Julia Davis (born 1966) is an English comedy writer and performer, best known for writing and starring in the BBC Three comedy Nighty Night.

In her home town of Bath, Somerset, after studying English and Drama at the College of Ripon and York St John, Davis formed a double act with Jane Roth at a local theatre group. They then formed an improvisation troupe along with the now famous Rob Brydon.

Davis lives in North London with Mighty Boosh star Julian Barratt. The couple have twin boys called Walter and Arthur, born 25 June 2007.

Davis belonged to a comedy troupe which included her future Gavin & Stacey co-stars Rob Brydon and Ruth Jones. Her first break into TV was as a regular cast member of Big Train after her work on a BBC Radio 4 comedy was brought to the attention of Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews. Her career was given a further boost in 1998 after she sent a tape of her work to Steve Coogan who invited to her to write and tour with him later that year.

Davis has starred in many comedy television shows in the UK including I'm Alan Partridge, Big Train, Brass Eye, Jam, Human Remains, Gavin & Stacey, I Am Not An Animal, Dr. Terrible's House of Horrible, Ideal and Nathan Barley.

In 2004 Davis wrote and starred in the highly acclaimed dark comedy Nighty Night, which returned for a second series in 2005. In more serious roles Davis has starred in productions such as the BBC's For the Love of God, The Alan Clark Diaries (in which she plays secretary to the notorious MP), Fear of Fanny, in which she played the original celebrity chef Fanny Cradock, and Persuasion, an adaptation of the Jane Austen novel.

In the last episode of The Office, she is heard on the phone as the voice of a woman from a dating agency in conversation with David Brent. Over Christmas 2008, Davis appeared on Little Britain Abroad as a Russian mail-order bride called Ivanka.

In 2010 Davis co-wrote and co-starred in Lizzie and Sarah with Jessica Hynes. The pilot was aired in the UK on 20 March 2010 on BBC2. It was made by Baby Cow and is noted as being even darker than Davis's previous work.^[1]

In December 2011, Davis appeared in the second episode of the drama series Black Mirror entitled '15 Million Merits' as Judge Charity, a judge on the fictional talent show 'Hot Shot'.^[2] On 22 December 2011, Davis appeared in the Christmas special and finale of the BBC Three comedy How Not to Live Your Life as Anne Yeaman.^[3]

Jessica Hynes (née Stevenson; born 15 November 1972) is an English actress and writer. She was known professionally as Jessica Stevenson until 2007.^[1] She is one of the creators, writers and stars of the British sitcom Spaced.

She lives in Folkestone with her husband Adam Hynes, whom she met when she was 18, and married in 2002. They have three children.

Life and career[link]

Hynes was born in Lewisham, London, on 15 November 1972, but grew up in Brighton, where she attended Dorothy Stringer High School. As a teenager Hynes was part of the National Youth Theatre company, and she made her stage début with the company in Lionel Bart's Blitz in 1990.^[2] In 1992–3 she played a season at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. In the same year she appeared in Peter Greenaway's 1993 film The Baby of Mâcon, playing the first midwife. For the first fourteen years of her career, she used her maiden name as a stage name. Early in her career she teamed up with future Spaced co-star Katy Carmichael in a comedy double-act called The Liz Hurleys, appeared in two productions at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre, and played parts on television in the nursing drama Staying Alive (1995–1997) and short-lived sketch shows Six Pairs of Pants, (Un)natural Acts and Asylum - where the Spaced team (Stevenson, Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright) first assembled. She also guest starred in the first ever episode of Midsomer Murders in 1997.

