Noah's Ark

Noah's Ark (Hebrew: תיבת נח‎; Biblical Hebrew: Tevat Noaḥ) is the vessel in the Genesis flood narrative (Genesis chapters 6–9) by which God spares Noah, his family, and a remnant of all the world's animals from the flood. According to Genesis, God gave Noah instructions for building the ark. Seven days before the deluge, God told Noah to enter the ark with his household and the animals. The story goes on to describe the ark being afloat throughout the flood and subsequent receding of the waters before it came to rest on the Mountains of Ararat. The story is repeated, with variations, in the Quran, where the ark appears as Safina Nuh (Arabic: سفينة نوح‎ "Noah's boat"). The Genesis flood narrative is similar to numerous other flood myths from a variety of cultures. The earliest known written flood myth is the Sumerian flood myth found in the Epic of Ziusudra.Searches for Noah's Ark have been made from at least the time of Eusebius (c.275–339 CE) to the present day. There is no scientific evidence for a global flood, and despite many expeditions, no evidence of the ark has been found.

In the Abrahamic religions, Noah (/ˈnoʊ.ə/), or Noé or Noach (Hebrew: נֹחַ,‎ נוֹחַ, Modern Noaẖ, Tiberian Nōăḥ; Syriac: ܢܘܚ‎ Nukh; Arabic: نُوح‎ Nūḥ; Ancient Greek: Νῶε), was the tenth and last of the pre-flood Patriarchs. The story of Noah's Ark is told in the Torah in the Genesis flood narrative. The biblical account is followed by the story of the Curse of Canaan.

Besides the Book of Genesis, Noah is also mentioned in 1st Chronicles, Tobit, Wisdom, Sirach, Isaiah, Ezekiel, the Gospel of Matthew, the Gospel of Luke, the Epistle to the Hebrews, 1st Peter and 2nd Peter. He was the subject of much elaboration in the literature of later Abrahamic religions, including the Quran (Sura 71).

Biblical account

The primary account of Noah in the Bible is in the book of Genesis.

Noah was the tenth of the pre-flood (antediluvian) Patriarchs. His father was Lamech and his mother is unknown, but is thought to be either Adah or Zillah, wives of Lamech. When Noah was five hundred years old, he begat Shem, Ham and Japheth (Genesis 5:32).

The Noah's Ark Principle (German: Das Arche Noah Prinzip) is a 1984 West German science fiction film written and directed by Roland Emmerich as his thesis at the Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film München (HFF).

While his fellow students typically raised and spent 20,000 Deutsche Mark for their final work, Emmerich managed to collect a budget of 1,200,000 DM (around US$600,000).

This film, shot in color with mono sound, received a rating of 12 in West Germany, and was sold to 20 countries. It was submitted to the 34th Berlin International Film Festival and received some acclaim for technical skill and special effects, but won no prizes.

Plot summary

The year is 1997, and World Peace seems to have come, with most classic weapons of mass destruction having been abandoned. However, orbiting the Earth there is the European/American space station FLORIDA ARKLAB, capable of controlling the weather at any location on the planet underneath. A civil project by nature, it might be abused as an offensive weapon, since it could deliver devastation to any potential adversary simply by creating natural disasters such as storms and floods. No wonder the space station soon becomes the central point in rising political tensions between East and West, next stop World War 3 (as indicated by the tagline "The end of our future has already begun"). We follow the main protagonist Billy Hayes, an astronaut aboard the station, as he wades through a plot of secrecy and sabotage trying to tell friend from foe in the process.

