I feel like a stranger in this home I share with you
I can't understand this awful change you're going through
But lately I've been watchin' you grow colder every day
And I'd rather be gone than in your way
I'd rather be gone than in your way I'd rather have someone else here in my place
And if I decide on leavin' my world will end today
But I'd rather be gone than in your way
[ piano ]
I'd rather be gone...
Oh how far can we go you and me doin' this
We're doin' the things that only sinners do but I can't keep my mind off of you
We made a mistake one night and didn't quit
So how far can we go you and me doin' this
We're strangers by day and lovers by night
And I feel like a thief when I hold you tight
The ring on my finger shows that I'm still his
So how far can we go you and me doin' this
Lovin' like there's no tomorrow or past we're takin' the backroad go and go out fast
The ring on my finger shows that I'm still his
So how far can we go you and me doin' this
So how far can we go you and me me and you everyday all the time doin' this
How I love to be around you when the lonely night surrounds you
How I love to be alone with you
How I love to have the power to read your mind one hour
How I love to be alone with you
Just to be with you one night you and me alone
Kiss your lips and hold you tight have you for my own
This would be a joy unending could be a real beginning
How I love to be alone with you
[ ac.guitar ]
How I'd love to be around you when the lonely night surrounds you
How I love to be alone with you
If I only knew for certain I'd cut out all my flirtin'
How I love to be alone with you
Just to be with you one night...
How I love to be alone with you how I love to be alone with you
Why not tell me that I'm really losing you
It's no secret that you've found somebody new
I just hope that she'll love you the way I do
Go on and go if you need her like I need you
Go on and go if you want her I understand
Between your passion and your pride you're half a man
I don't want your kiss without your sweet love too
Go on and go if you need her like I need you
[ piano - guitar ]
Go on and go if you want her...
Well I like my lovin' done country style and this little girl would walk a country mile
To find her a good ole slow talkin' country boy I said a country boy
I'm about as old fashioned as I can be and I hope you're likin' what you see
Cause if you're lookin' at me you're lookin' at country
You don't see no city when you look at me cause country's all I am
I love runnin' barefoot through the old cornfields and I love that country ham
Well you say I'm made just to fit your plans
But there's a barnyad shavel pick your hands
If your eyes are on me you're lookin' at country
[ dobro ]
This here country is a little green and there's a lotta country that you ain't seen
I'll show you around if you'll show me a weddin' band I said a weddin' band
When it comes to love well I know about that country folks all know where it's at
If you're lookin' at me you're lookin' at country
You don't see no city...
If your eyes are on me you're lookin' at country
Don't you think it's a little too late to show those tears
Just look out the way you're treatin' me all these years
I'm a full grown woman but you're treatin' me like a kid
You didn't like my lovin' so I found someone that did
You didn't like my lovin' so I found someone that did
And the one I found really made me flip my lid
After all that past I'm learnin' to live at last
You didn't like my lovin' so I found someone that did
[ steel - dobro ]
Far as I'm concerned you can turn and walk out that door
Cause the way we'd made it don't make it with me no more
Where your head used to lay there's another head there instead
You didn't like my lovin' so I found someone that did
You didn't like my lovin'...
You didn't like my lovin' so I found someone that did
I make my way through every day just because it's there
I've learned to live without your love but I can't learn not to care
And all the hurt I left for you won't make my wrong turn right
Oh yesterday will come again tonight
Little bits and pieces that once made up our home
Come back to visit with my mind each night when I'm alone
Oh round and round my mem'ries go they're never out of sight
Oh yesterday will come again tonight
Yesterday will come again tonight just as soon as I turn out the lights
(Ah think about it baby)
My mama said the seed you sow is surely what you'll reap
Every night I find it's harvest time when I lay me down to sleep
[ guitar - piano ]
Oh yesterday will come again tonight...
