1994-1995 Pittsburgh Penguins "A Season To Celebrate" (Part 2 of 3)
"A Season To Celebrate" is the story of the 1994-1995 Pittsburgh Penguins. Playing without Mario Lemieux and Tom Barrasso, the Pens were not expected to be the same elite team they had been in previous years. But the team finished the lockout-shortened season with the third best record in the league. They were led by the Art Ross trophy winner, Jaromir Jagr and Lady Byng winner and acting team captain, Ron Francis. Ken Wregget led the NHL with 25 wins also setting his own personal career high total. New acquisition Luc Robitaille scored his 400th goal and Joey Mullen registered his 1000th career point during the season. The Pens beat the Washington Capitals in an exciting seven game series. The Pens were down three games to one but rallied to defeat the Caps. They won game five 6-5 in overtime and clinched the series with a 3-0 shutout victory in game seven. Unfortunately, the team lost to the eventual cup champion New Jersey Devils in a quick five game series. No copyright intended. I take absolutely no credit for the content. Enjoy!

TSN: History Of The Winnipeg Jets: Part 4: Teemu Selanne Scores 76 In Rookie Season
Teemu Ilmari Selänne: Nicknamed "The Finnish Flash" (born July 3, 1970) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player and an alternate captain of the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League (NHL). He won the Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks and holds the NHL's all-time rookie goal and point scoring records (76 and 132 respectively). He was awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy with the Winnipeg Jets, the team in which Selänne was originally drafted into the NHL in the 1st round, 10th overall in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. Selänne is a ten-time NHL All-Star and a three-time top goal-scorer in the NHL. He is the all-time points leader in men's Olympic ice hockey with 37 points in 31 games.[1] He scored his 600th goal on March 21, 2010 against the Colorado Avalanche. Winnipeg Jets (1992--96)Teemu Selänne was selected by the Winnipeg Jets 10th overall in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft (the last player selected in the first round by Jets general manager John Ferguson, Sr., who was fired four months later) and was contracted by the Jets for the 1992--93 NHL season. Selänne initially asked to wear number 8, however, it was already taken by defenseman Randy Carlyle (Selänne's future coach with the Ducks) in his final playing season; thus Selänne wore number 13 instead. Selänne's first NHL goal came against Jeff Hackett of the San Jose Sharks on October 8, 1992. He went on to score an all-time rookie record of 76 goals in his rookie season (shattering the previous record of 53 set by ...

#27 Alex Kovalev Montreal Canadiens Compilation
Alexei "Alex" Vyacheslavovich Kovalev (Russian: Алексей Вячеславович Ковалёв, Aleksey Vyacheslavovich Kovalyov; born February 24, 1973, in Togliatti, USSR) is a Russian professional ice hockey right winger and alternate captain with the Montreal Canadiens of the NHL. He has also been a licensed aircraft pilot for several years. Also known as "Kovy" and "AK-27". Alexei Kovalev was drafted by the New York Rangers in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, first round, 15th overall, becoming the first Russian player to be drafted in the first round. Best known for his sleek stickhandling skills, he became an important part of the Rangers' 1994 Stanley Cup run, finishing with the third-most points for New York in the playoffs. Kovalev, Alexander Karpovtsev, Sergei Nemchinov, and Sergei Zubov were the first Russians to have their name on the Stanley Cup. During the 1994--95 NHL lockout, Alexei was playing for the team of his home town, Lada Togliatti, the Russian Champion of 1993--94 season. Kovalev scored 8 goals (and registered 8 assists) in 12 games. Kovalev occasionally stops in Tolyatti to give clinics at his old hockey school. He also participated into Lada 30th anniversary game, and scored a hat trick for the Lada veterans team. On November 25, 1998 he was traded, along with Harry York, to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Petr Nedved, Sean Pronger and Chris Tamer, with only 14 games played in the season. While only putting up 46 points in 63 games with the Penguins, he managed a strong ...

5 best hockey players
kostitsyn nHL career On May 1, 2007, Kostitsyn was signed to an amateur tryout contract with the Hamilton Bulldogs to assist the team in its playoff run. After not being inserted in the lineup, he returned home to Belarus to see his family. On May 26, Kostitsyn signed with the Montreal Canadiens for a 3 year entry level contract. He returned to be with the Hamilton team during their Calder Cup championship, although he did not see action in any games. On December 12, 2007, after leading the Hamilton Bulldogs in points since the beginning of the season, Kostitsyn was called up by the Montreal Canadiens. On December 13, he played his first career NHL game against the Philadelphia Flyers and left a good impression despite having little playing time. Sergei got his first career NHL point (an assist) against the Toronto Maple Leafs on December 15. Five days later, on December 20, Sergei got his first career NHL goal against the Washington Capitals. He had a three game point streak from December 20 to December 23. On February 3, 2008, Ryan Hollweg was assessed a five minute penalty and ejected from a game against the Montreal Canadiens after intentionally checking Kostitsyn head first into the boards. The incident occurred after Hollweg was hit with an elbow by fellow Canadien Alexei Kovalev, which was missed by referees. kovalev Alexei Kovalev was drafted by the New York Rangers in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, first round, 15th overall, becoming the first Russian player to be ...

TSN: History Of The Winnipeg Jets Part 3: Dale Hawerchuk Scores 50 Goals
Hawerchuk was a young prodigy who received his first pair of skates at age two and, according to his father, "was skating before he could walk." Beginning competitive hockey at age four, Hawerchuk demonstrated superior skills almost immediately. At a Peewee tournament in Montreal, he scored all eight goals during an 8-1 victory in the finals, smashing the long-standing record set by the legendary Guy Lafleur. By age 15, the famed Oshawa Generals offered him a tryout, though he did not make the team. In 1979, Hawerchuk was selected 6th overall by the Cornwall Royals of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, and became somewhat of a rarity; a Toronto-born player starring in the QMJHL. He recorded 103 points and was named Rookie of the Year. Hawerchuk was the playoff MVP and led the Royals to the Memorial Cup championship. In his second junior, he scored 81 goals and 183 points and led the Royals to their second consecutive Memorial Cup title. He was named a QMJHL First Team All-Star, the Canadian Major Junior Player of the Year, and Memorial Cup MVP. The Winnipeg Jets selected Hawerchuk first overall in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft, ahead of future Hall of Famers Ron Francis and Grant Fuhr. Hawerchuk immediately became Winnipeg's star attraction, leading the Jets to what was at the time the largest single season turn-around in NHL history, a 48-point improvement. He became the youngest NHL player in history to reach 100 points (a record since broken by Sidney Crosby in 2006 ...

Tikkanen HIFK:sta Jokereihin 1994 -spekulaatio
NHL:n sulkukaudella 1994-95 spekuloitiin (ja ennakoitiin vuotta 1999!) Tikin siirtoa HIFK:sta Jokeri-paitaan. During the NHL lockout season 1994-95 Esa Tikkanen, who was representing St. Louis Blues at the time, joined HIFK Helsinki and enjoyed headlines. It was understood that he received no money at all from his team. Soon after it was speculated he'd be joining his old team mate Jari Kurri in the local rivals Jokerit for that reason...
