Just days after Canada refused visa to an Indian trooper of Border Security Force (BSF) on the charges of involvement in human rights violations in occupied Kashmir. Another incident of denial of visa to a Lieutenant General of the Indian army by the Canadian Home office on the same grounds has come to light. A retired Lieutenant General of the Indian army, AS Bahia, who served as a member of Defence Appellate Tribunal, told media men that Canadian Home office refused to grant him a visa because he had served in the sensitive location of Jammu and Kashmir and his unit, the Rashtriya Rifles (RR), was involved in human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir. The issue first came to light when the Canadian High Commission denied visa last week to a retired Border Security Force (BSF) trooper Fateh Singh Pandher on grounds that he was associated with a notoriously violent force that indulged in human rights violations in occupied Kashmir. An on-air television sports personality, who was fired last month from Rogers Sportsnet after sending out a controversial tweet about gay marriage, plans to file a complaint with the Canadian Human Rights Commission against his former employer. Freelance broadcaster Damian Goddard was let go from Rogers Communications after he supported hockey agent Todd Reynolds' anti-gay stance on marriage on Twitter: "I completely and wholeheartedly support Todd Reynolds and his support for the traditional and true meaning of marriage," Goddard tweeted from his personal account. A few days earlier, Reynolds had sent a tweet criticizing New York Ranger forward Sean Avery, who had made a public service announcement in support of gay marriage. "Very sad to read Sean Avery's misguided support of same-gender 'marriage'. Legal or not, it will always be wrong," wrote Reynolds. Rogers, where Goddard was employed as a freelancer for the past 15 years, quickly distanced itself from the tweets and said his stance on equal marriage did not represent the views of the media giant. In a news release Thursday, Goddard said he believes he was discriminated against for standing up for the beliefs of the Catholic Church. His lawyer, William Gale, added that Goddard's two fundament rights — his freedom of speech and freedom of religion — were violated when he was fired. The special committee was created by President Bill Clinton in Executive Order 12891, issued January 15, 1994. Ruth Faden of The Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics chaired the committee. Jonathan D. Moreno was a senior staff member of the committee. He later wrote the 1999 book Undue Risk: Secret State Experiments on Humans. The thousand-page final report of the Committee was released in October 1995 at a White House ceremony (Wikipedia). Report Human Radiation Experiments Report Oct 3, 1995 -- President Clinton commented on the final report on human radiation experiments conducted by the federal government between 1944 and 1974. The government failed in its duty to tell the truth and protect citizens, he stated. The president promised compensation for the victims of these experiments. Re: These refugees are not victims, Letter June 20 Last Tuesday, Channel 4 TV (Britain) aired a documentary entitled "The Killing Fields of Sri Lanka." This morning I ran a Google search on that title and found approximately 908000 hits. I strongly suggest caution in viewing this material. As a physician in a cancer clinic, I have been well acquainted with death, but the visual evidence of murders, torture, and rape of captive Tamil men, women, and children shown in this documentary made me feel physically sick. Evidently members of the British Houses of Parliament and the United Nations reacted in a similar manner. In his letter about the proposed human smuggling bill, J. Richard Wright stated, "Let's be clear about one thing. These so-called refugees are not victims." Let him first view this documentary and the associated material, and then state plainly that, if he were a Tamil in Sri Lanka, he would never try to bribe his way out of the country, and he would never pay anyone for transport to Canada. In my opinion, those who succeeded in getting here were very lucky, and most of them should be welcomed with open arms, no matter how they got here. By the way, there is no queue that refugees can join in Sri Lanka. Refugees who are still living within the borders of Sri Lanka (those who have not yet managed to bribe their way off the island) are not allowed to apply for status at the Canadian High Commission in Colombo.