I've been living a new way of life that I love so
But I can see the clouds are gathering and the storm will wreck our home
For last night she hugged you tightly and you didn't even shove
This is true for I've been watching from the window up above
You must have thought that I was sleeping oh Lord I wish that I had been
But it's best to get to know you and the way your heart can sin
I thought we belonged together and our hearts fit like a glove
But I was wrong for I've been watching from the window up above
[ piano ]
From my eyes the teardrops started as I listened on and on
Heard you whisper to her softly that our marriage was all wrong
But I hope she makes you happy and you'll never lose her love
I lost mine while I was watching from the window up above
How I wished I could be dreaming wake up to the love that's true
But I can't for I was watching from the window up above
In our little one room country school it's where I learned to pray
A church without a steeple that's where I learned to pray
Every Sunday morning about the hour of ten
The door would open to our school the preacher did walk in
He'd smile and say good morning how everything today
We'd bow our heads and close our eyes and then he'd say let's pray
In our little one room country school it's where I learned to pray
Our church that had no steeple is no longer there today
From Monday until Friday at school we'd learn and play
Then back at school on Sunday that's where I learned to pray
[ piano ]
Our clothes were clean but faded sometimes our feet were bare
But no one noticed anything except the Lord was there
We'd come from all directions searching for the way
Harmonizes at school on Sunday that's where I learned to pray
In our little one room...
Let's forget unpleasent memories let them lie there in the past
Make believe here in my arms is where you belong
Yes I need you to love me each night when I'm alone
When I turn off my light your mem'ry turns on
I return the love she gives me till you mem'ry gets so strong
I exist in a house where I don't feel at home
How can love feel so right and still feel so wrong
When I turn off my light your mem'ry turns on
When I turn off my light your mem'ry turns on
Then I turn and reach for you and again find you're gone
But you stay with her she loves you and she's never done you wrong
When I turn off my light your mem'ry turns on
Still when I turn off my light your mem'ry turns on
Today for her it's only been thirteen years of livin'
And for me it's been a wonderful thirteen years of givin'
She grows taller every day and farther from my world
God help me reach this stranger my little girl
Music I can't understand replaced her nursery rhymes
No longer can I even guess what's running through her mind
Her long straight hair has forgotten ribbons and soft curles
God please protect this stranger my little girl
Can she hear the worried sound in her mom's conversation
Can she see the anquish in my look of desperation
Can she feel my love for her pulling against her world
I love her so this stranger my little girl
Has she so soon forgotten just how closed we used to be
And how went something troubled her she'd always run to me
But mom can't solve her problems she keeps locked inside her world
God help me reach this stranger my little girl
Can she hear the worried sound...
THE THIRD MAN
(Bobby Helms - Teddy Wilburn - Frances Heighton)
« © '65 Tree Publishing »
Last night I dreamed I took a walk up Calvary's lonely hill
The things I saw with my own eyes could not have been more real
I saw upon three crosses three men in agony
Two cried out for mercy and the third man he looked at me
And oh the hurt in this man's eyes that just broke my heart in two
It seemed I could hear him say son I'm doing this for you
I knelt beneath the third mean's cross and slowly bowed my head
I reached out to touch his feet and it stained my hand's with red
And when I heard him cry in pain I raised my eyes to see
The blood spilled from the third man's side and some of it spilled on me
The third man wore a crown of thorns spikes held him to the tree
And I heard him say oh my God my God why hast Thou forsaken me
And there within a mighty crowd the ones who mocked him cried
King save Thyself if thou art King and then the third man died
Suddenly I heard the thunder roll I saw the lightening pierce the sky
The third man was still hanging there and I began to cry
I saw the boulders fall and heard the breaking of the ground
Then I awoke and though I dreamed I touched my cheek and found
My eyes were wet where I had cried a dream I wished I knew
I still can hear the third man say I'm doing this for you
There's a built-in trouble maker in every man
It's always been that way since time began
He lie to you make you think you're the only oneY**ou'd better know how to keep him out of your mind
His words so sweet that he whispers in you ear
You'd better not believe everything you hear
So watch him close than love him all you can
Cause there's a built-in trouble maker in every man
Oh let me tell you somethin' here's what you gotta do
You'd better give him lovin' but he ain't been used to
Hild him in the morning squeeze him tight at night
Do the little things he loves and he would treat you right
There's a built-in trouble maker in every man
It's always been that way since time began
He lie to you make you think you're the only one
Cause there's a built-in trouble maker in every man
[ guitar + steel ]
Oh let me tell you somethin'...
