Cheap Trick - Four Letter Word
Cheap Trick - Four Letter Word
"Four Letter Word" is the closing track on their 1982 album, "One On One", produced by Roy Thomas Baker of Queen fame. It is one of their hardest albums and one that sounds closer to their earlier stuff, but played much heavier. For those of you out there who perceive the band as a ballady type, this song might surprise you: loud, pounding, heavy and with an ending that sounds more like Motörhead. Robin Zander is one of rock's most underrated singers. Enjoy and leave your comments!

Peter Straker - The Saddest Clown (Produced by Freddie Mercury)
The Saddest Clown by Peter Straker. Released on Straker's album 'This One's On Me' in 1977. Produced by Freddie Mercury and Roy Thomas Baker. Written by Mike Allison and Peter Sills. Featuring Alan Savage on backing vocals, Mike Allison on guitar, Mike Franks on guitar, Marc Fox on bass and Peter Russell Brewis on keyboards. Lyrics: Children hurry for the door While mothers pay the man what he's asking for They've all come to see the clown The finest circus ever seen has come to town He makes them laugh, he makes them sing To them this man they've waited for is everything But underneath those fancy clothes and painted smiles there is a frown The saddest clown has come to town It all began some years ago He stopped some children on his way to say hello A mother ran out screaming at the strange man Shouting let them go And yet the night before, he made them laugh and sing To them this man was everything It made him very sad and so afraid, he realised Without his guise he was anyone Though that day has gone The memory lingers on Though his smile has gone His fooling still goes on The unhappy clown Mothers hurry for the door While children turn their heads calling out for more They all want to meet the clown The finest clown that they have ever seen in town He made them laugh, he made them sing To them this man they'd come to see was everything But underneath those painted smiles, they couldn't see there was a frown The saddest clown has come to town Though that day has gone ...

"All Right Now" is a rock single by the English rock band Free seen here being performed by "Rok of Ages" with Peter Dallas on Drums and Martin Motnik on Bass. The song has recently found a home as part of the encore set for Queen + Paul Rodgers. Before "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions", it offers the fans one more chance to sing along. One of the engineers during the recordings of "All Right Now" was Roy Thomas Baker, who would later become Queen's producer (he mixed "Killer Queen", "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Don't Stop Me Now" among others). Be Bop Deluxe - Soundtrack & Swan Song (added video)
Be Bop Deluxe - Soundtrack & Swan Song (added video)
The first (album) lineup of Be Bop Deluxe was dismissed by the record company as "too much like Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel". So guitarist (pianist) & leader Bill Nelson reformed it - first as a 3-piece, with lyrical Kiwi (and Hendrix clone?) Charlie Tumahai on bass and fusion-fan Simon Fox on drums. Andy 'Ashes To Ashes' Clarke joined for the third album, 'Sunburst Finish'. Roy-Thomas Baker produced album No.2, "Futurama", in 1975 - the same time he made "A Night At The Opera" with Queen. I think this is the better album - a sort of "Axis Bold As Love" (Hendrix) for the mid-1970s. Give it a listen! Here are my two favourite tracks, edited together (for time limits) - plus my usual video treatment - all done for my favourite band of the late 1970s. RT's chapter in the 1982 BBC book "The Record Producers" mentions recording "one of the best guitarists in the world" - while stringing together tape machines for massive production effects. And, strangely, lighting fires in the studio - for "fun". Bill later blamed the camp producer's work for the low sales. I just wonder what all those millions of "Opera" fans would make of their not-so-unique idol's secret companion. This is also for the late great bassist Charlie Tumahai - whose band Healing Force was big in Australia long before Be Bop Deluxe was formed (and who helped serve 'A Slice Of Heaven' afterward).
