House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, told Bloomberg Television in an interview Tuesday that he 'probably won't' back legislation to reform Internet sales tax.
Under the bill passed Monday 69-27 in the Senate, states could require out-of-state Internet retailers to collect sales tax. Boehner dismissed it as being too difficult to implement in an already chaotic tax climate.
“Moving this bill where you’ve got 50 different sales tax codes, it’s a mess out there,” Boehner told Bloomberg Television. “You’re going to make it much more difficult for online retailers to be able to comply.”
Ohio's retailers have long advocated for such an 'Amazon tax' to level the playing field with online competitors.
