Construction Management Professionals & Graduates: Advantages of Advanced Engineering Degree
Industry professionals in the construction management field speak to the value of the Construction Management graduate program at Vanderbilt University School of Engineering. In this video, construction industry professionals Walter Jones (SKANSKA), Katy Sheesley (Hoar Construction), Chris Pritchard (HCA - Hospital Corporation of America), and Thomas O'Dell (LifePoint Hospitals) describe the value of the advanced degree and the strengths of the program.
These individuals also represent the program's strength in the area of Healthcare Construction. The Construction Management program at Vanderbilt presents an annual Healthcare Construction conference that capitalizes on the program's ties to healthcare construction industry, and its solid relationships in the industry.
Vanderbilt School of Engineering offers an advanced degree program in Civil Engineering (M.Eng) with concentration in Construction Management. The program, under the direction of Dr. Sanjiv Gokhale, currently boasts 100% internships and professional placement.
The individuals in this video describe the following attributes of the construction management program:
- Diversity of students with a wide range of life, career and educational experiences
- Construction management as a fast-track to career transitions
- Completion of B.E. and M.Eng. Degrees in Civil Engineering in only 5 years
- LEED Certification as part of the M.Eng. Program (leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)

Built on the fundamentals of civil engineering, this program combines a balance of the latest developments in construction technologies, advanced engineering design, and management principles with other disciplines that are required in order to understand and solve the broad range of challenges confronting the construction industry. The Construction Industry Institute (CII) has recognized Vanderbilt's program for its outstanding curriculum and delivery of current research and best practices.
A majority of the Construction Management classes are offered during the late afternoon and early evening to allow students to work part-time or even full-time while also pursuing the M.Eng. degree. In fact, students are encouraged to work or intern with local companies to gain work experience prior to graduation.
Areas of Emphasis, M.Eng. Construction Management:
- Healthcare Construction
- Project Delivery Systems
- Project Life-cycle Analysis
- Project Schedule Reduction Techniques
- Construction Contracts
- Underground / Trenchless Construction
Graduates of the Construction Management program are highly sought after and find a wide range of employment opportunities in design, consulting, and construction in the both the private and public sectors.
Throughout the program, the interrelationship of planning, design, and construction is continually stressed. Interaction with the construction industry is enhanced through Internship opportunities, project case study analysis, and invited guest lecturers of national and international prominence.

Aiming to be the safest hospital in America: UMHS wins award for quality & safety of our care
For years, the leaders and staff of the U-M Health System have worked to make our care the best and safest in America. That effort has been recognized by the prestigious Leapfrog Group, which has named UMHS among the Top Hospitals in the U.S. for the third year in a row. The Leapfrog honor, which is based on a broad range of criteria, only goes to the top 5 to 6 percent of hospitals. UMHS Chief Medical Officer Darrell "Skip" Campbell, Jr., M.D., discusses the award and what it took to earn it.

Fuck Mitt Romney & The Magic Underwear He Rode In On
All this talk in the latest news cycle about Mitt Romney's tax returns. How about his investment records, particularly when governor of Massachusetts when he forced RomneyCare down the throats of Massachusetts residents. Bain Capital, as share holder of Hospital Corporation of America made millions in profits via insurance, medicare and medicaid payments after the passage of RomneyCare. They also likely earned additional profits via investment returns of insurance companies invested in. It is my opinion that Mitt Romney's motivation for being president is PERSONAL PROFITS AND FINANCIAL GAINS. He does not give one flying fuck about YOU nor America. He is a self serving PRICK!

A Jackson County judge awards the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City $162 million in a judgment against the owner of the largest hospital system in our metro. The foundation sued HCA which purchased all of the former Health Midwest hospitals alleging it had not delivered on promises for charitable care and capital improvements at the facilities, which include Overland Park Regional, Menorah and Research Medical Center's. It was a massive ruling that captured national attention, including a story in the New York Times. KCPT special correspondent Sam Zeff poured through the 140-page court ruling this week.
