Marxian economics or the Marxian school of economics refers to a school of economic thought tracing its foundations to the critique of classical political economy first expounded upon by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Marxian economics refers to several different theories and includes multiple schools of thought which are sometimes opposed to each other, and in many cases Marxian analysis is used to complement or supplement other economic approaches. Because one does not necessarily have to be politically Marxist to be economically Marxian, the two adjectives coexist in usage rather than being synonymous. They share a semantic field while also allowing connotative and denotative differences.
Marxian economics concerns itself variously with the analysis of crisis in capitalism, the role and distribution of the surplus product and surplus value in various types of economic systems, the nature and origin of economic value, the impact of class and class struggle on economic and political processes, and the process of economic evolution.
This four part course provides a working foundation in the core concepts of Marxian economic theory -- necessary and surplus labor, labor power, surplus value, exploitation, capital accumulation, distributions of the surplus, capitalist crises, and the differences between capitalist and other class structures. In addition, these core concepts will be systematically used to understand current social problems (including political and cultural as well as economic problems). The goal is to enable students to apply Marxian economics in their own efforts to analyze society and to strategize politically today. This course was taught in the Spring of 2009 at the Brecht Forum in New York, NY. Full Video: http://blip.tv/file/2676694/ Professor Wolff's RSS Feed: http://rdwolff.blip.tv/rss/flash Pro...

Professor Richard D. Wolff. is one of the world's leading Marxian economists and is a professor of economics emeritus at the University of Massachusetts, where he taught from 1973 to 2008. He is also currently currently a Visiting Professor in the Graduate Program in International Affairs of the New School University in New York. He is also a founding member of the Green Party of New Haven Connecticut, is the host of Economic Update, at WBAI in New York City, and has co-authored 13 books, most recently "Democracy at Work: A Cure for Capitalism" in 2012. Do we have true capitalism? What exactly is Marxism, and why does it exist? Most Americans have a knee-jerk reaction against Marxism, but is it fully justified to not even speak of it? What political histories and structures are compatibl...

This is the audio of Hans-Hermann Hoppe's lecture entitled "Marxist and Austrian Class Analysis" that he presented at the Mises Institute, Auburn, Alabama, October 15, 1988. Hoppe absolutely obliterates some of the most common Marxist myths such as the theory of economic exploitation. Andrew Mazzone interviews Richard D. Wolff, called “America's most prominent Marxist economist” by New York Times Magazine. Wolff analyzes the economy of the U.S.A. from a Marxist perspective. He believes that Capitalism and Russian Communism, which he calls ‘State Capitalism’, are both fatally flawed. The issue is that the elites rig Capitalism for an inevitable unequal distribution of wealth, creating unsold products, resultant from production power exceeding the purchasing power of the bulk of society. Credit is then created to fill the gap until the credit cannot be repaid. The system collapses, and the elite cause the victims of the collapse to be taxed en masse, to reset the system for another round. Wolff’s solution is to circumvent the process by causing productive corporation...

Over 2,600 people attended the event, organised by the Socialist Workers Party (SWP). Some 166 meetings took place as well as film screenings and other cultural events. Marxism 2014 began on the day of a 1.4 million-strong public sector strike. Striking workers were welcomed with cheers from the audience at the opening rally on Thursday of last week. Speakers alongside them included South African miner Makhanya Siphamandla and Hillsborough justice campaigner Sheila Coleman. Trade unionists discussed how to take the fight forward t...
Masters of Money is a 2012 British documentary series produced by the BBC. It is presented by economist Stephanie Flanders, who was then the BBC economics editor. The Open University worked in partnership with the BBC to produce the series. The series explores the lives of John Maynard Keynes, Friedrich Hayek, and Karl Marx, and their influence on modern economics. Keynes is known for Keynesian economics and as an early pioneer of macroeconomics, Hayek is part of the Austrian School of economics, and Marx is known for Communism and the theories that are collectively called Marxism. Flanders speculates how each would have reacted to the Great Recession, and what they would have proposed to resolve it. The series consists of three episodes, each an hour long. The first episode, Keynes, pre...
