Thomas Bartlett (born October 13, 1981), also known as Doveman, is an American pianist, singer, and producer, best known for his work with Sufjan Stevens, Glen Hansard, The National, Sam Amidon, Nico Muhly, and The Gloaming.
Born in Vermont, Bartlett studied piano in London with Maria Curcio before moving to New York City. As a teenager, he and lifelong collaborator Sam Amidon formed the folk music band Popcorn Behavior (later known as Assembly), and released three albums.
Upon moving to New York in 2001, Bartlett soon began performing with Chocolate Genius and Elysian Fields, and also worked as Salon.com's music critic, writing first a weekly "Wednesday Morning Download", and later the daily "Audiofile" feature. In recent years, Bartlett has performed and toured extensively with artists like The National, Antony and the Johnsons, Mike Doughty, Martha Wainwright, Glen Hansard (in both The Frames and The Swell Season) and Bebel Gilberto.
The first Doveman record, "The Acrobat", 2005, was produced by Patrick Dillett, one of Bartlett's most frequent collaborators. It was followed in 2007 by "With My Left Hand I Raise the Dead," again produced by Dillett, and released by Brassland Records. In 2008 Bartlett released a self-recorded solo re-imagining of the entire Footloose soundtrack. 2009's "The Conformist," again produced by Dillett, featured members of frequent Doveman collaborators The National, as well as backing vocals by Norah Jones, Glen Hansard, Beth Orton, Martha Wainwright, and Dawn Landes.
The Best Thing may refer to:
"Best Thing" is the first single released by the band Styx from their self-titled debut album, Styx. It charted at #82 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song was also included on the original release of the band's fourth album, Man of Miracles.
Best or The Best may refer to:
The Conformist (Il conformista) is a novel by Alberto Moravia published in 1951, which details the life and desire for normalcy of a government official during Italy's fascist period. It is also known for the 1970 film adaptation by Bernardo Bertolucci.
In the prologue, the reader witnesses numerous formative events from a short period in Marcello’s childhood. In the first, Marcello coldly kills several lizards in the yard between his home and the home of his neighbor and friend, Roberto. He tries to coax Roberto into offering approval of this behavior, and when Roberto doesn’t comply, they fight and Roberto leaves. Marcello later obtains a slingshot and fires a few stones through the ivy that covers the fence around Roberto’s family’s house, only to find that he has killed their family cat instead of Roberto. Marcello is mortified not so much by his actions but by what he perceives as the abnormality of his sentiments.
Marcello also witnesses a fight between his parents that is later revealed to mark the beginning of his father’s decline into mental illness. Marcello’s mother and housemaid discover that his father has vandalized a photograph of Marcello and his mother by poking holes through their eyes and drawing streaks of blood on their faces. His father ultimately chases his mother around the house and attacks her in the bedroom, leaving Marcello torn between whether to rescue his mother or aid his father. It is revealed that Marcello’s father often physically abuses the boy.

There you go chasing clouds again
don´t you know the sky is not your friend
But then the band starts to play
They´re playing all around us but you don´t hear a
sound as you smile
Don´t stop now travel on ahead
we´ll all try to follow where you led
But as the music fades away it´s hard to remember
but it doesn´t matter now
Cause parting never ends
we just keep turning back again and again
and now the darkness has begun to live
You asked for no mercy and they had none to give
There you are the one I would protect
It´s too late the bitterness has set
And I´d cling to you still
But I don´t have the strength now
and the memories always fade too late
Clear blue skies
a sight you´ve never seen
Trust your eyes it isn´t just a dream
But then you never know the way to the bright side
but it doesn´t matter now
Caus parting never ends
We just keep turning back again and again
But now the darkness has begun to live
