Chronic Myeloid Leukemia: A Patient's Journey
Diagnosed six years earlier with chronic myelogenous leukemia, a cancer of the blood, Doug, now age 75, was told there was nothing the doctors could do for him. But he found new hope in an experimental treatment that signals the cancerous cells to stop duplicating -- effectively managing, though not curing, the disease. To learn more about CML and other blood disorders, visit ASH's patient resources webpage hematology.org This clip was excerpted from the documentary film "Blood Detectives." CaringBridge -- Testimonial for Child With Acute Myeloid Leukemia
At the age of three, Taylor was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. During this treatment, her mother made a page for Taylor on CaringBridge.org to reach out to other families experiencing AML. The CaringBridge community provided encouragement and a reminder that they are not the only ones dealing with AML. With high hopes and support from others, Taylor's family had hope for Taylor's AML treatment. Fortunately, Taylor has improved and is now enjoying her childhood years. Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) - a life threatening cancer
Download from iTunes: bit.ly Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) occurs when too many immature blood cells are produced by the bone marrow. Anemia, infection and bleeding may result and become life threatening. Guillermo Garcia-Manero, MD, professor in Leukemia at MD Anderson Cancer Center, explains the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of Acute myeloid leukemia. AML is part of MD Anderson's Moon Shots Program; is a highly-concentrated effort to rapidly and dramatically decrease suffering and death in several major cancers.

Kristen copes with Acute Myeloid Leukemia
Kristen copes with Acute Myeloid Leukemia Kristen is 18 years old and has acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Leukemia is a type of cancer that affects the body's white blood cells (WBCs). Normally, WBCs help fight infection and protect the body against disease. But in leukemia, WBCs turn cancerous and multiply when they shouldn't, resulting in too many abnormal WBCs, which then interfere with organ function. Thanks to advances in therapy and clinical trials, the outlook for kids with AML is promising. With treatment, most are cured. 2 Year Old's AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) Story
2 year old Erin won a battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia Type M7. I wrote every day during the 7 1/2 months she was receiving treatment, you can read about her story at littleairbear.blogspot.com. Making this video was emotional for me as I looked back to what our family went through. But, at the same time, it was also very soothing to my soul as I see the strength we received from God to overcome this battle. Erin is in remission and living a full happy life at home with her family after enduring 146 days at Primary Children's Medical Center.

BCEEEF 2011: Acute myeloid leukaemia: the challenges
Dr Fernando Ramos - Leon Hospital, Spain Dr Fernando Ramos discusses the difficulties treating patients with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). The most effective treatment is intensive chemotherapy, however this disease is primarily found amongst elderly patients who often cannot tolerate such intensive therapies or are not prepared to endure the resulting reduction in quality of life. Dr Ramos outlines the difficulties faced when deciding which patients are suitable for intensive chemotherapy, speaks about the beneficial effects of low dose chemotherapy in AML patients with low blast counts and considers the possibility of low toxicity targeted treatments.

Advances in myeloid disease from ASH 2012 from the Sarah Cannon Research Institute
Dr Michael Savona from the Sarah Cannon Research Institute (Nashville, TN) talks to ecancer.TV about his career and his research on oprozomib as presented at ASH 2012. Dr Savona explains that his primary research interests lie in myeloid disease, and that he is currently working on research into B-cell receptor pathway drugs, phosphoinositol 3-kinase inhibitors, syk inhibitors, epigenetic-modifying drugs, and compounds which alter the biochemistry and bioenergetics of tumor cells.
