Arabia Finland, Pomona Service Jam Jar

We love homemade jam and toast but it’s even better serving it with our jam jar. The patterns were designed by Raija Uosikkinen and mainly included: Luumu (Plum), Omena (Apple) and Mansikka (Strawberry). The series comprised of jugs, mugs, bowls, plates, pots, and earthenware cutting boards. Variations in patterns continued throughout the years including honey bees, blueberries, oranges, and lingonberrys. These make great little collections, however, they have been increasing in value over the months so as with anything, keep your eyes open for deals.

Yesterday there was a knock at my door and it was mr postman! We’ve been seeing a lot of each other lately – I think it’s safe to say we’re probably best friends by now (Juli edit: no, he doesn’t seem too pleased with you at the moment). My order from Amazon had finally arrived: “Danish Pepper“ by Mark Perlson. I had been holding out on the off chance the book was going to become available in Canada, but I found out the book was actually self-published and not only that, the entire design was done by the author, including all of the beautiful full-page photos.

For the longest time the office garbage can has been an 1980s Cabbage Patch Kids garbage can made out of tin (or something to that effect). Just typing this out is making me laugh. It’s a true relic from my childhood that I’ve managed to tote around from home to home over the years. You know what, I need to take a photo of it because it’s too funny to not include, and explaining it doesn’t do it justice (and it’s an excuse to use my new camera!).

Of course, I still can’t part with it so it’s serving as a recycling bin. Anyway, I was feeling like it was time for a more streamlined look but for some reason modern garbage cans tend to be expensive (Vipp anyone?) and I didn’t want to go the IKEA or Umbra route – too easy. I did a search on the internet (keyword: modern garbage can) and eventually yielded an interesting, unique and affordable product:

Designed by Chen & Karlsson, it’s a simple solution to a typical object. And the best part is that it’s only about $20 and you can find it at Swipe (a great shop dedicated to design, located in 401 Richmond – we’ll do a store watch eventually but we encourage you to check it out if you’re in the area).
