Thames Valley Police is appealing for information today exactly 20 years on from the murder of Nasreen Akhtar in Oxford. On the morning of Thursday 30 March 1995 Nasreen Akhtar, a mother-of-four, prepared breakfast for three of her children at their home in Cobden Crescent before they left for school. Her fourth child was visiting relatives in Pakistan. Nasreen walked her children to St Ebbes School and, on her way home, at about 9.05am she visited a friend in Marlborough Road, Oxford. She stayed there for about 10 minutes before returning home. At about 10.25am a refuse collector went into the rear garden of her home to collect the dustbin and saw the back door open. At about midday a woman who was visiting Mrs Akhtar, knocked on her front door but did not receive a reply. At 3.05pm on the same day two of Mrs Akhtar’s children who were aged nine and eight, returned home to find their mother’s body in the living room. An ambulance attended and Mrs Akhtar was declared deceased at the scene. A video recorder was missing from the living room however the rest of the house remained undisturbed. A post mortem examination concluded the cause of death to be due to strangulation. A man was arrested and charged on 20 April 1995 on suspicion of Mrs Akhtar’s murder. He was acquitted of the offence at a trial. No one has been convicted of the crime. Peter Beirne, head of Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Investigation Review Team, said: “Today marks the twentieth anniversary of Mrs Akhtar’s death at her home in Oxford. “Despite a thorough and professional investigation, the offence remains undetected. “Nasreen’s death left four children without a mother, two of whom found her body in their family home, and her death took a young woman from all of her family and friends. “We are now in the process of starting a review in to the case and today I ask that anyone who has any information about Nasreen’s murder to come forward. We are approaching this enquiry with an open mind. “Allegiances may have changed over time and, with the passage of time, those who found it difficult to talk to the police at the time may now be able to do so. “If you know something which could assist the investigation and could help to bring some closure to Nasreen’s family, please come forward now and speak to the police.” If you have any information which could assist the investigation, please contact the Major Crime Investigation Review Team via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101. If you do not want to speak directly to the police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
The unlovely multi-storey car park has been the main in-town parking area since it was built in 1972. A major redevelopment is now taking place to create 70 new shops including John Lewis. 127 new homes a new 1,335-space car park. and so on. As any historical value of the area had already been lost in 1972 there has been little opposition although there was some in 2008 (Oxford Against Westgate Expansion). There is a temporary 2 storey car park next to the Oxpens Ice Rink. St Ebbes I believe a poor working class area . The Market in Oxpens closed in 1979. Along with the redevelopments of St Frideswide Square Oxford motorists are due for months of hardship.

You can buy this DVD at www.biblicalframeworks.com 2 Timothy is probably the very last letter that the great apostle Paul ever wrote. Having walked the Way of Jesus for so long, what final wisdom would he have for a young man who still had far to walk? In our day we see the desperate need for Bible teachers in every local church. We have seen the terrible devastation brought on the Church by false teachers, self-serving personalities, status-seeking careerists and those who do little more than declare their own religious opinions or home-spun wisdom from the pulpit. In this final letter from Paul we see how his greatest concern for the health and growth of the future Church was self-sacrificial Bible teachers who were determined to speak and live only as God has spoken. Rev Vaughan Roberts is the Rector of St Ebbes Church in Oxford. He is a respected Bible teacher and is involved in evangelism and church planting. Vaughan is also the President of the Proclamation Trust, training preachers and leaders how to handle the Bible faithfully. He is the author of several books, including Turning Points and God's Big Picture.

St Ebbes is a district of central Oxford, England, southwest of Carfax. St Ebbes Street runs south from the western end of Queen Street.
The area takes its name from the parish church of St Ebbe's, dedicated to Saint Æbbe the Elder. The name was first recorded in about 1005, when the church and other nearby property was granted to Eynsham Abbey. The parish extended to the River Thames. By 1279 the area was known for property inhabited by the poorer townsfolk, and remained so until the middle of the 20th century.
In 1818 gas works were built on the north bank of the River Thames in St Ebbes, to supply the city with gas. St Ebbes expanded significantly in the 19th century, and by 1882 there was no room to expand the gas works, and new gasholders had to be built on the south bank of the river. A railway bridge (the Gasworks Bridge) was built across the river to connect the gas works to the Great Western Railway line. The gas works were closed in 1960.
Do I have to do sit-ups, if I want to be a rock star?
Do I have to make millions, if I want to be free?
Should I come with a cliché?
Should I hide in a big car?
You say the money doesn't matter.
Well, let's check and see.
Cause you look sexy.
You look fine.
How I wish that you were mine.
You look sexy.
You look hot.
Is that really all you got?
In the end, you pretend, you're my friend but you're not.
Tell me that I'm going to be the king of the world.
I know it's never going to happen but if you could be mine.
I will wake in the morning and I'll look at your beautiful face.
I know it's going to be a wonderful day.
Did you want to be a hooker?
Or did you want to be a model?
Well, did you want to be famous?
Did you want to be free?
I can see that you're a looker, but keep your love in a bottle.
And your skimpy clothes will go a long, long way with me.
You look sexy.
You look fine.
How I wish that you were mine.
You look sexy.
You look hot.
Is that really all you got?
In the end, you pretend, cause I don't want to stop.
Chorus
Through the smog the sky is blue and angels all were sinners too.
And baby I'll be good to you.
If you tell me what you want I'm going to do that to you.
Chorus
It's going to be a wonderful day.
Look at your beautiful face.
Tell me - do you believe in fate? Do you believe that we each have a fee to pay And a leaving date with no hope to deviate That our breathing rate ceases when we reach this age? Where do we go when we leave this place? Is it nowhere where nobody can see your face? There's no need to kneel on your knees and pray Cos seasons change so it may be today
Looking back on the one life I've had on this Earth This planet, this world, I sit back and I ponder I have become fond of the fact I've lasted this long Though in the past I've done wrong and my battery's gone Will things be any different here after I'm gone? Will anybody listen to my tracks or my songs? You're asking the wrong chap I know as much as you So I'm just confusing matters but it has to be done It's a factor in all the planet's mass populace That we're asking for knowledge but lack what we want There's certain facts that we won't actually know We lack the composure to relax and just focus on absolute calm And that can do harm so we have to succumb To the fact that after we're gone we're transmitted back to the cosmos And after the storm the pattern goes on So you have to be strong, cos that's where you belong
But I want you to see what it's like to be me And I want you to remember me
I want to be remembered when I enter into heaven The day I die then greater than September the eleventh But then again when in the history of men Has there ever been an event that we never will forget Eventually everything tends to irrelevance 'Til we're left with an ebb that can never be filled Everything built inevitably will Descend into a stillness until the end of the world
Seasons will change Empires will fall
