Värttinä (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈʋært.tinæ], meaning "spindle") is a Finnish folk music band which was started as a project by Sari and Mari Kaasinen in 1983 in the village of Rääkkylä, in Karelia, the southeastern region of Finland. Many transformations have taken place in the band since then. Värttinä shot into fame with the release of their 1991 album Oi Dai. As of 2009, the band consists of three lead female vocalists supported by three acoustic musicians. The vocalists sing in the Karelian dialect of the Finnish language.
In August 2005, Värttinä recorded their tenth studio album called Miero at Finnvox Studios, Helsinki. It was released on January 25, 2006 in Finland, and January 30, 2006 worldwide. In 2006, Värttinä also released the Värttinä Archive Live DVD, which included material from their 20th anniversary concert and other new and archive material. Värttinä collaborated with A. R. Rahman, a famous composer from India, in composing the music for the theatrical adaptation of The Lord of the Rings, which played in Toronto in 2006 and in London in 2007.

Värttinä je finská folková hudební skupina, kterou v severokarelské vesnici Rääkkylä založily roku 1983 Sari a Mari Kaasinenovy a jejich matka Pirkko. Jejich hudba vychází z původní karelské a ugrofinské hudby. Sestava skupiny se poměrně často mění – největší změna proběhla v roce 1990, kdy ze skupiny odešla většina původních členů a přidali se noví. Z tohoto roku pochází i jejich první úspěšné album – Oi Dai. V současné době Värttinu tvoří tři vedoucí vokalistky, které doprovází šest muzikantů. Värttinä společně s indickým skladatelem A. R. Rahmanem připravila hudbu pro muzikál Pán prstenů, který měl premiéru v Torontu 23. března 2006 a setkal se s nepříznivou reakcí kritiky. V srpnu 2005 Värttinä v Helsinkách nahrála své desáté studiové album Miero, které vyšlo v únoru 2006. Värttinä také připravila DVD s názvem Archive Live se záznamem koncertu k svému 20. výročí a dalšího archivního materiálu. Toto DVD vyšlo 31. května 2006. Odnoží skupiny je duo Kuunkuiskaajat (Susan Aho a Johanna Virtanen), které reprezentovalo Finsko na Eurovizi 2010 v Oslu.

Värttinä je finská folková hudební skupina, kterou v severokarelské vesnici Rääkkylä založily roku 1983 Sari a Mari Kaasinenovy a jejich matka Pirkko. Jejich hudba vychází z původní karelské a ugrofinské hudby. Sestava skupiny se poměrně často mění – největší změna proběhla v roce 1990, kdy ze skupiny odešla většina původních členů a přidali se noví. Z tohoto roku pochází i jejich první úspěšné album – Oi Dai. V současné době Värttinu tvoří tři vedoucí vokalistky, které doprovází šest muzikantů. Värttinä společně s indickým skladatelem A. R.
