Ali ibn Abi Talib (/ˈɑːli, ɑːˈliː/;Arabic: علي بن أبي طالب, translit. ʿAlī bin Abī Ṭālib, Arabic pronunciation: [ʕaliː bɪn ʔabiː t̪ˤaːlɪb]; 13 Rajab, 21 BH – 21 Ramadan, 40 AH; 15 September 601 – 29 January 661) was the cousin and son-in-law of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, ruling over the Islamic caliphate from 656 to 661.
Born to Abu Talib and Fatima bint Asad, Ali was the only person born in the sacred sanctuary of the Kaaba in Mecca, the holiest place in Islam, as many sources, especially Shia ones say. Ali was the first young male who accepted Islam. After migrating to Medina, he married Muhammad's daughter Fatimah. Ali took part in the early caravan raids from Mecca and later in almost all the battles fought by the nascent Muslim community. He was appointed caliph by Muhammad's Companions (Sahaba) in 656, after caliph Uthman ibn Affan was assassinated. Ali's reign saw civil unrest and in 661, he was attacked and assassinated by a Kharijite while praying in the Great Mosque of Kufa, dying two days later.

In a medium that ostensibly belongs to writers, what creative input does the TV director get, have, or fight for? Outside of the clear task of running the physical production and shooting an episode on site — what contribution does s/he get to impart on the storytelling process? From producing directors to weekly “guests” of the production, hear what goes into balancing a show’s pre-established voice while leaving a mark in a medium driven by the script and narrative of its writers. With directors who have effortlessly slipped in and out of Marvel's pulpy vision of Hell's Kitchen, to the ambitious world of pro basketball in Atlanta, to the rapid-fire banter of the White House, we explore the evolving abilities of the TV director and discuss the balance between individuality and service to ...

As director, he created this panel specifically to discuss this year's entries into the festival. Looking over the films he and Roger Ebert selected, they noticed a trend within each of the works. They saw personal stories that often speak directly to politics and their place within. Kevin B. Lee, co-founder of DGenerate Films, discusses the role of politics and cinema as it pertains to indepedent Chinese filmmakers distributing their works in other countries. Kevin presents a weekly video essay for Keyframe and Fandor.com. Check out his recent essays at the links below. I am not a child now
I can take care of myself
I mustn't let them down now
Mustn't let them see me cry
I'm fine, I'm fine
I'm too tired to listen
I'm too old to believe
All these childish stories
There is no such thing as faith
And trust and pixie dust
I try
But it's so hard to believe
I try
But I can't see what you see
I try, I try, I try...
My whole world is changing
I don't know wherew to turn
I can't leave you waiting
But I can't stay and watch this city burn
Watch it burn
'Cause I try
But it's so hard to believe
I try
But I can't see what you see
I try, I try
I try and try to understand
The distance in between
The love I feel and the things I fear
And every single dream
I can finally see it
Now I have to believe
All those precious stories
All the worl is made of...
Faith, and trust... and pixie dust
So, I'll try
Because I finally believe
I'll try, cuz I can see what you see
I'll try, I'll try
I will try
I'll try...
To fly