Journey 2010 is about having a church comprised of people who have individually decided to follow God's Will in their daily lives. INTRO Most people are on guard when they spend private face time with their Pastor. Especially if you are a bit older and have been in church a few years. You may have known a pastor who used your or a friends situation as a sermon illustration. You may have experienced the judgmental statements of a pastor. So we normally treat a visit with the pastor as an interrogation at the local police precinct. We watch what we say and what we do. We make sure everything is put up, nothing lying around that shouldn't be. Personally I would rather visit people when they are lying on a gurney waiting to be operated on. They tend to be more honest. You can tell if they are anxious. Transparent honesty is such a rare thing anymore. We wonder about our politicians, our church leaders, our teachers. We grow up learning to question, exactly because we have seen so much dishonesty I know some of you question the truth of God's will. To most everyone under the age of 35, the subject of God's Will is strange, foreign, and for the most part irrelevant. We believe that live happens. God rarely has anything to do with it. Let me assure you, whatever your concept about the importance of the will of God, what you think is not truth. We are easily deceived into believing any old lie the world or the devil wants us to believe. What matters is the Word of God! This Word is Life, not just for after you are dead, but it is Life NOW! It is health, it is forgiveness, it is peace, it is hope, it is safety, it is security, it is the most powerful force this world has ever know. I can say this because this word says that Jesus Christ is the Word. No other person in the Universe ever lived a sinless life, ever faced Satan one on one and defeated Him, ever stared death in its face and defeated it! If you fail to give your life totally to Jesus Christ, you are robbing yourself of real Life. You are robbing yourself of the very presence of God! You are robbing yourself of ever being a part in the will of God. You may think you know God, but you are believing a lie. Your mind is dark, you are confused and stumbling over the falsehoods of your mind. One day instead of waking to an eternal life of joy in the presence of God, you will wake in the agonies of Hell, screaming in torment for all eternity, ever sorrowful because you knew the truth but you rejected it. There will be no second chance. WHAT IS GOD'S WILL FOR ME? We are looking at what the will of God for me is. And number one, the will of God for you is to know Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. He doesn't want part of you, even three quarters of you. He doesn't want to be just one of your beliefs, and share space with Hinduism, Buddhism, humanism, or even you ism. He must be your GOD! Anything less and your mind is fooling you. You are lost in a lie. You will never know God's Will. This is because you put your will first. So what is the will of God for me and for you? It is to put Him First! It is to Trust completely and confidently in Him. Now I know you are thinking how much easier it would be if you could sit down at Applebee's and have a nice long lunch with Jesus. I assure you that football would not be the topic of conversation. Who is going to win the Super bowl would be the farthest thing from your mind. You would want to know what He thinks of your life, if you are going in the right direction. You would want clarity on His will for your life. You would want to know what you should be doing for Him. If life was only that simple. So many decisions we make. We make decisions and then our decisions make us.  Should I go to college? Which one? What should I major in?  Should I get married? Which one?  I can't stand my job. Should I look for another, or should I just quit and hope something pops up?  A friend of mine wants me to share a place with him. Should I? Should I live at home?  I'm getting ready to retire? Can I afford to? Where should we live?  We have two children. We’re thinking about having a third. Should we have another one? Or should we think about adopting?  I feel like God is wanting me to go into the ministry. What does He want me to do? Missions, Youth, Pastor? I told each of my children that in order for them to get married, they had to go to college. I also did not want them to go to state colleges. I also wanted them to live on campus. No state college because I wanted them to apply to colleges that were a bit more difficult to get into, so it made them work harder on their grades. Live in the dorms because I wanted them to grow up faster, face decisions on their own, what types of friends were best for them, how to manage money, how to do laundry, all the things they need to learn to live on their own. Over the last few weeks we have been discovering the value of Honor in finding God’s path for our life, in growing in faith, in seeing the Power of God in a real intimate way, and in realizing our full reward here on earth! God has been dealing with me in learning to honor our political leaders. I have been praying for our National as well as Local leaders. I have been asking God to build honor for them in my heart. In honoring my social authorities, I have been seeking to honor Jesus Christ and seeking how He would pastor our church. God brought a Debate coach into mind that I had failed to honor in high School. I had always honored and respected him until we got political. We got into a big shouting match during a class and I walked out, in fact I think we both walked out. I never went back. Well, God brought my forensics coach into my life this past week. I was able to thank her and honor her as I probably never really said so when I was in school. She is going to get Tom Cameron’s number for me so I can call him. I look forward to honoring him after I ask his forgiveness. This is what the Pathway of Blessing series is all about. It is about seeking to know God’s ways and then walking in His path. God’s path is a path of blessing. God’s path is a path of earthly rewards. But God’s pathway is found only as we honor those authorities and leaders God has placed in our life. This discourse we are going to look at the Value of Honoring our Mother and Father. In looking at honoring our Mother and Father, we will discover some amazing truth about the promises of God. We will also learn a bit about drama queens or kings and why this growing phenomenon will prevent many people from finding God’s Pathway of Blessing. "Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment with promise: "that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth." Ephesians 6:2-3 Honor for our parents is not a recommendation, it is a commandment. Keeping God’s commandments is evidence of our love for Jesus Christ. “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him." John 14:21 We also see: “This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it”. 