From 1998-2000 she played the supporting role of Cheryl in the hit sitcom The Royle Family and reprised the role for special episodes in 2006, 2009, and 2010. Also in 1999, she co-wrote and starred in Spaced. Her London theatre début was in April 2002, playing the tough ex-prisoner "Bolla" in Jez Butterworth's The Night Heron at the Royal Court.^[3] In 2004 she played a minor part as Yvonne in horror comedy Shaun of the Dead, again working with Pegg and Wright. In the same year she was also cast as Magda, friend of the titular character, in the Hollywood sequel Bridget Jones' Diary 2 also called Bridget Jones' Diary: The Edge of Reason. In 2005 Hynes took the lead role in the BBC One sitcom According to Bex (which she thought was so bad that she sacked her agent for putting her up for it),^[1] and had a starring role in British comedy Confetti alongside Jimmy Carr, Martin Freeman, and Mark Heap.

In early 2007 she took the lead female role in the film Magicians, starring alongside comic duo David Mitchell and Robert Webb. Later that year she starred in Learners, a comedy drama television movie which she also wrote, on BBC One in November 2007.^[4] She also provided the voice of Mafalda Hopkirk in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

She played as Joan Redfern in the 2007 Doctor Who episodes "Human Nature" and "The Family of Blood". She then appeared in part two of the story The End of Time, playing a character named Verity Newman, who is descended from Joan.^[5] Hynes has appeared in Big Finish's Eighth Doctor audio adventure "Invaders from Mars", with her Spaced colleague Simon Pegg.

In 2007 she starred in Son of Rambow (credited as Jessica Stevenson), playing Mary Proudfoot opposite the star of the film, Bill Milner.

Hynes co-wrote the pilot Phoo Action, based on the cartoons of Jamie Hewlett, which was transmitted on BBC Three in early 2008.^[6]

In the same year Hynes appeared in the film Faintheart and in a revival of Alan Ayckbourne's The Norman Conquests at the Old Vic. In 2009 she made her Broadway début in the play's transfer^[7] and was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance.

In 2009 she returned to the Royal Court in The Priory, a new play by Michael Wynne.^[8]

She plans to pursue a solo career as a standup comedian^[9] as well as publishing a children's book Ants in the Marmalade.^[10]

Jessica Hynes has appeared as a "right-on" PR person Siobhan Sharpe in the London Olympic centred satire "Twenty Twelve" of which the first series screened on BBC4 in 2011, moving to BBC2 in spring 2012. A further series is planned for July 2012.

Jessica has finished filming for the motion picture Nativity 2: The Second Coming, in which she plays competition host Angel Matthews. The film is due to be released in November 2012.

Hynes has won two British Comedy Awards, both for her performances in Spaced: Best Female Comedy Newcomer in 1999 and Best TV Comedy Actress in 2001.^[11] She was nominated for a TV BAFTA for her performance in the largely improvised TV feature Tomorrow La Scala (2000), and for an Olivier Award for her role in the play The Night Heron in 2003.^[11] In 2009 she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play,^[12] but lost out to Angela Lansbury.

Rich Fulcher (born 18 November 1968) is an American comedian and author based in the United Kingdom. He is best known for co-starring in the British comedy series The Mighty Boosh, alongside comedy duo Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding.

Early life[link]

Fulcher was born in Massachusetts.^[1] He attended St. Albans School in Washington, D.C., and then studied as a lawyer (earning a degree in government from Dartmouth College) but after graduating pursued a career in comedy instead. He took to improvised comedy at the ImprovOlympic in Chicago, where he was one of the early members of the Upright Citizens Brigade.

[edit] The Mighty Boosh

Fulcher has played many types of characters but is perhaps best known for playing dull-witted, comic goons. He is probably most famous for his portrayal of Bob Fossil in The Mighty Boosh stage, radio and television shows, as well as playing many other characters, including the Ape of Death and Lester Corncrake. He is also the only writer to provide additional material for the TV series apart from the major writers Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt. Fulcher has a variety of running gags on The Mighty Boosh: he often plays very short characters, performing them on his knees, and when he plays various cockney characters he can be heard muttering, "I'm a cockney, I'm a cockney..." His Boosh characters often die horribly, being grated or otherwise murdered, and as this happens Fulcher will sometimes say, "A little to the left!". It was also in the Mighty Boosh that he met Matt Berry, who played Dixon Bainbridge. In the documentary A Journey Through Time and Space he was said to be the only person who plays a "watered down version of himself". Fulcher claims that after portraying 'Tommy Nooka' people came up to him in the street and demanded him to 'do Tommy'.

