Artist Interview: Adam "Adrock" Horovitz (Beastie Boys)
More info on Reason: www.propellerheads.se It's hard to fully comprehend the impact the Beastie Boys have had on popular music. In collaborations with Rick Rubin and The Dust Brothers, the Beastie Boys have birthed some of the most infectious and fun beats of the last 25 years. From the early 2000s, on a recommendation from band-mate Mike D, Adam Horovitz (Adrock) started making beats in Reason and instantly ditched his venerable SP1200. Reason has been at the heart of their beat laboratory ever since.

Beastie Boys' Ad-Rock reveals new album's backstory
Rolling Stone recently caught up with Beastie Boys rapper Adam Horowitz before he DJ'd an event at the Museum of Modern Art celebrating Looking at Music 3.0, an exhibition that includes videos and music by the band. "When we started, we were teenagers and basically we were just thinking about what will happen by the end of the night," Horowitz told Rolling Stone. "We never planned on any of this stuff, let alone being in MoMA. I used to come here with my mom as a kid, and to think that I'd be in a museum or buy our records is totally weird and still is 30 years later."

Duck Sauce "Barbra Streisand"
Duck Sauce, the eminent producer duo comprised of A-Trak and Armand Van Helden, are primed to drop their second official single, “Barbra Streisand” on October 12th. If 3 million YouTube views of last year’s debut “aNYway” are any indicator, the official release of “Barbra Streisand” will be met with rabid anticipation as fan-recorded bootlegs have fueled blog excitement all summer.
"Barbra Streisand" continues to perfect the Duck Sauce sound, which joyously mashes classic disco house with forward-thinking dancefloor energy and expert production. A-Trak and AVH are bona fide DJ heroes whose team-ups are fueled by anything-goes samples, an almost childlike sense of fun, and 100% NYC attitude. This approach has made Duck Sauce fans-for-life out of partygoers around the globe, and will continue to convert anyone within earshot of "Barbra"'s instantly addictive, whistling hook.
For the video, director So Me (Justice, Kid Cudi, MGMT) uses the song to soundtrack a hyperactive, ecstatic New York City travelogue. Shot over a week of long nights out with A-Trak and Armand (including live footage from the Fool's Gold "Day Off" labor day block party), the clip is a pop-art adventure starring commandeered taxis and hotdog stands, sexy strangers, and a who's-who of famous friends: rappers, producers, indie rockers, graffiti writers and nightlife icons all take turns adding their own special sauce to the song, turning "Barbra Streisand" into one of this year's must-rewind clips.
Watch the video and see just how many cameos you can catch, then pick up the "Barbra Streisand" single (featuring striking sleeve art from Fool's Gold art director Dust La Rock) on October 12th.

"THE HEART & SOUL OF NEW YORK CITY"
A K1X film by Kevin Couliau
Yes, it's about that time. Rain, sleet and snow have made way for the sun, long evenings and fresh sneakers. Early may, when Europe's hardwood champions have been crowned and the NBA playoffs shift into full gear, marks the inofficial start of the real basketball season: the streetball season! That's when reputations are made, nicknames are born and every ballplayer naturally gravitates towards that "thump", "thump" sound of his or her home court. Playground basketball is where it all started. Playground basketball is where talent is honed and friendships are made. It's where neighborhoods gather and where skills and sweat are a currency. That's especially true for the mecca of basketball, New York City. Nowhere else do streetball tournaments, players and games attract a quasi-religious following. Dollars, pride and bragging rights are on the line. Believe the hype!
The idea for a visual love letter to NY basketball was born when Red Cafe's unreleased track "Heart & Soul" established itself as an instant office-favorite at K1X headquarters in Munich (Germany) last spring. Niels Jager (K1X Go-To Guy): "The tune was on replay 24/7. And one day it hit us: let's build a statue for NYC streetball!" Red Cafe's ode to the city that never sleeps is a Pete Rock production that boasts all the makings of a hip hop classic. K1X, who has been active in the outfitting of several high profile NYC streetball tournaments for several years, was all the more surprised to find out that this beast of a tune was not yet a prime focus of Red Cafe's record label. Shake Down quickly agreed to let K1X shoot a poetic clip for the song, whose lyrics are a glowing personification of K1X's appreciation for street basketball: The Heart & Soul of New York City.
French streetball documentarist Kevin Couliau (Asphalt Chronicles), who spent the summer of 2009 in the five boroughs hunting down supreme blacktop action, was a natural choice to capture the raw essence of NYC and its rich streetball culture. As was the Canon 5D Mark II as Couliau's weapon of choice. Art director / director / producer Thibaut de Longeville (director of the acclaimed "Just For Kicks" sneaker culture documentary) and motion graphic designer Vincent Dumond of 360 Creative in Paris added their visual expertise to the project and took care of elegant motion graphics and bona fide post production.
The outcome of this work will celebrate its world premiere on May 1st 2010 on k1x.com. The clip features action from K1X affiliated tournaments in Harlem ("Together We Chill" and "Kingdome Classic") and the Lower East Side ("Lower Manhattan Classic") as well as a variety of other city courts and an impressive array of cameos by iconic players, opinion leading heads and a bunch of regular dudes. Bobbito Garcia, who got an early preview of the clip last winter had this to say: "It's so beautiful, man. It's snowing tonight but it made me look forward to the coming summer months again."
World Premiere: Witness "The Heart & Soul of New York City" on May 1st 2010 on k1x.com!

You can see it in any color, because of your clear feeling
Dont worry about it, lets just go as we are.

The rain will stop, and the sky will shines in rainbow colors

New York: The Paul's Boutique corner
There never was a Paul's Boutique on this corner; the name came from a place in Brooklyn that had closed down by the time the album came out. But Beasties Ad-Rock, Mike D, and MCA pilfered their own apartments—and made a Paul's Boutique sign—to dress up this corner for the 360-degree photo taken by Jeremy Shatan, a friend of the band and our guest for this segment.
