STORY:
It’s a busy day at the barracks of ‘Leo Battalion 1’ who serve with the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF).
Soldiers here have been packing gear and conducting last-minute checks on equipment for several days now, in preparation for their deployment to Somalia, where they will become the latest contingent to join the ranks of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
An advance team from the Sierra Leonean contingent will leave for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya today (April 2, 2013) from where they will make their way to their posts in southern Somalia, operating alongside AMISOM’s Kenyan contingent.
“We will be joining in the rest of the other contingents in AMISOM to ensure that we will be able to implement the African Union mandate in Somalia. The peace process is currently on enforcement, however the news is telling people that Somalia is getting back to where it was, so our main focus now is to assist in the stabilization of Somalia,” said the RSLAF’s Lt. Colonel Abubakar Conteh.
The West African troops will form AMISOM’s fifth national contingent, after Burundi, Djibouti, Kenya and Uganda.
“We are now partakers of global peace enhancement, and of course during our own ten years of civil war, people came from different countries to support our peace achievement, and now that we have the opportunity to reciprocate that particular aspect, we are very happy,” said Lt. Salieu Sankoh, referring to the international peacekeeping troops that helped end Sierra Leone’s civil conflict that lasted from 1991-2002.
“I’m happy because this shows that our country is improving, we are now members of the international community, our soldiers are being called up for peacekeeping missions, it makes me really happy,” added Ansu Kamara, who lives in the capital Freetown.
The AU Peace and Security Council authorized the integration of a contingent of RSLAF into AMISOM early last year. Since then AMISOM troops in support of the Federal Government of Somalia have pushed Al Qaeda affiliated al Shabaab terrorists from much of south-central Somalia.

Video Presentation to Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta From Anthony Amp Elmore
We produced this video for the new Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta. The Kenya President has no idea how much impact the Kenyatta name has on me and other African American people who devoted their lives to social change. In 1990 I realized a dream when I visited Kenya to premier my movie “The Contemporary Gladiator.” While in Kenya I was met with the spirit of my ancestors. Just as Dr. Martin Luther King worked for Civil Rights the spirit of my African Ancestors touched my heart and I was asked by our Ancestors to tell the African American to come home to Mother Africa.
We took groups to Kenya for over a decade. I spent my life trying to build African and American relationships. In 1992 I met Kenya President Daniel Arap Moi, President Moi called me an African Ambassador. In 1995 I married a Kenyan woman while we are no longer married we have a son who is one half Kenyan. We spent almost 20 years trying to get our formal Memphis Mayor and my friend W.W. Herenton to support African relationships. We traveled to Africa over 30 times and we entered the African import business. We learned and understand what African American desire from Africa.
Starring in 2007 Memphis Congressman Steve Cohen supported our efforts to build trade and relationships with Africa. In 2010 we met with the Embassies of Ghana, Ethiopia and Kenya. Kenya Ambassador Peter Orgego was extremely happy to see an American Congressman and an American citizen come to the Kenyan Embassy seeking to build trade relationships with Kenya. We showed the Ambassador a photograph that I took with Kenya’s Minister of Tourism Najib Balala. I explained to the Ambassador that I got Kenya honored in a celebration in Memphis and Najib Balala was our special guest. The Kenyan Ambassador after seeing the photograph of me an Najib Balala said whatever you need Kenya will help you. Congressman Cohen ran for re-election against our formal Memphis Mayor W.W. Herenton. I stood up for Congressman Cohen who had recognized our efforts to support Africa on the floor of Congress. This Congressman delivered an African style Tuxedo to the White we made for President Obama. The President sent us a thank you note.
In 2011 Kenya replaced their Ambassador. When we attempted to renew the relationship with the Kenya Embassy the New Ambassador shut the door in our face. We had spent two decades working for Africa only to be almost abused by the Kenyan Embassy. We found that in the history of African Americans no African Country has ever given African Americans a “Formal State Reception.” Our Congressman supported this idea that could benefit not only Kenya but all of African and African American people. I wrote a letter to the Ambassador Elkanah Odembo explaining that he was violated the “Spirit of Tom Mboya.” We posted a video on line trying to reach the people of Kenya. We was ashamed and heart broken by how mean we were treated more importantly our African Ancestors are calling for Africans and African Americans to unite as family. We wanted to pick up the gauntlet of Dr. Martin Luther King and Tom Mboya. This let us to tears and we went to the South African Embassy with our Idea of promoting a “Homecoming Celebration.” In February of 2013 a Kenya Pastor Okoth Otura saw on video on You Tube. The Pastor explained that the “Luo People of Kenya” believe in “Ancestral Spirits.” I explained that Tom Mboya was in my heart. The “Luo Council of Elders” supported this idea.
We looked on You Tube and found Najib Balala and Kenya’s new President Uhuru Kenyatta. We bring to the President of Kenya the historical idea of the 1st time in History African Americans are awarded a “Formal State Reception” and a trade idea. We understand the Kenyan Motto of “Harambee.” Not only do I understand the “Spirit of Tom Mboya” I understand the “Spirit of Jomo Kenyatta. We must unite as family. We bring to Kenya a plan. The African Messiah
If Martin Luther King Jr is the Messiah for all Afro-Americans & Afro-British, then Jomo Kenyatta would be the Saviour for all Kenyan descendants. He labored endlessly to unlock the right of freedom for his nation; by opposing white colonial regime, suffering in colonial detention for several years. A true Kikuyu warrior and Man of Respect - Long Live Kenyatta!
