Zak Devin Boggs (born December 25, 1986 in Marietta, Ohio) is an American soccer player who currently plays for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL.
Boggs grew up in Vienna, West Virginia and attended Parkersburg High School before transferring to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. He played college soccer at West Virginia University, the University of Central Florida, and the University of South Florida, where he was named to the Big East All-Tournament Team, earned All-Big East Third Team honors, was named Big East Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America and All-District teams as a junior.
During his college years Boggs also played for six seasons with the Bradenton Academics in the USL Premier Development League, scoring 49 goals in 80 appearances.
Boggs was drafted in the second round (31st overall) of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft by the New England Revolution.
He made his professional debut on March 27, 2010, in New England's opening game of the 2010 MLS season against the Los Angeles Galaxy. On May 8, 2010, Boggs made his first MLS start and scored his first two goals in the Revs' 3-2 loss to the Columbus Crew.
The New England Revolution is an American professional soccer club based in the Greater Boston area that competes in Major League Soccer (MLS), in the Eastern Conference of the league. It is one of the ten charter clubs of MLS, having competed in the league since its inception.
The club is owned by Robert Kraft, who also owns the New England Patriots along with his son, Jonathan Kraft who is a major investor of the club. The name "Revolution" refers to the New England region's significant involvement in the American Revolution.
New England currently play their home matches at Gillette Stadium. The club played their home games at the adjacent and now-demolished Foxboro Stadium, from 1996 until 2001. The Revs hold the distinction of being the only original MLS team to have every league game in its history televised.
The Revolution was one of ten original MLS franchises to compete in the league's inaugural season. The Revs won their first major trophy, in the 2007 US Open Cup. The following year, they won the 2008 North American SuperLiga. The Revolution have never won an MLS Cup nor MLS Supporters' Shield, despite reaching the MLS Cup finals on five occasions in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2014; and having the second best regular season record in 2005.
New England is a region which comprises six states of the Northeastern United States: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. It is bordered by New York to the west, Long Island Sound to the south, the Atlantic Ocean and the Canadian province of New Brunswick to the east, and the Canadian province of Quebec to the north.
In one of the earliest English settlements in North America, Pilgrims from England first settled in New England in 1620, forming the Plymouth Colony. Ten years later, the Puritans settled north of Plymouth Colony in Boston, thus forming Massachusetts Bay Colony. Over the next 126 years, New England fought in four French and Indian Wars, until the British and their Iroquois Confederacy allies defeated the French and their Algonquin allies in North America.
In the late 18th century, the New England Colonies initiated the resistance to the British Parliament's efforts to impose new taxes without the consent of the colonists. The Boston Tea Party was a protest to which Great Britain responded with a series of punitive laws stripping Massachusetts of self-government, which were termed the "Intolerable Acts" by the colonists. The confrontation led to open warfare in 1775, the expulsion of the British authorities from New England in spring 1776, and the Declaration of Independence in July 1776.
