Gemeinde
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gemeinde (plural: Gemeinden) is a German word for borough, commune, community, township, municipality, or in religious contexts, a parish or congregation (sometimes, Kirchengemeinde). [1]
Gemeinde also means, approximately, the parish or the community. This term in its theological usage, means more than just a community or parish. It has no English equivalent except among Mormons, who call it a ward. It encompasses the meaning of parish assembly (as a group entity) but also the congregation as a koinonia (Greek) or fellowship of believers.