In your haste you left and said you'd be returnin'
In my sorrow I forgot to ask you when
In my lonely room I sit and count the hours
Every minute hopin' I'll look up and you'll come walkin' in
For then and only then will I stop cryin'
And this aching breaking heart of mine will mend
Not until I feel your arms around me will I be happy and I live for then and only then
[ steel ]
All that's left inside my heart is just your echo
And the tiny thread of hope to which I cling
But if I keep holding on maybe some day
You'll remember where you left me and come back for me again
For then and only then...
Almost heaven West Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains Shenandoah River
Life is old there older than the trees
Younger than the mountains blowin' like the breeze
Country roads take me home to the place I belong
West Virginia mountain mama take me home country roads
All my mem'ries gather round her miner's lady stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty painted on the sky misty taste of moonshine teardrops in my eye
Country roads take me home...
I hear her voice in the mornin' as she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
Drivin' down the road I get a feelin' that I should have been
Home yesterday yesterday
Country roads take me home...
La da da da da in the mornin' as she calls me
La da da da da da da da home far away mhm
I just heard the saddest news somebody's back in town
And I know just what she's gonna do
She'll pick up what she left off her last time around
Oh how it hurts to keep on losin' you
Somebody's back in town to steal your love from me
The fear I've had so long is now reality
The only chance I have is when she throws you down
My chance is gone somebody's back in town
[ steel ]
I know that I can't change your way we've been through that before
Her trap is set and you will walk right in
She only wants of love an up-affair and nothing more
And you're just fool enough to fall again
Somebody's back in town why can't she stay away
You should know she never loved you anyway
She'll let you live a little then she'll throw you down
Sad news today somebody's back in town
See that mountain I'm gonna have to climb
Well there's a river waitin' on the other side
And the road leading nowhere I'll take it for I must
He's somewhere tomorrow or I'll bust
You can go along with me and be my friend
Or you can stay and wish you'd gone alone
And you can follow me in postcard that I'll send
But by the time you enter I'll be gone
Life is a circle spinning round searching for what you haven't found
I leave today to look for my tomorrow
Tomorrow I'll come searching for today
[ ac.guitar ]
See that mountain I'm gonna have to climb...
I don't know that I'd be coming back this way
But if you stay and I'd come back someday
Then I'll teach you the lessons that I've learned
And I'll build back the bridges that I've burned
Life is a circle spinning round...
Yeah tomorrow I'll come searching for today
How many times have you heard someone say
If I had his money I could do things my way
But little they know that it's so hard to find one rich man in ten with a satisfied mind
Once I was winning in fortune and fame
Everything that I dreamed for to get a start in life's game
But suddenly it happened I lost every dime but I'm richer by far with a satisfied mind
[ steel ]
Money can't buy back your youth when you're old
Or a friend when you're lonely or a love that's grown cold
The wealthiest person is a proper at time compared to the man with a satisfied mind
When life has ended and time has run out
My friends and my loved ones I'll leave there's no doubt
But there's one thing for certain when it comes my time
I'll leave this old world with a satisfied mind
Red comes from my Grandpa, he's an all American Brave.
White come from my Grandma, she's a red-headed Irish maid.
The blue come from the man I love, 'cause this boy said I do.
That leaves me a mixed-up with the red, white and blue.
I'm red, white and blue, ah ooh ah ooh ah ooh, ah ooh ah ooh ah ooh
And proud of it too.
I'm a blue-eyed Indian squaw, everybody calls me a half-breed.
That's what you get when you sow a little red and a white seed.
The white man said he'd marry me, he liked cold turkey too.
That leaves me a mixed-up with the red, white and blue.
I'm Red White and Blue, ah ooh ah ooh ah ooh, ah ooh ah ooh ah ooh
And proud of it too.
The great white powers had a plan to take the red man's land.
Well, I bet you think I'm petulant, but I'd never lie to you.
There's warrior's blood runs through my veins, an' I wish my skin was true.
Wish my skin was true.
I'm Red White and Blue. ah ooh ah ooh ah ooh, ah ooh ah ooh ah ooh
I'm Red White and Blue. ah ooh ah ooh ah ooh, ah ooh ah ooh ah ooh
I'm Red White and Blue. ah ooh ah ooh ah ooh, ah ooh ah ooh ah ooh
Well if you've been a married woman and things didn't seem to work out
Divorce is the key to bein' loose and free so you're gonna be talked about
Everybody knows that you've loved once so they think you'll love again
You can't have a male friend when you're a has been of a woman you're rated X
And if you're rated X you're some kind of goal every man might try to make
But I think it's wrong to judge every picture if a cheap camera makes a mistake
And when your best friend's husband says to you you've sure started lookin' good
You should've known he would and he would if he could and he will if you're rated X
[ steel ]
Well nobody knows where you're goin' but they sure know where you've been
All their thinkin' of is your experience of love their minds eat up with sin
The women all look at you like you're bad and the men all hope you are
But if you go too far you're gonna wear the scar of a woman rated X
And if you're rated X...
