Bembridge School 1950's Part 1 of 4
I was a boarder at Bembridge School in the Isle of Wight round 1956/57/58 -- aged 15 to 17. I had an 8mm movie camera that I had been given for my 15th birthday.
A roll of film that gave four and a half minutes of running time cost about one month's pocket money (allowance). So there was no hanging on to shots like people do today with video cameras. I used Black and White and Colour film indiscriminately. B & W was slightly cheaper. I apologize for cutting back and forth between B&W; and Colour.
I have used almost every frame I could find because I didn't want to cut out what might be the only second or two of someone. So it isn't a neatly flowing editing job. It jumps about. Sorry for that. But it is really for people who were there. I'm not sure anyone else will get much from it.
Predictably it mostly features the people who were in my circle of friends.
I have cut the film into four segments. So people who glimpse themselves in it will not have to run the whole 16 minutes each time they want to see themselves when young or show it to their grandchildren

PA28 approach, landing and taxi at Bembridge airport Runway 30
1 August 2010
A PA28-161 approaching Bembridge airport to land after a short flight from Biggin Hill. Video starts overhead Hayling Island and flies the approach to Runway 30 over Whitecliff beach.
I flew a full circuit rather than a long join for base as I hadn't visited the airport before and wanted to see it's layout whilst on downwind.
Soundtrack hasn't been touched, so you can hear the tower's communications.

Bembridge RNLI - training launch
Video taken on a training evening in Sept 2012. It was a high tide so the lifeboat launched from top of slope within the boathouse.
Great place to visit on the Isle of Wight - no charge but visitors donations always gratefully received. Wheelchair accessible building.
Alfred Albert Williams is the name of the Tamar class lifeboat.

Bembridge School in the 1950's Gymnastics.
I was incarcerated as a boarder at Bembridge School in 1955-56-57. I had an 8mm movie camera with me. In the next few weeks I'll upload a few more clips of life at Bembridge in the 1950's filmed from a boy's eye view.
This was a sports day.
It will be of interest to anybody who served time there, whether Master or Boy.
I remember hating it, but strangely enough most people on the film seem to be reasonably happy.
I am sorry about the shaky camera work (I was just a kid) and about the scratchy grain quality. It's surprising anything much survived at all, considering it was all more than fifty years ago.
If you know anyone who was there, maybe a parent or a grandparent, forward it to them.

Isle of Wight Ryde-Bembridge steam freight trip Railworks2 HD 720p
A steam-era goods trip from Ryde (Isle of Wight, England) to Bembridge, brough to life by Railworks 2. The route is the Island Line, available from uktrainsim.com. I did NOT create the route.
We join the short train at a busy Ryde St. Johns; overtaking a passenger train destined for Shanklin and Ventnor, we head south. We pass the junction with the Newport line (the present day IOW steam railway) and reach Brading. After some shunting to move the tank engine to the head of the train, we proceed along the branch to Bembridge Harbour. We then leave the wagons at the harbour and after a final reverse across the level crossing, proceed to Bembridge station yard,
Today, Ryde St Johns is still open on the rationalised electrified line, as is Brading although not as a junction station. The branch to Bembridge closed in 1953.
