Talk Overview:
Jennifer Doudna tells the story of how studying the way bacteria fight viral infection turned into a genomic engineering technology that has transformed molecular biology research. In 2013, Doudna and her colleagues developed the CRISPR-Cas9 gene expression system that, when introduced into animal cells, makes site-specific changes to intact genomes. CRISPR-Cas9 is more precise, more efficient, and less expensive than other genome editing tools and, as a result, has facilitated a wide range of studie

WOLF GREENFIELD WEBCAST: CRISPR/Cas-9 and the IP Landscape for a Revolutionary New Technology
CRISPR/Cas-9 is a new genomic editing system that has the potential to revolutionize basic biomedical research and, possibly, the treatment of genetic disease. The CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) system utilizes guide RNA as a gene-homing mechanism and a Cas-9 nuclease to cut targeted DNA. As such, it drastically reduces the time-to-results and design complexity associated with existing genomic editing tools.
Given CRISPR's simplicity and widespread applicability in biomedical research, scientists and university technology licensing officers are understandably asking about intellectual property rights and a

*We come from a perspective of supporting CRISPR and its use in research.
*This is a an exploratory thinking/sketch argument to start a dialogue. As such it is very simplistic, and we recognize that.
*This is meant for a lay audience mostly, so most of the fine-detailed science and philosophy is glossed over, this is on purpose, but it does not dilute the content.
*There is no "conspiracy to create the movie GATTICA". Many of these techniques are in their infancy, and one should be very careful to not rush to conclusions/judgements. However, it is time to begin a dia

Rewriting the Genome Using CRISPR and Synthetic Biology
The CRISPR/Cas9 system has emerged as one of the leading tools for modifying genomes of organisms ranging from E. coli to humans. Additionally, the simple gene targeting mechanism of CRISPR technology has been modified and adapted to other applications that include gene regulation, detection of intercellular trafficking, and pathogen detection. With a wealth of methods for introducing Cas9 and gRNAs into cells, it can be challenging to decide where to start. In this presentation, Dr Adam Clore describes the CRISPR mechanism and some of the most prominent uses for CRISPR, along with methods where IDT technologies can assist scientists in desig
