SESAC, originally the Society of European Stage Authors & Composers, is the smallest of the three performance rights organizations in the United States. SESAC was founded in 1930, making it the second-oldest performing rights organization in the U.S. SESAC is also the fastest-growing PRO in the United States. Based in Nashville, Tennessee, SESAC deals with all aspects of the business, from creation to licensing and administration. The company also has offices in New York City, Los Angeles, London, Atlanta, and Miami.

SESAC touts its small size: : If the phrase 'quality vs. quantity' ever mattered, SESAC is the place. While SESAC is the smallest of the three U.S. performing rights organizations, size is its largest advantage. SESAC prides itself on developing individual relationships with both songwriters and publishers.

Whereas ASCAP and BMI operate on a not-for-profit basis, SESAC retains some income as profit. While ASCAP and BMI distribute all income from performance royalties to their composer and publisher affiliates (less an administrative fee), SESAC retains an undisclosed amount of performance royalty income. SESAC is also unique among the US performing rights organizations in that it does not offer open membership – one must be approved to join.

History

The Society of European Stage Authors and Composers was founded by Paul Heinecke, a German immigrant in New York. SESAC originally strove to support underrepresented European stage authors and composers with their American performance royalties, hence the original name. Heinecke continued to lead the company over the next four decades until his death in 1972.

As its original objective diminished in the 1960s, the company entered other musical genres. Since that time, the company has represented a wider range of writers and genres. SESAC's affiliates roster includes Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, Robert Johnson, Bryan-Michael Cox, Nate "Danja" Hills, Rush, Byrde, Coheed & Cambria, Young Love, The Faint, Rapture, Telekinetic Walrus and The Pride of Ions, and more.

In the 1930s SESAC helped broadcasters satisfy FCC requirements, supplying them with Gospel recordings. The business began its evolution in the 1940s and in the 1950s SESAC established its electronic transcription series.

The company moved into new headquarters in Columbus Circle in Midtown Manhattan and opened an office in Nashville, Tennessee in 1964. Six years later, the company began representing songwriters in addition to its traditional business of representing publishers. With a focus on Christian songwriters, the company was an early player in the Contemporary Christian music format. That evolution led the company to move its headquarters to Nashville in 1985.

In 1993, the company was purchased by Stephen Swid, Freddie Gershon and Ira Smith. The new owners once again shifted the company's focus toward more mainstream music and later television.

Love wrote and produced hit records such as Usher’s "There Goes My Baby" and "Hey Daddy (Daddy's Home)”, Nelly's "Just a Dream" and "Gone", Beyoncé Knowles' "Sweet Dreams". and has contributed to works which have gone on to win Grammys such as Beyoncé's 2009 Best Contemporary R&B; album ''I Am... Sasha Fierce'', Usher’s 2010 Best Contemporary R&B; album ''Raymond v Raymond'', and Usher's 2010 Best Male R&B; Vocal Performance "There Goes My Baby". In addition Love has written and produced records for Kelly Rowland, Diddy Dirty Money, Chris Brown, Alexandra Burke, Keri Hilson, Fergie, and Fantasia. Love is also the CEO of Division1, a record label which partnered with Universal Motown in 2010. Early life

Love was born in New Orleans, LA and his parents divorced at early age. As a result of the divorce Love spent his childhood growing up in two different cities, in Milwaukee, WI with his Mother and Harlem, NY with his father. Love’s mother encouraged him as a child to write poetry. Love wrote his own poems and went on to joining the African American Children’s Theater where he recited Langston Hughes and acted. Love had already been writing his own poems before he was introduced to rap in his early teens. By the end of high school Love had decided to pursue a career in rap but would go to college simultaneously, �?I’m [going] to go to school instead of just sitting on the block. If I hadn’t gone to college I would’ve been a drug dealer.’ While in college at Florida A&M; University Love stayed involved in his music by winning many rap battles and talent shows. On the weekends Love would leave for Atlanta, GA for the benefit of its studios and popular music scene. While visiting Atlanta Love met members of Jagged Edge who were an influence on Love’s songwriting development. Love eventually left college because of a paper work error made by the college’s administration’s office. Love went to live with some local Atlanta producers the Corna Boyz. This relationship provided Love the opportunity to rap on a remix the producers were creating for Usher. Usher liked Love’s work on the remix and eventually signed him to US Records/J Records. Usher requested Love compose lyrics for a song written by Just Blaze. This song eventually became “Throwback” and was featured on Usher’s diamond selling (10x platinum) ''Confessions'' album. Love next toured with Usher where he met and connected with many music industry players. Usher encouraged Love to become a songwriter and requests for Love’s compositions began coming from artists Chris Brown, Omarion, and Marques Houston.