Ah your warm lips are inviting as they tremble with desire
And everytime I see you it adds more fuel to the fire
And again we'll share the love that's shouldn't be
Just between the three of us our conscience you and me
But our patiences are stronger then the will to do what's right
While someone else waits at home we'll meet again tonight
Then I'll hold you close and love you tenderly
Just between the three of us our conscience you and me
[ steel ]
While hiding in the shadows our love blooms at night
Though we know it's wrong we still go on we've lost control of all that's right
But if the love's so strong this wrong why should it be
Just between the three of us our conscience you and me
If I had counted one two three before I made you cry
If I had counted four and five and made another try
If we had counted six seven eight and made a brand new start
If we had counted nine and ten we wouldn't be apart
One two three come back to me and let bygones go by
Four and five I know that I've been a foolish guy
Six seven eight give me a date and I'll be as good as pie
Nine and ten kiss me again who wants to say goodbye
[ steel - guitar ]
If I had counted one two three before I walked away
If I had counted four and five well I'd whispered darling stay
If we had counted six seven eight and turned on all our charms
If we had counted nine and ten we'd be in each other's arms
One two three come back to me...
One to ten kiss me again who wants to say goodbye
The sun goes down and you come around with evening
Saying that you love ah but I know
That it really isn't tenderness you're feelin'
You're here cause you've got no place else to go
You'll ask how I've been doin' and you'll smile that same old smile
You'll touch my cheek and turn the lights down low
We'll kiss and I'll forget for just a while
That you're here cause you've got no place else to go
Ah no place else to go and no place else to be
No one else to take you in but good old easy me
When morning comes I tell myself I'll never
Do this again but deep iseide I know
I'm here because I'm bound to you forever
And you're here cause you've got no place else to go
[ fiddle - steel ]
I'm here because I'm bound to you forever
And you're here cause you've got no place else to go
(Oh mama why did God take my daddy cause I'd been good just like he said to be
I heard daddy pray dear Lord don't take me from them
Oh mama why did God take him from me)
Come here son you've asked mama somethin' that's even hard for me to understand
For there's one thing I do know
Daddy wouldn't gonna see those tears in the eyes of this big man
So stop cryin' now and listen real careful to every word mama has to say
You see son God picks the sweetest most beautiful flowers that grow
And he makes them the brightest shiniest stars that glow
Now daddy talk with the Lord every day and daddy and God'll be real close
So let's just say it seems that God takes the ones he loves the most
(Oh mama why did God take my daddy)
Son you haven't heard a word that mama said
So come on now let's say your prayers and mama tuck you in bed
And we must have questioned God cause he already has everything planned
And honey daddy can't ever come back to us though we can go to him
(Oh mama why did God take him from me)
I've been in and out of every honky tonk in town
And I'm almost drunk from the drinks
That I've turned down
Well, you told me you'd be happy
Bouncin' babies on your knee
While I sit at home alone
And i've been bouncin three
Yeah, and I'm tired of it too
[Chorus:]
I'm gonna call myself a long pick limousine
Yeah, believe it or not it's the prettiest thing
I think I've ever seen
There's a big bar in the corner, and a TV on the side
This baby's 60 feet long and 40 feet wide
Hey driver pull this car, buddy, right inside the bar
Take it on back to the big ol' blonde
That thinks she's amovie star
I'm gonna grab her by her phony ponytail
I'm gonna sling her around and around
When she wakes up she'll know she met up
With Mad Mrs. Leroy Brown
Well the smokes so dog gone thick
You could cut it with a knife
And the music so loud
You can hear the same line twice
Hey Leroy Brown, how do you like my big old pink limo
I just drawed all your money outta the bank today
Honey, you don't have no mo'
[Chorus]
Love's been here and gone but the mem'ry keeps holding on
Now I know how I'd be if I can leave through this love's been here and gone
When there's love your heart is strong but it weakens when love goes wrong
Now I've known that power dealt the parting hour love's been here and gone
I've loved once but never again a closed heart just won't let love in
Hopin' only to you oh what can I do love's been here and gone
[ piano ]
I've loved once but never again...
