep seem uncomfortable, "out of his element" (like a fish out of water) on TV? Radio was the man's medium, in my humble opinion, and I think he knew it.

Part 1: Jean Shepherd's "I Libertine" Literary Hoax
New York radio personality Jean Shepherd had a midnight to 5:30 AM show on station WOR in the early 1950s. He and his listeners created the "I Libertine" hoax. Unlike most hoaxes in which a few conspirators are involved, this one involved anyone who listened to Shepherd's late night show. It worked because those who listened to late night radio were separate from the mass of daytime people. Shepherd's purpose was to raise skepticism about fads and popularity and show these could be produced artificially. The demonstration remains relevant for a wide range of phenomena, even financial bubbles, which rely on imitative behavior, once an idea is planted. This is part 1; the story continues on part 2. Shepherd related this story in a radio interview in the mid-1960s.

WOR Jean Shepherd - theme song - Bahn Frei (Fast Track)
Eduard Strauss' style was individual and did not attempt to emulate the works of his other brothers or his contemporaries. But he was primarily remembered and recognized as a dance music conductor rather than as a major composer in the Strauss family, and his popularity was overshadowed by that of his elder brothers. Realising this, he stamped his own mark with the quick polka, known in German as the "polka-schnell". Among the more popular polkas that he ever penned for the Strauss Orchestra, which he continued to conduct until its disbandment on 13 February 1901, were "Bahn Frei", op. 45.(Fast Track).

Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss by Jean Shepherd - Part 1/9
Jean Shepherd's "Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss." This 1988 film follows "A Christmas Story" with Jean Shepherd narrating as an adult Ralphie as he and his family from Indiana travel on vacation to a cabin in Michigan, which is almost thwarted when Ralphie gets a Summer job moving furniture and the family's dog "Fuzzhead" goes missing. Apologies for the poor quality as this was captured from a VHS tape of an old TV recording.
