Lana Del Rey — Queen Of Disaster
You know when you can’t stop listening to a song for days on end that it drives you to the point of insanity? Thanks a lot, Lana, because you’re making me crazy with “Queen Of Disaster”. It leaked this past Friday, and it was my anthem the entire long weekend. As 60′s soul/pop is essentially my favorite genre of all time, to nail a song in this style without it sounding cheesy, forced, or just plain stupid is a great feat. Plus, my dude friends were spinning like ballerinas to it all weekend. That’s how you know you’ve got a great tune on your hands: both sexes agree that it’s grooveable.
Ladies and gentlemen, for the very first time…

Hillfolk
It has been quite a long time since I deeply listened to some Rock that really impressed me, let alone local. A close friend of mine had told me that old High School buddies from New West had released some material under the name “Hillfolk” so once I got home I found one of them on Facebook and there it was. All of the members in this band are talented musicians so I was not surprised to find myself replaying the 3 tracks they’ve put out so far. The wide range of influences that they have completely shows in each track with “Out Of Touch” being a heavier riff based rock song while “Horizons” has a more relaxed and psychedelic feel. The most recent song was the track that had me at awe, this beautifully written song starts slow but picks up heavily and leads you to an amazing guitar solo that tops it all off. These guys don’t just want you to listen but take you on a ride with several different styles of music into one song. “Progressive/Psychedelic Adventure Rock” is definitely what i’d call the material they have out now but I wouldn’t go as far as keeping them under that label. You can stream the 3 songs that Hillfolk has released so far below or download them on their Bandcamp. The band is also currently looking for a drummer so if you think you’ve got what it takes to lay it down hit em’ up!

Party Omo – Wus Good / Curious
“Wus Good / Curious” is so densely layered that it constantly keeps you coming back for more. It starts off like any good make-out session, slow and sweet, and quickly turns into something unexpected, yet completely warranted by the end.
Party Omo remains relatively anonymous on the interweb, but there is a cryptic Pinterest account as well as Twitter handle with over 3,000 followers and only four tweets. Now that’s swag.
There’s rtumours that Party Omo is fucking with the OVO gang, which seems like a pretty good fit if you consider his/her sound, marketing tactics, and anonymous persona, (ie. the Weeknd circa 2010). Keep your eyes out for more information, as we’re expecting big things from Party Omo in the coming months.

Cashmere Cat – Kiss Kiss (Pat Lok Allerg-Edit)
Cashmere Cat is, to me (and guys like RAC), one of the most exciting and unique musical acts to break through in a minute. The Norwegian’s Mirror Maru EP on Pelican Fly and Ed Banger has been championed by the likes of Diplo and Annie Mac and so I did this litle edit for dj sets in the klerb.
Robin Carnage – Baalaclava
Robin Daily is a Vancouver native but took Music Business & Production Emphasis in Nashville, Ten A Key. He made it quite clear with his first project that his sound was experimental and darker than the rest of the “Trap” that has been coming out in the past year. I personally wouldn’t completely call him “Trap” but a experimental darker southern style of it. Four months ago he released his first project “optx” which had 2 great original pieces and 3 remixes including a very interesting take on Led Zeppelin’s “No Quarter” & TI & Bun B’s “Front Back“. Today we got his next project titled “Baalaclava”, it features Lil Boosie, Missy Elliot, Plies, Young Buck & 50 Cent. The thing about this EP is all the original work with still keeping that dark & eery original touch that he’s known for. Peep the new project below and make sure to hit his Facebook up.