I can't believe the life we live or the love that we can't give to each other
I only know my dreams are gone and that you've been carrying on with another
That won't let us stop it we're too blind to drop it
So we still go on living together alone
[ steel ]
Oh I don't know how long we'll survive living here where love has died it's a wonder
Loneliness surrounds this house now we'll get by I don't how we're together
A house that's dividing will tumble to the ground
And yet we still go on living together alone
And yet we still go on living together alone
I was 11 months old, I was just startin' to walk
And daddy always kept, a big stick behind the door
Just in case somebody was to come in
That was drunk on moonshine
You know and daddy had to do something about it
Anyway, this woman, we called her old Aunt Boyd
She come in and she was telling mommy about her
Uh, husband, she thinks is going out with this woman in Paintsville
So she reared back with that big stick
Showing mommy how she was going
To hit this woman in the head with it
And when she went back with it, she hit me in the head
And Mommy said, I cried for 5 days
And she said I, that fifth night
I had a great big knot that show up
Right in the middle of my forehead
And, you know, the only thing I remember
I don?t remember no pain, but I just remember mommy
And daddy carrying me in this old quilt
That Mommy had made out of overhalls
The knots kept getting bigger and bigger
And she took me to the doctor
And that stuff called mesitor, something like that
Mommy said it made both ears
Flat to my face and I ain?t got very big ears
And them, told Mommy
That I would that I was going to die
And that happened like four times
So I didn?t walk till I was almost 5
It was, it was kind of a mess
Oh, I forgot about the shoes
Well, shoot, I hadn?t, I?d never had a pair of shoes
And Mommy had went, took me to the hospital
You know, to see what that was
If they couldn?t do something, but they wouldn?t keep me
Because Mommy and Daddy didn?t have no money
They just tell ?em to take me home and let me die, you know
Because there wasn?t nothing they could do about
That kind of disease, I guess
And, um, mommy told daddy, says, ?Ted, you take her
Down the street, you carry her down the street"
And said, ?Let me try this store here?
And Mommy went in and told them the story that I was dying
That she had to carry me twelve miles to town
And twelve miles back and that I had no shoes
That place, I think it was Murphy?s 5 and 10
And they?re still there in Paintsville, Kentucky
And I think that they told Mommy
That they wasn?t in business to give shoes away
Mommy told daddy, says, ?Carry Loretta on down a little farther?
Said, ?And let me stop in another store"
And Mommy went right back to the same store
When the guy?s back was turned she stole these little red shoes
And I remember on the big?old bridge that went across the river
It went way up high and was
I?ve always been scared of that bridge
That took me across the big Sandy River
Mommy pulled them out from under
That yellow jacket that she was wearing
And she was putting them red shoes on me
And I thought them was the prettiest things I ever saw in my life
And daddy started crying and I wondered why
And he said, ?Clerie, we?re not going to make it home?
And mommy put the shoes on me and daddy took off running
And run all the way ahead t?Butcher Holler with me
And Mommy never had a chance to carry me any farther
And that?s almost twelve miles that daddy run with me
But daddy knew that the cops was going to get us
He left Mommy standing and he took off in a dead run
I remember him running but I didn?t know what for
And I remember asking mommy, ?Mommy, why is Daddy running??
I remember her hollering, ?To put your little red shoes away
Honey, when you get home? Can you believe that?
So I wrote a song called ?Put My Little Red Shoes Away?
You know, they?re my little red shoes
Many heartaches have passed since we met there's a kind that a heart can't forget
And the sweet memories are too few while I'm living my lifetime for you
I'm living my life for you you're living to break me in two
I'd die while you're being untrue still I'm living my lifetime for you
[ guitar ]
If ever there should come a time when you feel that you'd like to die
Well you've made me feel that way too but I'm living my lifetime for you
I'm living my life for you...
