Briscoe Group is a New Zealand retail chain. It has 90 stores throughout New Zealand trading under the Briscoes Homeware, Living & Giving, and Rebel Sport nameplates.

History

The Briscoe Brothers

The Briscoe Brothers are the professional wrestling tag team of Jay Briscoe (Jamin "Jay" Pugh) and Mark Briscoe (Mark Pugh). They are currently wrestling for the American promotion Ring of Honor (ROH) and in the past have worked most notably for Full Impact Pro (FIP), Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW), and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG), as well as Japanese promotion Pro Wrestling Noah.

Their wrestling careers have seen them work in promotions all over the United States and the world, beginning in the northeast United States with the East Coast Wrestling Association and Combat Zone Wrestling. They have won tag team championships in nearly every promotion they have worked for, and are seen as a consistent draw and one of the best tag teams on the independent circuit.

The Briscoe Brothers are best known for their work in Ring of Honor and, along with Christopher Daniels are the only wrestlers currently working for the company who were featured on its first-ever event on February 23rd 2002. Other than an 18-month absence from August 2004 to February 2006, the brothers have been focal points of the company throughout its history, feuding with some of their biggest stars and holding the ROH World Tag Team Championship a record eight times as a team. On December 29, 2007, during their fourth reign, the Briscoe Brothers became the longest reigning tag team champions in ROH history. The record was broken three years later by The Kings of Wrestling.

Tag team

Tag team wrestling is a type of professional wrestling in which matches are contested between teams of multiple wrestlers. A tag team may be made up of wrestlers who normally wrestle in singles competition, but more commonly are made of established teams who wrestle regularly as a unit and have a team name and identity.

In most team matches, only one competitor per team is allowed in the ring at a time. This status as the active or legal wrestler may be transferred by physical contact, most commonly a palm-to-palm "tag" which resembles a high five.

The team-based match has been a mainstay of professional wrestling since the mid twentieth century, and most promotions have sanctioned a championship division for tag teams.

The term "tag team" has since become used in common parlance to describe two or more people who alternate or cooperate in participation in an activity, and "tag-teaming" to describe the act of alternating with an ally, e.g. a couple tag-teaming in an argument with another person.

Ring of Honor

Ring of Honor (ROH) is an American professional wrestling promotion, founded in 2002 by RF Video owner Rob Feinstein. From 2002 to 2011, the promotion was under the ownership of Cary Silkin before being sold to the Sinclair Broadcast Group (SBG), an American telecommunications company that operates the largest number of local television stations in the United States.

ROH holds TV tapings, pay-per-view events, live events and internet pay-per-view events throughout the United States and Canada. It has also held shows in the United Kingdom and Japan. Annual shows include the Anniversary Show, Supercard of Honor (held annually during WrestleMania weekend), Best in the World, Global Wars, Death Before Dishonor, Glory By Honor, and Final Battle (the last show of the calendar year and ROH's marquee event).

ROH records all of its shows and sells them on DVD through mail order and through its online store, which has developed a fanbase for the promotion in the United States and beyond. In 2009, ROH signed a television deal with HDNet, which aired shows every week until 2011. As of September 2011, ROH's flagship broadcast Ring of Honor Wrestling has been syndicated by parent company Sinclair Broadcasting, and airs on Sinclair owned stations across the country. ROH is also broadcast on Samurai TV in Japan, and is widely regarded as the third largest professional wrestling promotion in the United States, behind WWE and TNA.
