While the concept of a virgin island might seem appetising in theory, let’s remind ourselves that it would most likely consist of a gaggle of scrawny teenagers with what could only be described as a less than fortunate complexion. Still, it’s these rather sad images that often give rise to great art; you know, because Nietzsche viewed tragedy as the art form of sensual acceptance of the terrors of reality. Or so Wikipedia tells me.
‘Summer Knights’ has gone under considerable evolution since it was first announced earlier this year. It’s first carnation was a collaborative EP with the Pro Era crew, before it was announced it would be a solo Joey Bada$$ release, before announcing it would be expanded to a mixtape.
Whether it’s the new Daft Punk album, the new Queens of the Stone Age album, or anything to do with Ryan Hemsworth, this year just will not stop giving. Which is why news of a rejuvenated Moderat, with new material to back it up, has yet to set the world on fire; we’re just too spoiled. In fact, we’re becoming that fat kid who doesn’t even like cake anymore, but he keeps piling it in anyway.
Having already put out standout releases on Night Slugs‘s White Label series and Terror Danjah‘s Hardrive, PJam has announced the impending release of his forthcoming EP for Beatcamp.
I think the thing I love most about Chris Widman (who put together this mixtape for us back in May last year) and his Quadratic collaboration with Colin Harris is that it’s really quite difficult to describe what kind of music they actually make. Ostensibly, they push the sound of Chicago House and footwork. However, the sound of old-skool jungle and breaks is never far behind them.
The Melbourne-based duo – Conrad Standish (bass/vocal) and Tom Carlyon (guitar/electronics) – haven’t quite marked out the reputation they deserve but with a small New York tour on the way I can’t imagine it will be long. To celebrate their tour they’re giving away HTRK‘s remix of the increasingly ubiquitous ‘Nono/Yoyo’, a crushing dirge (and I mean that in a good way) of industrial electronica that will give you arrhythmia if you’re not careful.
You may remember some time back I got rather excited about an upcoming collaboration between TOKiMONSTA and the truly legendary Ultramagnetic MCs founder Kool Keith. Well the wait is finally over as TOKiMONSTA’s ‘Half Shadows’ LP has been released and we now have news we will be treated to an EP of remixes of the collaboration.

It seems odd that Raffertie has yet to release his debut album. Having kept atop of the heavy bass, minimal house and dubstep scenes, you’d be forgiven for think Raffertie has been going for longer than he has.
