They were first described by Rev. John Harris in 1696 and other forms were described by Anton van Leeuwenhoek in 1703.[1] Most rotifers are around 0.1-0.5 mm long (although their size can range from 50μm to over 2 millimeters) [2], and are common in freshwater environments throughout the world with a few saltwater species. Some rotifers are free swimming and truly planktonic, others move by inchworming along the substrate, and some are sessile, living inside tubes or gelatinous holdfasts that are attached to a substrate. About 25 species are colonial (eg, Sinantherina semibullata), either sessile or planktonic. ChronoZoom was first demonstrated at the 97th Annual Faculty Research Lecture series at the University of California, Berkeley on April 29th, 2010. ChronoZoom was originally developed as a term project by student Roland Saekow in the Big History course taught by professor Walter Alvarez. Japan Marine Club ® 【ぜひ HDでご視聴ください】 2012.5.4 山口県長門市 青海島 水温16℃ 水深15m このメジャー?バーコード?虎のしっぽ?のような奇妙な海洋生物はヒモムシと呼ばれ、海底にたまった有機物やコケを食べるナマコなどと似た食性の動物です。 分類的には界 : 動物界 Animalia 亜界 : 真正後生動物亜界 Eumetazoa 上門 : 冠輪動物上門 Lophotrochozoa 門 : 紐形動物門 Nemertea となります。 まだまだ謎の多い生物ですが、最近の研究で遺伝子から環形動物(ミミズ・ゴカ・、ヒルなど)と軟体動物(ウミウシ・クリオネ・タコなど)に近いのではないかと考えられています。 青海島に棲むこのヒモムシはこんもりと盛り上がった巣穴を中心に周囲の数え切れないほどの穴に出入りして生活し、長い固体は10mを超えるほどです。