I can see you are not happy the way you've been acting
And I think you'd like to be free
I know he's a good man but I know that you can be a whole lot happier with me
In your eyes there's a yearning and inside you're a burning
And I'd like to put out the flame
So let's get together like birds of a feather and we let the love take the blame
But right now I don't think that I can leave him for lately he's been so good to me
And there might be once more chance that things might work out
So let's wait a little longer then we'll see
But the way I can make you forget him cause I'll take you
To places that you've never been
We'll may call the night spots the dim and the bright spots
And then we'll forget where we've been
We'll walk sunny beaches and taste Georgia peaches and swing from Maine to Mexico
If you'll come along we can make life a song and you won't be tied down anymore
But still I don't think that I can leave him for lately he's been so good to me
And there might be once more chance that things might work out
So let's wait a little longer then we'll see yes let's wait a little longer then we'll see
Well this ol' world is a gettin' worse and worse every day
People livin' up above their heads and makin' bills that they can't pay
They're jealous of their neighbors and it's been like that since birth
So come on down and get your feet on the ground let's get back down to earth
Let's get back down to earth and live with the common people
Then we won't be meserable when we get old and feeble
Let's all be honest with ourselves we all know what we're worth
So come on down and get your feet on the ground let's get back down to earth
[ dobro ]
When we all come to this ol' world we didn't bring a thing
And when we all leave this ol' world we're gonna take the same
You'll be no better than I am when the man says dirt to dirt
So come on down and get your feet on the ground let's get back down to earth
Let's get back down to earth...
Come on down and get your feet on the ground let's get back down to earth
You need a change of scenery that's all I ever heard
And when you left and you said goodbye I never said a word
You're back but I don't want you back to you that might seem strange
But I ain't find what she bought so honey keep your change
Yeah honey keep your change and the trouble that she brings
You've worked real hard for what you got so honey keep your change
[ steel - ac.guitar ]
What happened to the scenery that look so good to you
Did you get hard of the change you made or did she get hard of you
You're like a travelin' salesman and I hear they're all the same
So travel right on back to her yeah honey keep your change
Yeah honey keep your change...
Yeah honey keep your change...
Yeah honey keep your change yeah honey keep your change
So he told you you're the dream that he's been searching for
And he told you that he'd never met anyone like you before
And I can hear him telling you
your lips taste just like sherry wine
But did he tell you that he's known as Johnny one time
So he told you that he'd never lead your heart astray
And he told you that he'd love you forever and a day
And I can hear him telling you that he's the shy and bashful kind
But did he tell you that he's known as Johnny one time
Did he tell you that your heart will soon become
Another trinket on his bracelets of broken hearts
Did he tell you that the morning sun will find you
Patching up your shattered pride and searching for the missing parts
Did he tell you that the special love you're savin'
Will disappear in shame and flames like mine
Did he tell you that he's known as Johnny one time
Did he tell you that your heart...
Did he tell you that your heart...
How sweet and happy seem those days of which I dream
When memory recalls them now and then
And with what rapture sweet my weary heart would beat
If I could hear my mother pray again
If I could only hear my mother pray again if I could only hear her tender voice as then
How happy I would be with who means so much to me
If I could hear my mother pray again

She used to pray that I on Jesus would rely and always walk the shining gospel way
So trusting still his love I'll seek that home above
For I shall meet my mother some glad day
Well it's time to pay the fiddler and it's sad to know we've danced it all away
But the one night's disappearing leaving nothin' but the cold hard light of day
And it's time to start erasin' all the rainbows we've been chasing in our minds
We know there's no way of making other ties on us unravel and unwind
Yes it's time to pay the fiddler and today's the day the thirsty someones do
For the rest of all my days I wonder why the maker mismatched me and you
But there's so much to consider like my man and little baby
Will need and want my love just like you do
Now it's time to pay the fiddler but before we pay the fiddler
Let's say to him please play one last final tune
[ fiddle ]
Well it's time to pay the fiddler now there's naked sorrow drippin' from my eyes
On'ry stranded and unshamed we've loved each other now we've got to leave it lie
But I can feel my hands a trembling and I search to find a handle on the door
So let's let the fiddler pull his magic bow across our heart strings just once more
Yes it's time to pay the fiddler...
