http://www.euronews.com/ At least 20 people were killed by a series of car bombings in Baghdad on Monday, May 20. The eight blasts mainly targeted Shi\'ite neighbourhoods of the Iraqi capital.

In the southern city of Basra, two more car bombs left at least 14 people dead. Officials said dozens more had been injured by the blasts, which targeted a bus stop and a restaurant.

The bloodshed is linked to rising political and sectarian tension between Iraq\'s Sunni and Shia communities.

May 17 was the bloodiest day of violence in Iraq for months; at least 60 people were killed by bombings in Sunni areas in and around Baghdad.

A car bomb rips through a busy Shi\'ite market in Baghdad, killing six people as Iraq faces a second day of attacks.

Full Story:

A car bomb exploded in a busy Shi\'ite market in Sadr City, north-eastern Baghdad on Thursday killing six people, police said.

Nearby houses and shops were damaged in the blast and windows were shattered by the shockwave.

The blast was one of three to hit markets in Shi\'ite districts in the Iraqi capital on Thursday.

A second bomb exploded in another market in Sadr City while a third targeted a small market in Kamaliya district.

At least 14 people were killed in the three blasts, police and medical officials said.

Bomb attacks in Baghdad and in northern Iraq killed more than 35 people on Wednesday, following weeks of violence by Sunni Islamist insurgents determined to unleash sectarian confrontation.

Tensions between minority Sunni Muslims and the Shi\'ites are at their highest since U.S. troops pulled out in 2011, with relations coming under more pressure by the day from the largely sectarian conflict in neighbouring Syria.

Although violence is well below the height of sectarian slaughter in 2006-7, when tens of thousands were killed, Sunni Islamist insurgents now carry out attacks almost daily to try to undermine the Shi\'ite-led government.

http://www.euronews.com/ Russia is reported to have sent advanced anti-ship missiles to Syria, despite pleas from Washington and elsewhere to stop supplying President al-Assad\'s forces.

Officials in the US are quoted as saying the latest Yakhont surface-to-air missiles were delivered
recently.

Some observers think one reason Russia might supply advanced Russian weaponry would be to counter any Western intervention.

But Moscow\'s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he did not understand the fuss.

Subscribe here for the latest worldwide news http://www.youtube.com/user/MrWoodworksfilms?feature=mhee Thanks for watching A gruesome video has emerged on the Internet, showing a foreign-backed militant in Syria cutting out the heart of a Syrian soldier and biting into it. In the footage posted online on Sunday, a man wearing military gear is seen knife in hand slicing parts of a dead soldier's torso before turning to the camera and putting the heart in his mouth. "I swear we will eat from your hearts and livers...," the man says referring to the Syria government soldiers. Peter Bouckaert of the New York-based Human Rights Watch says the man has been identified as Abu Sakkar, a founder of the militant Farouq Brigade. Abu Sakkar's identity has been confirmed by militant sources in Homs and by images of him in other videos wearing the same black jacket as in the latest clip and with the same rings on his fingers. "The mutilation of the bodies of enemies is a war crime. But the even more serious issue is the very rapid descent into sectarian rhetoric and violence," Bouckaert said. He added that in the unedited version of the film, Sakkar is heard telling his men to slaughter the Syrian soldiers and take their hearts out to eat them.

In the southern city of Basra, two more car bombs left at least 14 people dead. Officials said dozens more had been injured by the blasts, which targeted a bus stop and a restaurant. The bloodshed is linked to rising political and sectarian tension between Iraq's Sunni and Shia communities. A car bomb rips through a busy Shi'ite market in Baghdad, killing six people as Iraq faces a second day of attacks. Full Story: A car bomb exploded in a busy Shi'ite market in Sadr City, north-eastern Baghdad on Thursday killing six people, police said. Nearby houses and shops were damaged in the blast and windows were shattered by the shockwave. The blast was one of three to hit markets in Shi'ite districts in the Iraqi capital on Thursday. Tensions between minority Sunni Muslims and the Shi'ites are at their highest since U.S. troops pulled out in 2011, with relations coming under more pressure by the day from the largely sectarian conflict in neighbouring Syria. Although violence is well below the height of sectarian slaughter in 2006-7, when tens of thousands were killed, Sunni Islamist insurgents now carry out attacks almost daily to try to undermine the Shi'ite-led government. http://www.euronews.com/ Russia is reported to have sent advanced anti-ship missiles to Syria, despite pleas from Washington and elsewhere to stop supplying President al-Assad's forces. Officials in the US are quoted as saying the latest Yakhont surface-to-air missiles were delivered recently. Some observers think one reason Russia might supply advanced Russian weaponry would be to counter any Western intervention. But Moscow's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he did not understand the fuss. "We haven't hidden the fact that we supplied Syria with arms as per a signed contract, neither violating any international agreements, nor violating our own laws that pertain to export control - some of the strictest in the world. And most importantly, we supply an anti-aircraft system, and it doesn't create any imbalance of power in the region, or (give the Syrian government) any kind of advantages in the fight against the opposition," he said. He spoke as the UN Secretary General was in Russia continuing to push plans for an international conference on Syria, which would include government and opposition figures. Ban Ki-moon called on Damascus to allow UN inspectors to investigate the reported used of chemical weapons. "Our team is ready at any time. Within 24 to 48 hours notice, they can immediately conduct an investigation. I again urge the Syrian authorities to be flexible and allow our teams to have an on-site investigation," he said.