Music career

Solo Artist

As an artist Love is both a vocalist and a rapper. Love was asked by Usher to contribute to the sound track to Usher’s film ''In The Mix''. Love contributed “Settle Down”, “Sweat” featuring Usher, and “On The Grind” featuring Juelz Santana and Paul Wall. Love recorded a solo album in 2007 titled ''The 5th Element'' but ultimately decided to focus on his songwriting and not release the recordings. Though Love may not be recording as a solo artist he still contributes his vocals and rhymes to other artists. Love has appeared as a guest artist on songs by Fat Joe, Juvenile, Rich Boy, Jamie Foxx, T.I., and his own artist, Young Chris.

Production/Songwriting

Love wrote the song “Throwback” at the request of Usher which was a part of the 2004 Triple Grammy winning album Confessions. Love also wrote “Seduction” which was a bonus track on the ''Confessions'' Special Edition release. These were the first of several collaborations between the singer and the writer/producer. In September 2007 Love wrote and produced on the platinum single “Love Like This” by singer Natasha Bedingfield featuring Sean Kingston. This song was popular with mainstream audiences reaching #11 on ''Billboard''’s Hot 100. The song was also a hit in dance clubs reaching number one on ''Billboard''’s Hot Dance Club Songs. In May 2008 “Energy” was released as Keri Hilson’s first single on her Gold album ''In a Perfect World...''. The song was co-written and co-produced by Love for the Grammy nominated artist. The song “Labels Or Love”, co-written and produced by Love and performed by Fergie was released in May of 2008. The song was featured on the deluxe version of her triple Platinum album ''The Dutchess'' and also the Gold selling soundtrack to the film ''Sex and The City''. Released in November of 2008, Beyonce’s double Platinum and 5x Grammy winning album ''I Am... Sasha Fierce'' included four songs featuring Love’s songwriting and production. Love wrote and produced on the Platinum single “Sweet Dreams” which reached #10 on ''Billboard''’s Hot 100 charts. Love’s work was also featured on “Scared of Lonely”, “Radio”, and “Save the Hero”. By the end of 2008 in December another Love co-written and co-produced track was released as a single for the Grammy nominated artist Pleasure P. “Boyfriend#2” reached #2 on ''Billboard''’s Hot R&B;/Hip-Hop songs. Love wrote and produced five songs on Mario’s ''D.N.A.'' album released in October 2009. The songs included the single “Thinkin’ About You” and “Hi”, “Ooh Baby”, “Soundtrack To My Broken Heart”, and “Get Out”. Love wrote and produced on his former mentor Usher’s ''Raymond v. Raymond'' album, released in March of 2010. The platinum and Grammy winning album featured four of Love’s compositions including two of the album’s singles. The Love co-produced and co-written single “There Goes My Baby” was a hit and stayed at number one on ''Billboard''’s Hot R&B;/Hip-Hop Songs for four weeks and earned Usher a Grammy for his performance on the song. The other single featuring Love’s writing and producing was “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home)” which rose to number two on Billboard’s Hot R&B;/Hip-hop songs. Love’s other contributions to the album included the songs “Making Love (Into the Night)” and “So Many Girls”. At the end of March 2010 Love’s penned the single “Hello Good Morning” by the group Diddy-Dirty Money was released. Diddy is one of Love’s mentors in the industry and he was honored to write for the performer/producer/mogul. The song went on to achieve Gold status and was performed by DDM and Rico Love on season nine of ''American Idol''. Nelly’s ''5.0'' album, released in November 2010 contained eight works featuring Love’s songwriting and production skills. The first single, “Just A Dream”, co-written and co-produced by Love, went platinum and landed at number three on ''Billboard''’s Hot 100 chart. Love also worked on the single “Gone” featuring Kelly Rowland, a follow-up to the 2002 Nelly hit “Dilemma” also featuring Rowland. Love’s other work on the album were on the tracks "roke", "Making Movies", "Don't It Feel Good", "K.I.S.S.", "Nothing Without Her", and "Move That Body". Love wrote, produced, and appeared as an artist on Jamie Foxx’s ''Best Night of My Life'' album released December 2010. The album’s first single “Living Better Now” features Rick Ross and was co-written and co-produced by Love. Love wrote “Freak”, which also features his appearance as an artist, and “Sex On the Beach”. Love is managed by Made Communication, Miami, FL.

Division 1

In November 2010 Love launched Division 1, a recording label in conjunction with Universal Motown. Love’s label venture has signed the artists Young Chris, Sofi Green,Cherlise and Teairra Mari to their roster. Love also has a production company of the same name to which he signed producers, Earl Hood, Eric Goudy, and Pierre Medor.

