Unidentified Edwardsid.wmv
Edwardsids are a group of Sand dwelling Anemones.
I`m afraid i don`t know very much about these anemones as they do
not seem to be described often.
What i can tell you is that morphologically they are Elongate with a significantly reduced
pedal disk which still operates as a working hold fast.
the outer skin of the body column is rough and lacks a easily noticeable mucous coating.
the outer skin seems to have the ability to adhere to sediment further holding it down.
The mechanism for this however eludes me.
It could ether be some type of Adhesive or a modified cnidocyte of some kind similar to the
ptychocysts found in cerianthids, but this is pure speculation.
The Animal displays easily identifiable hexacoral characteristics having two rows of Six tentacles
on the periphery of the oral disk which splay upward in a immobile fashion.
I do not know weather this is Autotrophic or Heterotrophic or even what food items it eats if at all.
I apologize if you have difficulty seeing this animal, Its Gravel camouflage is impeccable.
