As we bring the year to a close, we’d like to invite you to join us for a picnic lunch in the gardens in front of the Melbourne Observatory (it’s totally space related!) on Saturday December 15 from 12pm to around 3pm. Bring your own lunch or grab something from the Observatory Cafe. Click here for details and Location Map.

We’ve chosen this date because it’s the first Saturday after the anniversary of airing of the final episode of Firefly (Dec 13, 2002 in the US) and it’s cancellation.

In the spirit of Browncoats Unite (the TV special celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Firefly), we’d love you to wear something Firefly related. This could be as simple as a Firefly t-shirt or as hard-core as a Kaylee “Shindig” dress.

And if you’re a NMB Member, don’t forget to wear your dog-tags… because there’ll be a special something for you! If you’re not a member yet, head over to our Membership section and join up!

On 11/11/12, the Science Channel in the US aired “Firefly: Browncoats Unite”, an hour long special celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Firefly. The special, which was moderated by EW’s Jeff Jensen, brought together Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion, Sean Maher, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, Morena Baccarin, Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres and Jewel Staite, and producers Tim Minear and Jose Molina. Together, they recount the process of getting the show up and running, the adventures on set, the shock of cancellation, and the intense bond that the people associated with Firefly still have for one another.

Here’s a sneak peak:

While it hasn’t yet aired in Australia, thanks to the Science Channel, you can enjoy some great clips on their Firefly 10th Anniversary Special site (including some exclusives from the special that didn’t make it to air).

After analysing usage, checking with members, and evolving with the way people use the internet, we’ve decided to retire the user forums on the New Melbourne Browncoats website.

As of today, the forum will be inaccessible to visitors, and the link will be removed from the navigation bar of the website.

This website, our twitter and our Facebook will all continue to move forward with news and updates.  We are in for a great year in 2013 with a bigger and better CSTS season than ever before, and some great things in mind for our members. Stay tuned, and stay shiny!