It's another world when I'm with you
Roses everywhere blue skies up above everybody is in love
It's another world when I'm with you and that's where I wanna be
Never a day goes by when I'm blue there's no tears in my eyes when I'm with you
It's another world when I'm with you
Nights are made for love days are never long nothing nothing can go wrong
It's another world when I'm with you and that's where I wanna be
[ steel ]
Never a day goes by when I'm blue there's no tears in my eyes when I'm with you
It's another world when I'm with you
And it's here right now let me hold you close love you know just grows and grows
It's another world when I'm with you and that's where I wanna be
I'm gonna wipe these teardrops from my eyes there ain't no use for me to cry
And there's some things I think I need to say
I'll think about you every day every day while you're away
I'll be true to you honey while you're gone if you're not gone too long
But if you're gone for a year or two it may be too long for me to be true
I might find somebody else cause I get lonesome by myself
I'll be the truest love you've known and for a while I'll stay at home
I'll be true to you honey while you're gone if you're not gone too long
[ guitar - steel ]
Tomorrow you'll be gone I know so love me now before you go
We don't know what's farther down the road
There may be a detour sign to upset plans of yours and mine
I'll be true to you honey while you're gone if you're not gone too long
But if you're gone for a year or two...
Oh yeah if you're not gone too long
I can almost hear the stillness
As it yelds to the sound of my heart beating
And I can almost hear the echo
Of the thoughts that I know you must be thinking
You can feel my body tremble
As I wonder what this moment holds in store
And as you put my arms around me
You can tell I've never been this far before
I can hear you say you love me
As your trembling fingers touch forbidden places (pum pum pum)
But you don't know how I've waited
So long for the chance that we're finally takin' (pum pum pum)
I don't know and I don't care
What made you tell her you don't love her anymore
As I taste your tender kisses
You can tell I've never been this far before (pum pum pum)
And as you take the love I'm givin'
I can feel the tension buildin' in my mind (pum pum pum pum pum pum)
Now I wonder if tomorrow
Will you still love me like you're lovin' me tonight (pum pum pum pum pum pum)
Oh you have no way of knowin'
But tonight will only make me want you more
And I hope that you'll believe me
Cause you know I've never been this far before (pum pum pum pum pum pum)
(Pum pum pum)
I'll just call you darling and I'll call you the same
And if we ever cry out in the night we won't call each other's name
I'm afraid that I'm falling and I'm falling too
But we both belong to others we're not free
I know I'll dream about you but if you'll call my name
We'll both hurt someone who shouldn't be
So I'll just call you darling...
[ steel ]
I didn't mean for it to happen and we can't turn back time
But it just happened we can't help it now
I have no right to hurt her and he's still in love with me
Why we're the ones who broke our wedding vows
So I'll just call you darling...
I'd rather have Jesus than silver or gold I'd rather be his than have riches untold
I'd rather have Jesus than houses or land I'd rather be led by his nail pierced hands
Than to be the queen of the best domain and beheld in sin's dreads way
I'd rather have Jesus than anything this world affords today
[ steel ]
I'd rather have Jesus than men's applause I'd rather be faithful to his dear cause
I'd rather have Jesus then world wide things I'd rather be true to his holy name
Than to be the queen...
He packed his few belongings left a note and now he's gone
It's hard for me to know he's left me here so all alone
As soon as he's gone for enough and I know he's out of sight
Oh I'll go all to pieces and I'll cry
Yes I need someone to hold me when I cry
Someone who really understand the way I feel inside
When my heart breaks the tears won't stop no matter how I try
And I need someone to hold me when I cry
I don't know why he left me or what his leavin's for
I guess he didn't need me or love me anymore
He drove me into a world as dark and cold as ice
With no one here to hold me when I cry
Yes I need someone to hold me....
Hello oh hello fancy me and you the girl you have with you sure looks sweet
But she don't know I'm talking to my old used to be
And I wonder if you told her yes I wonder if you told her about me
It sure is good to see you it's been a long long time don't think I'm foolish if I cry
But I just can't hide the power of so many memories
And I wonder if you told her yes I wonder if you told her about me
But I can see she loves you and you can see it too
She's got you on her mind constantly
But she don't know the reason why you set me free
And I wonder if you told her yes I wonder if you told her about me
The party's almost over but let me say before I'd go
I'm glad at last you found your destiny
I told her that I love her and held her tenderly
And I wonder if you told her yes I wonder if you told her about me
My eyes are perfect but now I see I'm blind
Because I didn't notice all those danger signs
I tried and tried to tell you oh so many times
You should reach for your baby but I reached for the wine
Remember I told you that someday you would find
Just you and your bottle at the end of the line
You'd still be here in my arms and not just on my mind
If you'd reach for your baby like I reached for the wine
If I could reach you just one more time
I'd show you I love you much more than the wine
Many nights my pillow feels these arms of mine
For they couldn't reach you cause I reached for the wine
[ steel ]
I'm sure you'll find someone who will be kind and true
That's the things I wanted but I wanted them from you
Our love could have lasted until the end of time
If I'd reach for you baby like I reached for the wine
If I could reach you...
