A ever increasing storm system in the Bay of Bengal is posing a serious threat for coastal areas in Bangladesh, Burma and Eastern India. Right now radial outflow around the storm is supporting the storms systems developing and a reduction in vertical wind shear over the next 24hrs will further support developing. The IMD current forecast anticipates the storm to develop in to a severe Tropical Cyclone by early next week. If the current outlook from the IMD and JTWC was to follow through then the coastal areas in Bangledesh which has been already receiving large amounts of rain would be at a serious flood risk.

We will continue to track this storm through the coming days so stay with us here at westpacwx.com.

Nelson Mandela has made his first television appearance in almost a year.

The anti-apartheid hero looked thin and frail in his Johannesburg home, where he has been resting after a bout of pneumonia.

The veteran leader stared mostly straight ahead, his face showing little expression in the footage which shows a visit from President Jacob Zuma and other officials.

The footage was aired by state broadcaster SABC.

The ruling African National Congress said after the visit on Monday that the 94-year-old was in good health and good spirits.

It was the first update on his condition since he was discharged from hospital in early April.

The footage showed Mr Mandela sitting next to Mr Zuma with a pillow behind his head and his legs propped up under a blanket.

An ANC spokesman said: \

Syria claims Israel has carried out a deadly bombing raid on its territory, destroying a military research centre near Damascus. It denies claims the attack targeted a weapons convoy near the Lebanese border.

It\'s the first time in decades that Israel has launched an attack on another state, NOT in response to military action. Israel and most Western powers are keeping silent on the incident, which has sparked condemnation from Russia.

The Arab League has described Israel\'s strike on Syria as flagrant aggression and a glaring violation of the country\'s sovereignty. Abayomi Azikiwe, Editor of Pan-African News Wire, says the attack on Syria is all part of a plan to bring down the Assad government.

Nelson Mandela Seen On TV For First Time In A Year

  • Updated: 29 Apr 2013
An ANC spokesman said: "After receiving a briefing from the medical team, the national officials are satisfied that President Mandela is in good health and is receiving the very best medical care." Mr Zuma and the other leaders had found Mr Mandela "in good shape and in good spirits", the party added in a statement. Mr Mandela spent more than a week in hospital being treated for a recurring lung infection identified as pneumonia - the third health scare in four months for the Nobel Peace Prize laureate. He stepped down as president in 1999 and has not been politically active for about a decade. But he is still revered at home and abroad for leading the long campaign against apartheid and then championing racial reconciliation. He last appeared in Britain in 2008 when he met the Queen, politicians and celebrities. Mr Mandela's lung problems date from his time as a political prisoner when he contracted tuberculosis. He spent 27 years on Robben Island and in other jails for trying to oust the apartheid-era white-minority government. Television stations showed still images of Mr Mandela smiling broadly during a visit by Hillary Clinton to his country home in August. The last video footage of Mr Mandela showed his birthday celebrations in July last year. 納爾遜·曼德拉第一次在電視上看到的一年 Nelson Mandela Set på TV for første gang i et år Nelson Mandela Seen On TV voor de eerste keer in een jaar Nelson Mandela nähty televisiossa ensimmäistä kertaa vuosi Nelson Mandela Vu à la TV Pour la première fois en un an Νέλσον Μαντέλα δει στην τηλεόραση για πρώτη φορά σε ένα χρόνο Nelson Mandela visto in TV per la prima volta in un anno ネルソン·マンデラは年ぶりにテレビで見られる 넬슨 만델라는 올해 처음으로 TV에서 본 Nelson Mandela sett på TV For første gang på et år Nelson Mandela Seen On TV po raz pierwszy w roku Nelson Mandela visto na TV pela primeira vez em um ano Nelson Mandela văzut la televizor pentru prima dată într-un an Нельсон Мандела Seen On TV впервые за год Nelson Mandela lo visto en la TV por primera vez en un año Nelson Mandela sett på TV för första gången på ett år

Syria claims Israel has carried out a deadly bombing raid on its territory, destroying a military research centre near Damascus. It denies claims the attack targeted a weapons convoy near the Lebanese border. It's the first time in decades that Israel has launched an attack on another state, NOT in response to military action. Israel and most Western powers are keeping silent on the incident, which has sparked condemnation from Russia. The Arab League has described Israel's strike on Syria as flagrant aggression and a glaring violation of the country's sovereignty. Abayomi Azikiwe, Editor of Pan-African News Wire, says the attack on Syria is all part of a plan to bring down the Assad government. "The Nakba did not begin in 1948. Its origins lie over two centuries ago...." So begins this four-part series on the 'nakba', meaning the 'catastrophe', about the history of the Palestinian exodus that led to the first Arab-Israeli War in 1948 and the establishment of the state of Israel. This sweeping history starts back in 1799 with Napoleon's attempted advance into Palestine to check British expansion and his appeal to the Jews of the world to reclaim their land in league with France. The narrative moves through the 19th century and into the 20th century with the British Mandate in Palestine and comes right up to date in the 21st century and the ongoing 'nakba' on the ground. Arab, Israeli and Western intellectuals, historians and eye-witnesses provide the central narrative which is accompanied by archive material and documents, many only recently released for the first time.

Goodluck Jonathan, the Nigerian president, has imposed a "state of emergency" in three states in an attempt to curb the increasingly violent attacks by armed group Boko Haram, saying the level of violence called for "extraordinary measures". The decision comes after a spate of attacks on security forces and government targets by armed group Boko Haram in its northeast stronghold this month. Al Jazeera's Yvonne Ndege reports from Nigeria.

Cameron says no to EU budget plans

The Prime Minister David Cameron says there cannot be a "deal at any cost" as EU budget talks collapse in Brussels. Talks on a new European Union budget have collapsed after David Cameron won German support in a row with France about his demands for more cuts in spending. The Prime Minister accused Brussels of 'living in a parallel universe' and said there could not be a 'deal at any cost.' Speaking at the end of the failed summit Mr Cameron said: "We're not going to be tough on budgets at home just to come here and sign up to an increase. "Frankly the deal on the table was just not good enough. It wasn't good enough for Britain and neither was it good enough for a number of countries. "In the UK we are cutting admin budgets by as much as a third, civil service staff by 10 per cent in two years. None of this has been easy. Meanwhile Brussels continues to exist as if it is in a parallel universe." The Prime Minister blamed the European Commission for the break-down, accusing the commission of "insulting" taxpayers by refusing to accept cuts in its budget or make reductions in staff pay or perks. Mr Cameron strongly criticised the commission and its president, Jose Manuel Barroso, accusing them of refusing all moves to cut administrative spending "The EU institutions simply have got to adjust to the real world," the Prime Minister said. "The commission did not offer a single euro in savings, not one euro -- insulting to European taxpayers. I do not think that is good enough." Mr Cameron complained that 200 staff earned more than he did. He called for a 10 per cent cut to the overall pay bill in Brussels.
