Luciano Pozo González, better known as Chano Pozo (January 7, 1915 in Havana – December 3, 1948 in New York City) was an Afro-Cuban jazz percussionist, singer, dancer and composer. Despite only living to age 33, he played a major role in the founding of Latin jazz. He was also a key influence on trumpet legend Dizzy Gillespie, co-writing some of Gillespie's Latin-flavored compositions including "Manteca" and "Tin Tin Deo", and serving as the first Latin percussionist in Gillespie's band.
Luciano "Chano" Pozo González was born in Havana to Cecelio González and Carnación Pozo. Chano grew up with three sisters and a brother, as well as his older half brother, Felix Chapotín, who would later become one of the great Cuban soneros. The family struggled with poverty throughout his youth. His mother died when Chano was eleven, and Cecelio took his family to live with his long-time mistress, Natalia, who was Felix's mother.

In my head everything was perfect
every note resounds in harmony
but all I seem to offer up are dischords
and every note I sing sounds out of key
and every time I play with passion
I start breaking strings
and my voice cracks
when I sing from my heart
guess that's the price
I've got to pay to know that i'm alive
this melody is tearing me apart
so now what do I have to show
and what price do I have to pay
and like a sayan I won't grow
unless I'm battered in the fray
and we're all in the same machine
each one with his own broken dreams
passion gives way to failure
so let's all try and understand
you take my hand and i'll take yours