Musical Influences/Techniques

Love has cited various artists as influences such as Usher who originally signed Love, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Queen, Smokey Robinson, Elton John, and Miles Davis.

Love has explained when composing he does not write lyrics down or even spend many hours working on songs. He simply listens to a beat and then sings what comes to him. He was quoted as learning this technique from Jagged Edge. Love claims that his technique gives him the ability to write songs very quickly which affords him the opportunity to place more songs on any single album than what most writers could.

Nahuel Schajris Rodríguez (born July 19, 1974 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a naturalized Mexican singer-songwriter and pianist based in Mexico who experienced chart-topping success as part of the duo Sin Bandera until he and fellow singer-songwriter Leonel García concluded their partnership in 2007. Rodríguez began his solo career in 2009 with the release of his first full-length solo album ''Uno No Es Uno'', which was received with critical and commercial success, reaching #10 on Billboard's Latin Pop Albums chart and #27 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart.

Noel moved to Mexico in 1997. Married Karla Goudinoff on 21 April 2002, but is now divorced and recently became a Mexican citizen. He sang a quartet with Luis Fonsi on his 2008 cd "Palabras Del Silencio". This quartet also included artist David Bisbal and Aleks Syntek

In December 2008, Brian McKnight's Christmas album featured Schajris performing a verse in Spanish on the track 'Silent Night.'

He's also co-written songs for artists like Alejandro Fernandez, Yuridia, Paulina Rubio, Ednita Nazario, Fanny Lu, Etc.

Noel recently volunteered in a charity organization called Playing for Change, which accepts donations to help build music schools for underprivileged children. The group records and films musicians from across the planet and posts videos on their website to try and unite the world through music. Noel appeared singing in the upbeat Playin For Change remix of the Indian folk song 'Chanda Mama'. He is now a devotee of Sri Amma and Bhagavan. Since his experience in the Oneness Temple all of Spain and in the European countries have started to know this man. He is grateful to Amma and Bhagawan.

He considers Anandagiri from One World Academy as his longtime spiritual mentor and one of his best friends. In 1999, Noel released his first album titled "Cita en las nubes". In August 2009, Noel Schajris released his second solo album, titled "Uno no es uno".

In 2010, he co-wrote some songs for Diego Torres's studio album ''Distinto''. In March 2011, he is a judge in the television show, pequenos gigantes.

The PS22 Chorus is an elementary school chorus from Public School 22 in Graniteville, Staten Island (New York). It is composed of 60-70 fifth-graders, and is directed by Gregg Breinberg. Students are assigned to the chorus after an annual auditioning process at the beginning of each school year. PS22 is the largest elementary school in Staten Island which draws students from a wide cross section of ethnic groups and socio-economic levels. The chorus meets twice a week during school hours to practice, and performs throughout the year at school functions, local events, and on special requests. It has been featured on several major national news and music networks after its videos had gained international attention within the popular video-sharing site YouTube. As of March, 2012 the chorus’s videos have been watched more than 43,000,000 times.

History

The PS22 chorus was founded in 2000 by the school's music teacher, Gregg Breinberg, who started blogging about it in September 2006 following requests on a Tori Amos fan page, where he had shared some of his videos. Since then the chorus has become an Internet phenomenon. In 2009 ''New York'' magazine called it "the best-known elementary-school chorus on the planet".

Ray Wylie Hubbard (born 13 November 1946 in Soper, Oklahoma) is an American Texas Country singer and songwriter.

Early life

Hubbard grew up in southeastern town of Hugo, Oklahoma. His family moved to Oak Cliff in south Dallas, Texas in 1954. He attended W. H. Adamson High School with Michael Martin Murphey, who had his own band at the time. Hubbard graduated in 1965 and enrolled in college, at the University of North Texas, as an English major. He spent the summers in Red River, New Mexico playing folk music.

Career

During his time in New Mexico, Hubbard wrote "Up Against the Wall, Redneck Mother", made famous by Jerry Jeff Walker's 1973 recording. Hubbard recorded for various labels but struggled with sales; his mix of country, folk and blues elements didn’t find an audience. After leaving the scene and struggling with personal problems, he returned to recording with ''Lost Train of Thought'' in 1992 and ''Loco Gringo's Lament'' in 1994.

Today Ray Wylie Hubbard is an elder statesman of the Texas music scene. From New Braunfels, Texas, Hubbard hosts a Tuesday night radio show called "Roots & Branches". This program promotes new and established Americana artists. Like some other performers in his genre, he is perhaps as popular in Europe as in the US—Hubbard has been invited by record companies in the Netherlands to produce albums. His most recent recordings have been produced by Texas guitarist Gurf Morlix.
