Life in Iqaluit Nunavut
Our very last stop on our social media powered exploration of Canada and the United States took us to the remote northern territory of Nunavut in Canada. The very new territory is little known by most North Americans, so we set out to explore and share our findings for your behalf. Watch as we walk around the city of Iqaluit (Nunavut's capital city) and discover all sorts of interesting and sometimes quirky things.

Iqaluit Sealift 2012
This shows barges being unloaded at the mouth of Koojoosee Inlet in Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada. There is no deep sea water port in Iqaluit. Iqaluit has the second highest rising tide in the world so ships have to stay far out at sea when they bring the annual sealift of supplies in the short season of open water. The supplies have to be brought to shore by barge. You can see the ships in the background.

Scenes from Iqaluit, Nunavut - Icebergs in Frobisher Bay, August 2012
An ice island from Petermann Fjord in Greenland may be to blame for an ice flotilla that has spent the summer in Iqaluit's Frobisher Bay. Locals say it has been decades since there has been sea ice in the bay in August. Cognizant of rumours that polar bears like to hunt stealthily from between the bergs, Casey Lessard got a quick up-close glance at these beautiful bergs.

Airbus A380 (CYFB) Iqaluit RR Trent XWB
The A380 was in Iqaluit, Nunavut testing the Airbus A350's new Rolls Royce Trent XWB jet engine. If you look closely you will see one of the engines looks larger then the others. It spent the last few days in CYFB doing rejected takeoffs in our -30 degree climate. Iqaluit has a paved 8605' runway.
