Rory Best (born 15 August 1982) from Poyntzpass is an Irish rugby union footballer. He plays at the position of Hooker for Ulster and is registered for Banbridge RFC.
Best was educated at Tandragee Junior High School, Portadown College and studied Agriculture at Newcastle University where he played with the Newcastle Falcons academy. He returned home to join Belfast Harlequins in 2002 where he captained the team and gained his first Ulster contract in 2004. He made his debut for Ulster as a replacement at home to Munster in the 2005 Celtic League. He made his Ireland debut against the All-Blacks at Lansdowne Road in November 2005. He replaced his brother Simon as captain of Ulster for the 2007/08 season and continues to hold the position. He is renowned for his abilities as a scrummager. Best missed the entire 2009/10 season due to surgery on a chronic disc problem.
Best made his international debut for Ireland as a replacement against the All Blacks in November 2005 and made his first start against The Springboks in 2006. He has been involved with the national team ever since, sharing the number 2 shirt with Jerry Flannery. He was a member of the Irish teams that won the 2007 Triple Crown and was in the Irish Squad for the 2007 Rugby World Cup as well as the 2009 Six Nations championship which completed the Grand Slam. He captained the Ireland team that toured North America in 2009, while most of the country's top stars were on the British and Irish Lions team that began their tour of South Africa at the same time.
Thomas John "Tommy" Bowe (Irish: Tomás Ó Buaigh, born 22 February 1984) is an Irish rugby union footballer from County Monaghan, Ireland. He plays on the wing for the Ospreys, Ireland and the British and Irish Lions. In March 2012, Bowe confirmed that he would be returning to his native province, Ulster, for the 2012/13 season.
Tommy is an extremely proud Monaghan man and a former pupil of The Royal School, Armagh, Northern Ireland, he was a schoolboy provincial full-back, only converting to wing whilst playing for Ireland U-21s. Bowe played Gaelic football from U10 level with Emyvale, his local GAA club and he also ran for the Glaslough Harries and represented his local parish Donagh in the All-Ireland community games. He represented Monaghan at U16 and Minor level. As well as playing Gaelic football, he also played rugby with Monagahan RFC at underage levels as well as representing his primary school team. He attended the University of Ulster, Jordanstown and played for the Queens University Belfast rugby team, earning a selection to the Ireland U20 Team before transferring to Belfast Harlequins. He subsequently was capped at U21 level and was named as the Irish Rugby Union Players Association (IRUPA) ’Young Player of the Year’ in 2003.
Stephen Leigh Halfpenny (born 22 December 1988) is a Welsh international rugby union footballer who plays for the Cardiff Blues regional side.
Halfpenny is from Gorseinon, near Swansea, and is an alumnus of Pontybrenin Primary School, as well as Penyrheol Comprehensive school.
Leigh is currently studying physical geography at Aberystwyth University
A winger or alternate fullback, he was signed as a youth by the Neath Swansea Ospreys and played the 2005–2006 season with the Ospreys U18s. Halfpenny then trained with Neath RFC during the 2006–2007 season, before signing for the Cardiff Blues and making his debut against Ulster at the Ravenhill Stadium in May 2008, scoring three conversions in the 17–26 victory.
A former Wales Under 20 international, in October 2008 he was selected for the Wales national rugby union team squad for the 2008 Autumn internationals series.
He made his debut for Wales aged 19 in their first game of the autumn internationals against world champions, South Africa on 8 November 2008. He scored his first points for Wales from a penalty kick in the 15–20 loss. He went on to score his first two tries on his second cap against Canada on 14 November.
William Rory Gallagher, /ˈrɔriː ˈɡæləhər/ GAL-ə-hər; 2 March 1948 – 14 June 1995, was an Irish blues-rock multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and bandleader. Born in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, Ireland, and raised in Cork, Gallagher recorded solo albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s, after forming the band Taste during the late 1960s. A talented guitarist known for his charismatic performances and dedication to his craft, Gallagher's albums have sold in excess of 30 million copies worldwide. Gallagher received a liver transplant in 1995, but died of complications later that year in London, England at the age of 47.
Gallagher was born in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal; his father, Daniel, was employed by the Irish Electricity Supply Board, who were constructing a hydro-electric power plant on the Erne River above the town. The family moved, first to Derry City, where his younger brother Dónal was born in 1949, and then to Cork, where the two brothers were raised, and where Rory attended the North Monastery School. Their father had played the accordion and sang with the Tir Chonaill Ceile Band whilst in Donegal; their mother Monica was a singer and acted with the Abbey Players in Ballyshannon. The Theatre in Ballyshannon where Monica once acted is now called the Rory Gallagher Theatre.
Rory McIlroy, MBE (born 4 May 1989) is a Northern Irish professional golfer from Holywood in County Down. He is formerly the World Number One. On 19 June 2011 he won the U.S. Open, setting a record score of 16-under-par on his way to an eight-shot victory. He has been cited as the most exciting young prospect in golf and having the potential to become one of the highest earners in sports in terms of endorsements.
McIlroy has represented Europe, Great Britain & Ireland, and Ireland as both an amateur and a professional. He had a successful amateur career, topping the World Amateur Golf Ranking for one week as a 17-year-old in 2007. Later that year he turned professional and soon established himself on the European Tour. He had his first win on the European Tour in 2009, and on the PGA Tour in 2010. He represented Europe in the 2010 Ryder Cup.
McIlroy was born in Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland. He is the only child of Gerry and Rosie (née McDonald) McIlroy; he attended St. Patrick's Primary School and then Sullivan Upper School.
