Bill " Bojangles " ROBINSON " The Sand Dance " !!!
RARE OLDIES VIDEO FROM THE FILM " STORMY WEATHER " WITH MR BILL ROBINSON ! Bill Bojangles Robinson (May 25, 1878 November 25, 1949) was an American tap dancer and actor of stage and film. Robinson was born in Richmond, Virginia to Maxwell, a machine-shop worker, and Maria Robinson, a choir singer. He was raised by his grandmother after both parents died when he was an infant—his father from chronic heart disease, and his mother from natural causes. Details of Robinson's early life are known only through legend, much of it perpetuated by Bill Robinson himself. He claims he was christened "Luther"—a name he did not like. He suggested to his younger brother Bill that they should exchange names. When Bill objected, Luther applied his fists, and the exchange was made. At the age of six, Robinson began dancing for a living, appearing as a "hoofer" or song-and-dance man in local beer gardens. He soon dropped out of school to pursue dancing as a career. In 1886, he joined Mayme Remington's troupe in Washington, DC, and toured with them. In 1891, at the age of 12, he joined a traveling company in The South Before the War, and in 1905 worked with George Cooper as a vaudeville team. He gained great success as a nightclub and musical comedy performer, and during the next 25 years became one of the toasts of Broadway. Not until he was 50 did he dance for white audiences, having devoted his early career exclusively to appearances on the black theater circuit. In 1908 in Chicago, he met ...

Although this clip has been posted on You Tube in the past, I think that the quality here is a little stronger, hence its inclusion here on this "channel.". In any case, it is certainly worth revisiting again and again. This is an excerpt from the earliest extant feature film in which Bill "Bojangles" Robinson appears, a black cast film from 1932 titled "Harlem In Heaven." Although the off-screen accompanist has occasionally been identified as Eubie Blake, it is actually Putney Dandridge, who worked regularly with Robinson during this period. While I have re-recorded the sound for this excerpt, the picture is regrettably somewhat "contrasty." On the other hand, this film is highly significant since it presents the most complete and authentic version of Robinson's step dance, one that would have been performed on stage and at the Cotton Club during this period.

Chopper: Chopper Reid Shoots "The Turk" at BoJangles Nightclub
*Warning Violent Scene* One of the most violent scenes from the film "Chopper". Mark Brandon Reid AKA "Chopper" shoots "The Turk" at Bojangles Night Club car park. In this scene Mark "Chopper" Reid (Eric Bana) gets wind of that he is being lead outside to be murdered as part of contract killing...but instead Chopper shoots first. Typically, as portrayed in other parts of the film, Chopper apologises to his victim "You alright ?, Give us a look, I'm sorry mate". Not sure if Eric Bana took liberty with the role here, but it's quite obvious he is not alright, and with the line "Give us a look" what is he suggesting...Chopper is doctor? Dr Chooper. What next... "mmm yeah that's pretty bad mate, you want me to drive you to hospital?"

JERRY JEFF WALKER ~ Mr Bojangles ~.wmv
Jerry Jeff Walker ~ MR BOJANGLES ~ ( JJ Walker). I am dedicating this song to my cousin who is fighting in harms way in Afghanistan. "Mr Bojangles" is a song writtten and recorded in 1968. The song was inspired by an encounter with a street performer in the New Orleans First Precinct jail and refers to neither the famous stage and movie dancer "Bill Bojangles" Robinson nor the New Orleans blues musician Babe Stovall. According to Walker, a murder on the 4th of July weekend in 1965 precipitatied the arrest of all the street people in the area. In the crowded cell, a disheveled homeless man began to talk to Walker, who had been arrested earlier for drunkeness. The man told various stories of his life, but the tone darkened after "Mr Bojangles" recalled his dog who`d been run over. Someone then asked for something to lighten the mood, and the man obliged with a tap dance. Walker mentions that all the men in the cell had nicknames to prevent easy misidentification by the police. The dancer`s name was "Mr Bojangles". In his autobiography, Walker makes it clear that the man he met was white. Walker pointed out, at the time, the jail in New Orleans were segregated by color."

Pitbull- Bojangles- by KahL-One
So there's a bit of a short story behind all of this. After visiting New York Film Academy, one of the points brought up was in how many students in their young careers venture off to do music videos. Growing up off of Video Music Box, MTV, BET and so many others, I used to adore watching these all the time. So immediately, this idea interested me. Considering that music essentially drives my projects from start to finish anyhow, I wanted to experiment with producing a music video from an editing standpoint. So I chose this song out of the blue, since some of Pitbull's music and videos are pretty intense. You can check out the original video here: www.youtube.com

Robin Hood - Bojangles (explicit lyrics)
Here's a video I made using clips from Disney's movie Robin Hood to the song Bojangles by Pit Bull and Lil John. I got the idea from knowing Little John is the bear character in this movie, and I had a little fun with it. The song is uncensored, so please don't show it to your kids because of the cussing in the song. It's a funny video, and I hope you enjoy it!
