Byrds Gene Clark home video of a great interview
In 1988, I spent a day riding around in a limo with the late Gene Clark (Byrds), Randy Meisner (The Eagles) and Rick Roberts (Firefall)... taking them around to radio interviews to promote an upcoming concert. With their consent, I video-taped most of the day with my home camcorder. This priceless video has been sitting in a box since then, only seen by a couple of my friends. Thanks to Youtube... I can now share it with anyone who wants to enjoy it!

Gene Clark - No Other
No Other lyrics All alone you say That you don`t want no other So the Lord is love And love is like no other If the falling tide Can turn and then recover All alone we must Be part of one another All alone you say The power is perfection Is the power peace Or merely the connenction To the God of Love That powers the protection From the tide of life That flows in each direction When the stream of changing days Turns around in so many ways Then the pilot of the mind Must find the right direction

GENE CLARK & DOUG DILLARD why not your baby (1968)
album : The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard & Clark Arranged by VAN DYKE PARKS The banjo is present in the background, the rhythm section is pure pop/rock, not a million miles away from The Byrds. The vocals are heavenly and the lyrics clever and charming. Its a pop song that really should have been a hit - someone should cover it and turn it into one. A wonderfully dreamy song. Gene Clark was the greatest underrated singer/songwriter to emerge from the '60s rock explosion, and deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Neil Young. This album, his debut as a duo with virtuoso banjoist/guitarist Doug Dillard, is perhaps his most brilliant recording. Out of the ashes of the Byrds and a brilliant false start of a solo career (the excellent Echoes album), the 1968 Dillard & Clark project found Clark collecting some of his finest material (basically the entire album) and putting it in the familiar context of bluegrass and country, a good year before these elements became vogue in the pop world. But Gene Clark was always ahead of his time.

Silver Raven (Acoustic Version) by Gene Clark
Silver Raven (acoustic version) by Gene Clark from the No Other Album, 1974 Gene Clark had Native American heritage that became a more significant influence as he matured. The acoustic version of Silver Raven has the tone and cadence of a tribal chant. He sings of spiritual unity with the elements, and acceptance of man's destiny. For him the Silver Raven is a prophet bringing visions of the future and warnings of catastrophic events. I prefer this acoustic version of the song to the more elaborate version that appeared on Gene Clark's 1974 album, No Other. I believe the simplicity of the acoustic arrangement accentuates Gene's foreboding lyrics, mystical imagery and ethereal vocal delivery. Lyrics Have you seen the silver raven? She has wings and she can fly. Far above the darkened waters, far above the troubled sky. Have you seen the changing rivers? Now they wait their turn to die. But they turn their tide upon you when the sea begins to cry. Have you seen the changing windows of the sea beyond the stars? And the sky beyond the sunbeams, and the world beyond your dreams? Have you seen the old world dying which was once what new worlds seem? Have you seen the silver raven? She has wings that barely gleam. They barely gleam; they barely glimmer, as she circles past the sun. And she tries to tell her sister that her trials have just begun.

Olderblading v.1
I started a facebook group called "OG Bladers" a while back with as many former and current pros & industry heads that I could muster up, and it's been a great revival in our little niche of old guys. Everyone has been skating more lately, so I figured I would stoke the fires and get a contribution based edit project going.
The response was far better than I could have hoped for, and I am very pleased with the final product and stoked on the effort everyone put in. This is also a promo for my OG Blader Reunion Jam this July (14th) in San Diego, CA. More details on that at http://ogbladers.com
Big thanks to everyone who filmed clips, so many to list... soon.
Produced, directed and edit by Beau Cottington.

Gene Clark - Past My Door (Gene Clark Sings For You acetate, 1967)
This unreleased, never-before-heard track was recently played on Andrew Sandoval's "Come To The Sunshine" program. Couldn't let this wind up drifting into the ether, so I thought that I'd post this for all those who didn't get to hear it. Whoever is holding onto these things, I hope they're working on getting them out! This cut is one of several that make up the "lost album" known as "Gene Clark Sings For You" - which is actually a set of acetate demo recordings. Going by Clarkophile's notes, this is not the complete cut, the entire track runs 1:15 longer. No, I don't have any of the other cuts. Many thanks to Andrew Sandoval for allowing us the opportunity to hear this one! Information and lyrics courtesy of Clarkophile at clarkophile.blogspot.com Good place to get an idea of what these acetate recordings are all about. Recorded at Gold Star Studios, November 1967 Gene Clark: Vocal, acoustic guitar Unknown: Chamberlin/Mellotron Unknown: Bass Unknown: Electric guitar Unknown: Drums, tambourine (possibly Joel Larson) Lyrics: Past My Door Written by Gene Clark You say it's all your imagination Should I just stand here or bury myself in your floor? You say don't add to my frustration Well, I didn't intend to linger at your door. Blackboard explanations And trial examinations And temperature, Relations on the moon The streetcar of invention An afternoon of slight intention The effects of some strong lesson learned too soon.