Rich Fulcher was a star and major writer for the BBC Three sketch show Snuff Box, along with Matt Berry, whom he met on the set of The Mighty Boosh. Berry plays the High Executioner to the King of England and Fulcher his assistant. He also plays other minor characters in the series. Snuff Box was only aired once on BBC Three (Feb - April 2006) and was released on DVD in the UK in June 2008.

In 2009, Rich authored the book "Tiny Acts of Rebellion" published by Michael O'Mara Books Ltd in the UK (and in the US in 2010) and illustrated by Mr. Bingo. He has made several publicity appearances in promotion of the book at book signings in Europe and the US, as well as on Episode 51 of the radio show / podcast Comedy Death-Ray Radio.

Fulcher is more well known in the UK than in his native country. In the US, Fulcher was one of the "undercover" comedians who posed as various absurd talk show guests in the 2004 Comedy Central series Crossballs. His other American claim to fame is that he is one of the body doubles for Mike Myers in Wayne's World. In 1998 he starred in and wrote for the sketch show Unnatural Acts for the Paramount Comedy Channel alongside his future Mighty Boosh co-stars Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding and also Seán Cullen and Rich Easter. Fulcher played a baker in AD/BC: A Rock Opera, where he collaborated with Matt Berry. The pair then starred in their own comedy series, Snuff Box, on BBC Three. In addition to his acting and writing Fulcher is also a singer and dancer, and has employed these talents in various Boosh episodes and stage shows, on Snuff Box, and as tech correspondent/stand up comic Dane Rivers on the comedy videocast Goodnight Burbank. He was interviewed on the first episode of comedian Steve Agee's podcast The John Show. He has also provided the voice over for an MBNA credit card advert. In 2007 he provided the vocals to the electro song "Uncle Kevin" by DeadDogInBlackBag.

On 5 November 2007 he starred in Golf War on E4, alongside Season 1 Boosh regulars Simon Farnaby and Matt Berry.^[2] He currently stars in ITV's mobile TV show "The Gym" as Dave Darblay, a life coach unable to recover from the loneliness of being left by his wife.

In 2008, he also appeared in an episode of Adult Swim's Fat Guy Stuck in Internet entitled "Beast and Breakfast", as well as playing the character of Mr Brilliance in new BBC Three comedy, Trexx and Flipside. He also appeared as the priest at Sarah Silverman's wedding to her dog in a 2008 episode of The Sarah Silverman Program, and reprises the role in the later episode "Nightmayor".

It was announced on 11 November 2008 that MTV have commissioned a spin-off series of The Mighty Boosh, starring Rich Fulcher as Eleanor, the transvestite who appeared in the Mighty Boosh Series Three episode "Eels". [1] It is not clear if any other Mighty Boosh characters will appear in it. A 20-minute pilot episode has already been made, which can be viewed on several comedy websites currently and is expected to air on MTV2 shortly (as will the series).

He appeared as a talent show judge in series 3 of the hit British TV drama Skins. He appeared on the final episode of the US TV series Monk.

He has a recurring role the new Comedy Central show Jon Benjamin Has a Van as Edward Sheath, a consumer advocate bringing attention to the terrible things he does in the segment "Shame on Me".

He guest starred in the episode Exes and Oh-No's! of the Adult Swim show NTSF:SD:SUV.

He presents the music show InPutOutPut [2] on Channel 4 which is currently showing season 2.

He recently guest starred in an episode of SpongeBob Squarepants title "Way of the Sponge"

Most recently seen on Euro's Most Shocking Moments. He wasn't very funny.
