First single off the Joey Bada$$ EP “Summer Knights”
New cover art for “Summer Knights” By @tonywhlgn
Joey Bada$$ has been fairly quiet since the last Pro Era mixtape “Peep the Aprocopalypse”. Not to worry though, because this EP looks like it’s going to be another classic. With smooth production from Statik Selektah, this first single is a good taste of what we can expect from the young Brooklyn rapper in the near future (June 12th to be exact), “Eye” expect good things.

Robb Bank$
Robb Bank$ got a bit of attention with his first mixtape “Calendars” but it doesn’t seem this FLA resident is quite satisfied. In the past month Bank$ has released three tracks that really show how good this cat can be, “Practice” featuring Sir Michael Rocks & “All The Way Live” produced by Spaceghostpurrp are two stand out tracks that will be featured in his next project. Keep an eye on this cat, he will be making more than just noise soon.

Trippy Turtle
Almost a month ago Ryan Hemsworth released the Downtown NYC Mix for NY’s Downtown Festival. It included a wide variety of songs from different genres but one song stuck to me right off the bat. After he mixes Mr.Carmack’s “Uppers” with Danny Brown’s “Kush Coma” a Jersey Club remix of Ginuwine’s “In Those Jeans” by an anonymous artists simply named Trippy Turtle comes on. Instantly I went searching for this artist and found him/her on Soundcloud. Since then he has released 3 songs which includes Justin Timberlake’s “Senorita“, Elle Varner’s “Only Wanna Give It To You” & one simply called “Getting Wood” which is a collaboration with Booty Beaver. In between Elle’s & “Getting Wood” Trippy reposted Cashmere Cat’s Diplo & Friends mix…. this left me wondering… is Trippy Cashmere? Well with the similar names I’d think so. Anyways, check out this “cat’s” stuff cause i’m sure it’ll be spun by quite a few top name DJ’s.

Kaytranada Interview
Montreal’s Kaytranada opened for Kastle at Fortune Sound May 19th and we even got JMSN to come up the street from his Electric Owl show to perform “Alone”. It’s easy to say that we had lots of talent in the building that night. I got to speak with Kaytranada after his performance about personal interests, future projects and his current European tour. Keep in mind English is not his first language, excuse his french.
Q: First off, what was the first song that really hit off for you?
Kay: The “If” remix, every time I go to any event everyone is talking about the Janet Jackson remix. I don’t really have a choice to play it in my set, the people always scream for it.
Q: You had that project with your brother, were you ever going to release a full mixtape?
Kay: Yeah, yeah! My brother is gonna like this shit. We’re working on a mixtape right now, it’s probably gonna be out in June or when i’ll be back from Tour cause we’re working on it and the mixtape is almost done.
Q: I had heard rumors that you were moving to Paris?
Kay: Where did you get that? I never said I’m going to France but I am going on a European tour. I’m not leaving Montreal at all, I still live with moms, you think I got money for that? Hell no!
Q: Haha, originally you are from Haiti right?
Kay: Yea, I was born there.
Q: What are your main influences?
Kay: J Dilla, Madlib
Q: Are you thinking of signing with anybody? Have any offers come to the table? That you can speak of.
Kay: I can’t really tell about it because it’s not really official but I don’t really wanna be in a label. Probably wanna be independent or if you did a good album by yourself maybe some company is gonna help it’s distribution.
Q: How did the JMSN collaboration come about?
Kay: JMSN asked me to remix one of his songs called “Love & Pain” and my manager said cool then he asked JMSN’s manager “What you think of about JMSN & Kaytranada collaborating on a track?” his manager was down and JMSN hit me up saying “Send me some beats”. I sent three instrumentals which I didn’t even think were that nice and an hour later he recorded the track. To be honest, the final album version is what it sounded like when he first sent it to me, it really didn’t take that long.
Q: How does it feel to be sharing your music to full crowds and going on tour?
Kay: I mean, it really feels great. It’s everything that maybe a DJ wants, to be recognized a little bit or it might grow and get bigger but it is crazy to me. I mean, I’m in Vancouver right now you know! Even though it’s in Canada but like I still think it’s crazy, when I went to Toronto I still can’t believe I went to Toronto to do a show and people came to see me. I don’t understand it.
Q: So, are you liking the travelling?
Kay: I really love it BUT I did start doing the tour. It might be a pending yes cause I really wanna go home sometimes cause you get home sick but that’s with anything you do.
Q: That wave bass sound you’ve got, would you say that it’s your “signature sound”?
Kay: I don’t wanna say that but I’ve never heard anyone do it with the bass. It was something that I found when I was doing a beat and I didn’t see anyone do it with the bass.
Q: Who’s an artist that you can always fall back on?
Kay: I gotta say it’s Madlib all the way, I don’t know… it’s different. The way he uses samples, it sounds so raw and that’s what’s missing in Hip-Hop stuff, they are always doing clean stuff but Madlib is straight raw shit and I know that Madlib only does that.
Q: What can we expect from you in the future?
Kay: I really don’t know but expect it to get better and expect the best.
Thanks a lot to Kaytranada for his time, if you are somewhere in Europe check him out!
I leave you with my favorite song of his, “Typically Her”.

Winnie Reviews: Atlas Genius @ Venue
I stayed the whole time. I stayed for the encore.
For those of you who don’t know, Atlas Genius are an indie rock band from Adelaide, South Australia. The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Keith Jeffery and Michael Jeffery on drums.
The show was good, but more importantly was the crowd they pulled — in Vancouver. They were all lined up at the front of the stage before the opener went on. Atlas Genius are talented group. They seem to have enough momentum at the moment to break even, and if they play their cards right it should lead somewhere. Download their single “Centered on You” for free below and catch them the next time they’re playing near you, it’s worth a look.

MS MR – Think Of You
It’s been said that true beauty comes from the depths of a broken heart, and I’m beginning to think this isn’t just an urban legend.
New York-based duo MS MR released their debut-studio album “Secondhand Rapture” earlier this month and from it comes several tracks about longing, loss, and complete romantic despair. However, one track in particular, the impeccably titled “Think Of You”, will be remembered for years to come.
With “Think Of You”, Lizzy Plapinger and Max Hershenow (who make up MS MR) perfectly encapsulate what it feels like to realize the person you once loved was a toxic bomb of negativity. They were (and probably still are) a burden of hate with dark clouds that follow them everywhere, picking you up to bring you down.
Yet, somehow after hearing this song, you’ll get a sense of satisfaction from the fact that they were completely wrong, and karma is one hell of a bitch.