2 John 1:6 With God, it is all about obedience to His word: “ keeping the commandments of God is what matters” 1 Corinthians 7:19 (NKJV) If you habitually ignore the commandments of God, perhaps you have never had a genuine encounter with the Holy Spirit. God says: "Therefore by their fruits you will know them." Matthew 7:20 (NKJV) If the Holy Spirit isn’t producing “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, & self-control, then you need to honest with yourself and say I’ve never been born again. The Spirit of Jesus Christ doesn’t live in me. He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. (1 Jn 2:4) If you know Jesus in a real intimate way, you will have a heart drive to follow Him. Let’s review what HONOR is: Honor: to value, to esteem, to respect, to treat favorably, to have high regard for. If we view our parents through the eyes of honor we will communicate with them in respect and love. Honor is displayed in deed, word and even thought. But all true honor originates in your heart. So if a young or old person speak in a flippant, careless or irreverent way on a regular basis toward their parents or grand parents, they are displaying outwardly their lack of true honor for their parents. Jesus told us: “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”. (Matt 12:34) You can display dishonor by your behavior, by the tone of your voice, rolling eyes, disgusted look, dragging your feet to carry out a request, complaining and so forth. I’ve mentioned before a time when I was 12 that I have never forgotten. My mom had said something I didn’t want to hear and I looked at my friend and did this: (crazy sign). My mom saw me out of the corner of her eye and she slapped me so hard I thought my head would pop off. She said don’t you ever disrespect your father like that again. I learned to respect my parents, but I’m well aware that: Dishonoring our parents has become a normal way of life in America. We have gone from "Father Knows Bes"t to Homer “Doh” Simpson! Or Psycho Dad Al Bundy. It is funny to make fun of your parents. It gets big laughs from the viewing audience, from the kids at school. It is expected. “Well Jim, that’s part of growing up. January 22, 2012- “God of Night and God of Day” Openning Address to NLWA 2012 by International President- An especially insightful description of the meaning behind his "hoodie." The following is the speech of International President Rev. Hyung Jin Moon to national leaders at the International Leadership Conference (ILC) opening plenary at the Cheon-Bok-Gung on January 22, 2012, the day before True God’s Day. I hope you like my sweatshirt. You may have seen this symbol somewhere. Because we are now chasing Father wherever he goes around the world, we basically live out of our car. We’re always packed, we’re always ready to go, whether on the boat, on the bay – wherever. It’s a very amazing experience. A couple of days ago, Father asked me to explain the markings on this sweater. As you know, this is the symbol of the Principle. And when we manifest the Principle – give-and-take action, the Four Position Foundation, the three blessings – the purpose of creation is all here. On the right arm you will see a character that says Cheon-bu, which means True Father. On the left arm you will see a character that says Cheon-mo, which means True Mother. And on the back you will see all sorts of characters written vertically. They are probably my favorite characters. The first one is the character True Father gave me, which he said was his most favorite Chinese character. It means “sincerity,” “devotion.” It means actualizing your speech or your words. The second means “love.” That is True Mother’s character. The third is “filial piety.” The fourth is “attending, serving.” The other one is “courage.” The other one is “faith,” and the other one is “eternity.” When we are attending True Parents and True Parents’ staff are around them, running around here and there, whether on the boat or on the way to different countries, I found that having these kinds of reminders help me re-center myself. Especially when I was in North Korea, where we can’t speak freely, where society is not free. We always had people monitoring us, which was very strange. But I derived a lot of strength just from looking at something as simple as the Tongil symbol. It gave me so much strength when I was in a land where I couldn’t speak. True Parents, Cheon-bu-mo-nim. The Kingdom of Heaven Is Where God Is We’re very grateful that we’re able to be with True Parents and learn from many new experiences. I really feel that being with True Parents teaches me something very important about the biblical text. When we look at the biblical presence of Christ, I see True Father. We usually imagine Christ to be of the medieval age, which is much softer, very peaceful. But if you look at Scripture, you see that Christ is very active. Of course, historically, Christ is always called a revolutionary. He’s extremely flamboyant. He’s very against the status quo, whether it is deism or Roman powers – truly a revolutionary figure. I find in attending Father and having the work of being with him wherever he goes, that this is how the apostles must have felt when they were chasing around Jesus. As you know, Jesus would suddenly say, “Today we’re going to Galilee,” or “Today we will go to Jordan,” or “Today we’re going to go to Jerusalem.” There’s no convenient, weekly plan, there’s no nice “I know what I’m going to do on Saturday and Sunday and probably Monday.” I have no idea what I will be doing tomorrow. It all depends on how Father moves, where he moves. If he flies out to New Zealand, then we’re off to New Zealand. If he goes to Siberia, we’re also off to Siberia. It’s not always peaches and coconuts. In looking at the scripture, you can see Christ also standing on the front line of the Providence, which is moving rapidly. He’s constantly on the spot, the living presence of the Providence. As you know, when Christ is asked, “Where is the Kingdom of Heaven? Where is the Kingdom of God?” we have some translations that say “God is within you.” Another translation could be, “The Kingdom of Heaven is about you,” or “We are in the midst of the Kingdom of Heaven.” I think that translation is quite interesting because it answers the question, “Where is the Kingdom of Heaven?” The Kingdom of Heaven is where Christ is. It’s very simple. That’s where the Kingdom of Heaven is. The Kingdom of Heaven is where God is, where Christ is. So if Christ is in our hearts, then that’s where the Kingdom of Heaven resides. If he’s in our thoughts and words, then those things can be of the Kingdom. For me, one of the biggest challenges when we are tailing True Parents and following them is the spiritual practice. Father doesn’t stop practicing. He doesn’t stop craving God and loving God and serving God and attending God. Just yesterday he asked me to speak at hoon-dok-hwe.
