Five members of a family in Utah who were found dead in their house on September 27 are suspected to have died from poison, according to police search warrants cited by the Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News.
Benjamin Strack, 37, and Kristi Strack, 36, were found dead in their bed, with three of their children, Benson, 14, Emery, 12, and Zion, 11, lying dead around them. Next to each body, investigators found cups containing red liquid. Some of the bodies reportedly seemed to have been positioned after they died. According to a search warrant cited by the Los Angeles Times, Kristi Strack had a red liquid coming out of her mouth.
Inside the family’s house, police found a pitcher of red juice, a purple bucket with a yellow liquid inside, a pair of slippers and a towel stained with red liquid, a bag of marijuana, sleep aid boxes and pill bottles. Empty liquid methadone bottles, 10 empty boxes of nighttime cold medicine and two boxes of allergy medicine were found in the family’s trash.
Police said they will not release any further information until next month, after the autopsies of the five family members have been concluded.
The bodies were discovered by the couple’s oldest son and his girlfriend, both of whom also lived in the house.
According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Benjamin and Kristi Strack pleaded guilty in 2008 to charges of forgery, theft, identity fraud and unlawful possession of credit cards.
Benjamin Strack also pleaded guilty to drug paraphernalia charges, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Orson Scott Card discusses the importance of creativity and how it can be fostered.
Orson Scott Card is the author of the novels Ender’s Game, Ender’s Shadow, and Speaker for the Dead, which are widely read by adults and younger readers, and are increasingly used in schools. His most recent series, the young adult Pathfinder series (Pathfinder, Ruins, Visitors) and the fantasy Mithermages series (Lost Gate, Gate Thief), are taking readers in new directions. Besides these and other science fiction novels, Orson writes contemporary fantasy (Magic Street, Enchantment, Lost Boys), biblical novels (Stone Tables, Rachel and Leah), the American frontier fantasy series The Tales of Alvin Maker (beginning with Seventh Son), poetry (An Open Book), and many plays and scripts, including his “freshened” Shakespeare scripts for Romeo & Juliet, The Taming of the Shrew and The Merchant of Venice. Orson was born in Washington and grew up in California, Arizona, and Utah. He served a mission for the LDS Church in Brazil in the early 1970s. Besides his writing, he teaches occasional classes and workshops and directs plays. He frequently teaches writing and literature courses at Southern Virginia University. Orson currently lives in Greensboro, North Carolina, with his wife, Kristine Allen Card, where his primary activities are writing a review column for the local Rhino Times and feeding birds, squirrels, chipmunks, possums and raccoons on the patio.

Join me as we discover the wonders and people of Salt Lake City in my blog, let's call it: YourHOME YourLIFESTYLE YourSTORY.
My first interview is with my neighbor and friend, Heather Hayes. Heather writes regularly for the Deseret News as an arts writer and reviewer. She also writes frequently for Wasatch Woman magazine, and has worked as a feature writer, dining reviewer and “Near and Far” section writer for Charlotte Parent magazine. Her work has also been featured in North Carolina's Our State magazine and Atlanta Parent magazine.
A native of Salt Lake City, Hayes is glad to be back in her hometown with its pristine mountains and major-league arts scene. Trained extensively in classical music and ballet, she worked as playbill editor and writer-in-residence on the staff of Ballet West for a number of years. Hayes is a guitar instructor, has sung lead in several folk/rock bands and is a member of the Salt Lake Choral Artists. She has four children, loves skiing, cooking and cheering for the University of Utah, where she graduated cum laude with a B.A. in communications and a B.S. in political science.

BYU amends its beard ban, allowing one to express religious freedom so long as one is not LDS.
A great story out of the Deseret News on mental illness and missionaries. This is an evolving area of focus for the Church, but we’re glad to see more attention given where it’s needed. Did you or anyone you know cope with mental illness while serving?
Joseph Smith and Brigham Young are named among Smithsonian’s 100 most significant Americans of all time.
Bryce Harper’s wedding was canceled. WHY? Listen in and we’ll tell you nothing.
Ordain Women publishes photos, but No Ordinances Were Carried Out in the Making of These Photos™.
The Church has a new unit – the cluster! It’s a subdivision of a ward or branch, basically, and we think it’s pretty rad.
Woman falls off zipline at bishop’s house. Woman sues bishop. Bishop’s insurance sues Church. Church tries to help all. Woman asks for SIX MILLION DOLLARS in damages. The lesson: do not have a zipline in your hard. And lesson #2: Always have waivers.
The First Presidency and Mitt Romney attend the BCS Championship in Texas. Sort of.
There’s a new cutaway model of the Washington, DC Temple, and you should all take your friends to it. We’ll have an East Coast TWiM party. Hit us up.
