French Polynesia Australs islands
The Australs archipelago are composed of five main high islands with a typical uneven ground made of old volcanos and mountains. With few inhabitants, around 6000, these islands have small villages by the sea with natural and generous surroundings. The "fiu" ,the local nonchalance, pace's the daily life of the villagers. There are numerous activities in the Southern islands : agriculture, basket making, fishing... Each inhabitant has preserved the know-how and traditions of their ancestors, in order to use at best the resources of their islands.

Gil Evrard presents 3DExperience Landing in Rurutu.m2t
During my stay in French Polynesia, I had the tremendous pleasure to join a flying trip to the Austral islands, and make a stop in Rurutu. The welcome was incredible the people so nice. Good experience for a reporter. This clip is now available in 3D in my new movie " From Scratchs Coming Out of The Blue"

Timelapse of South Georgia Island Austral Summer 2010-11
Images captured from www.sgisland.gs every 15 mins Specific Timelapse Range: 12/21/10-03/22/11 From the originating website: This webcam is situated in Larsen House at King Edward Point. The view is south east across Cumberland Bay East to Greene Peninsula and the mountains beyond. Dartmouth Point is in the middle ground and Susa Point in the foreground. The steps on the right lead into Larsen House. Tussac grass is growing immediately in front of the steps. From October to March elephant seals, penguins and fur seals will be on the beach in front of the web cam. The Sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia is "breathtaking beautiful and a sight on an early spring day not easily forgotten" (Niall Ranken 1946). It is long and narrow, shaped like a huge, curved, fractured and savaged whale bone, some 170 kilometres long and varying from 2 to 40 kilometres wide. Two mountain ranges (Allardyce and Salvesen) provide its spine, rising to 2934 metres at Mount Paget's peak (Eleven peaks exceed 2000metres). Huge glaciers, ice caps and snowfields cover about 75% of the island in the austral summer (November to January); in winter (July to September) a snow blanket reaches the sea. The island then drops some 4000 metres to the sea floor.

HO'OMAKA 'ANA HAWAI'IAN RHAPSODY IN THREE MOVEMENTS by MARK DONNELLY MOVEMENT 1 • NA'PALI Early explorers from the Austral Islands in French Polynesia set out on a journey north. They follow a long chain of small Pacific islands starting with the Cook Islands of Rarotonga and Aitutaki. As the voyage continues northward, they encounter the pristine coral reefs of the Line Islands. The final leg of the long excursion sets the longboats on the beaches beneath the Na'Pali cliffs of Kauai. OVERVIEW The inspiration for this piece came from a memorable evening listening to the stories of "Aunty" Louise Marston at Tahiti Nui in the Kauai north shore town of Hanalei. Louise was a native of Tubuai (Austral Islands, French Polynesia) just south of Tahiti, and a descendant of Tahitian Royalty in the lineage of King Tomatoa. Lt. Colonel Bruce T. Marston, a US Air Force pilot, met Louise while stationed in Tahiti in the 1960's and they were soon married. Louise was well known on Kauai as being the embodiment of Hawai'ian "aloha spirit". For several hours, over coconut cream pie, I listened to stories of her ancestors' first arrival in Tahitian long boats on the shores of what is now Hanalei. She painted a captivating picture with her words that have remained with me ever since. In 2003 I returned to Kauai hoping to see Louise again. Unfortunately, she passed away two weeks prior to my arrival. Clearly, this enchanting woman was beloved. I dedicate this work to the memory of "Aunty"Louise.

Gil Evrard presents Landing in Moorea.wmv
While my stay in French Polynesia, I did travel a lot and visit several islands from the Marquises to the Tuamotu, and from the Austral Islands to the Societes Island. Some sites are really exceptionals, and the landing is sometimes very exciting. Those rares moments are on tape and will be edited in Hugh Definition and some in 3D.

Diving in Tahiti, by Tahiti Tourism | Tahiti.com
Around all the islands of Tahiti, dramatic views continue below the water. Divers are amazed by the density of large marine life. Regular encounters include manta rays whose gigantic wingspan eclipses the passing diver; schools of dolphin dancing along the surf; sharks seemingly at every turn; and, in the Austral Islands, humpback whales thrill the lucky spectators in their annual parade.

Easter Island - Rapa Nui
Easter Island 2010. You can see more at gotoslawek.org The name "Easter Island" was given by the island's first recorded European visitor, the Dutch explorer Jacob Roggeveen, who encountered it on Easter Sunday 1722, while searching for Davis or David's island and named it Paasch-Eyland (18th century Dutch for "Easter Island").[5] The island's official Spanish name, Isla de Pascua, also means "Easter Island". The current Polynesian name of the island, "Rapa Nui" or "Big Rapa", was coined following the slave raids carried out in Rapa Nui in the early 1860s because of Easter Island's geographic resemblance to the island of Rapa in the Bass Islands of the Austral Islands group.[6] However, Thor Heyerdahl has argued that the naming would have been the opposite, Rapa being the original name of Easter Island, and Rapa Iti was named by its refugees.[7] There are several hypotheses about the "original" Polynesian name for Easter Island, including Te pito o te henua, meaning "The Navel of the land" or "The ends of the land". Pito means both navel and umbilical cord which was considered to be the link between the world of the living (kainga) and the spiritworld Po, lying in the depths of the ocean further East. Since Easter Island is the easternmost Polynesian island it's possible the name refers to it being the "ends" of the world of the living; however after Alphonse Pinart translated it as "the Navel of the World" in his Voyage a l'Ile de Paques published in 1877, this second ...