My arms couldn't reach you cause I reached for the wine
I chased you till you caught me you had plans of your own
It didn't come as no surpise and you knew it all alone
Now I guess you think you're a pretty cheek but I've got news for you
It don't really matter to me just who caught who
Well it was a long hard race I thought I've finally won
I thought I really played it smart but brother was I dumb
You thought you'd pull to figure out and won my heart and hand
But things were only workin' out accordin' to my plans
I chased you till you caught me...
[ guitar ]
Now you were playin' hard to get just danglin' on a string
I was only holdin' out for a pretty weddin' ring
So you went to the jewelry's to get my big surprise
But you done been there a month before and given them your size
I chased you till you caught me...
It don't really matter to me just who caught who
By your side each minute's where I wanna be
Can't get you off my mind and let it rest in peace
So every step you make I wanna make it too oh I can't keep away from you
Well I don't care where you are as long as you're with me
You're every dream I dream you're every breath I breathe
My shadow follows you loves everything you do why I can't keep away from you
Oh I can't keep away from you I couldn't if I wanted to
No matter how hard I try or what I do
You've got my heart and soul that's why I need you so
You're holding on to me I know I can't let go
But all what I go through to prove my love is true oh I can't keep away from you
[ steel ]
Baby I can't keep away from you
Oh I burnt the little roadside tavern down the only one for miles and miles around
Now it's pile of ashes on the ground
Yeah I burnt the little roadside tavern down
Oh I warned my man just stay away from that tavern or I'll burn it down someday
I think he thought it was a joke until he smelled the smoke
Then he screaned that woman finally got her way
Oh I burnt the little roadside...
[ steel ]
He acted like a man who'd lost its mind after he bought all those bottles of wine
You should have heard him talk and should as he tried to put it out
Drowin' water on the bucket at a time
Oh I burnt the little roadside...
Yes I burnt the little roadside tavern down
I've got a hundred proof heartache and a case of the blues
My baby's gone and left me I've lost all I can lose
I've got a hundred proof heartache my world keeps turnin' round
This hundred proof heartache's got me down
You waded through my tears and said goobye
You didn't seem to care how much I'd cry
You made your home the tavern down the street
And this old heart cries out with every beat
I've got a hundred proof heartache and a case of the blues
You're holdin' someone else tonight I just got the news
You left a hundred proof heartache for a love that's second hand
This hundred proof heartache I can't stand
[ piano - steel ]
I've got a hundred proof heartache my world keeps turnin' round
This hundred proof heartache's got me down
Oh Lord my God when I in all some wonder
Considered all the worlds Thy hands have made
I see the stars I hear the roaring thunder Thy art throughout the universe displayed
Then sings my soul Thy save dear God to Thee
How great Thou art how great Thou art
Then sings my soul...
[ ac.guitar ]
When Christ shall come with shouts of acclamation
To take me home what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow in humble adoration and there proclaim my God how great Thou art
Then sings my soul...
I don't know the location he's usin' he's so close and still I can't see
But I know all the heartache he's bringin' sure he's somewhere between you and me
When you say that you love me I don't doubt it
But he tells me the same things you see
All I know he's on my mind much too often cause he's somewhere between you and me
Yes he's somewhere between you and me give me time to erase his memory
Cause my heart has to be free completely and he's somewhere between you and me
[ guitar - steel ]
Yes he's somewhere...
Yes he's somewhere between you and me
I feel like a stranger in this home I share with you
I can't understand this awful change you're going through
But lately I've been watchin' you grow colder every day
And I'd rather be gone than in your way
I'd rather be gone than in your way I'd rather have someone else here in my place
And if I decide on leavin' my world will end today
But I'd rather be gone than in your way
[ piano ]
I'd rather be gone...
