St. Norbert is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba.
The original riding of St. Norbert was established at the time of the province's creation in 1870. For the 1870 provincial election, it was divided into two separate ridings: St. Norbert North and St. Norbert South. Subsequently, it was reduced to a single riding.
St. Norbert was a francophone-majority riding. It was eliminated in 1879, at a time when francophone representation in the province was being reduced.
It was created by redistribution in 1979, and has officially existed since the provincial election of 1981. The riding is located in the southernmost tip of the City of Winnipeg.
St. Norbert is bordered to the east by Seine River, to the south and west by the rural riding of Morris, and to the north by Riel, Fort Garry and Fort Whyte. The riding's character is suburban.
Saint Norbert College (SNC) is a private Catholic liberal arts college in De Pere, Wisconsin. Founded in October 1898 by Abbot Bernard Pennings, a Norbertine priest and educator, the school was named after Saint Norbert of Xanten. In 1952, the college became coeducational. The school currently enrolls about 2,160 students.
St. Norbert College was established when Abbot Bernard Pennings, a Dutch immigrant priest from the Premonstratensian Berne Abbey of Heeswijk, the Netherlands, founded the college to train young men for the priesthood. Frances I. Van Dyke, a seminarian, was the first and, at the time, the only student. St. Norbert is the first and only institution of higher learning in the world sponsored by the Premonstratensian order. Abbot Pennings later started a commerce program at the college for lay students before retiring in 1955.
St. Norbert's second president, the Rev. Dennis Burke, O.Praem., expanded the college, anticipating the student population would eventually reach 2,000. Robert Christin, who became president in 1968, implemented the current course system and the academic divisional structure. In 1973, Neil Webb, a former faculty member and vice president, became president. With his strong fiscal management abilities, Webb established the first substantial permanent endowment for the school.
Common Prayer are an American, Brooklyn-based indie rock band, led by Jason Sebastian Russo. They released their debut full-length album, "There Is A Mountain," in 2010 on England's Big Potato Records (founded by Neil Halstead) in the UK, and on Russo's own South Cherry Entropy imprint of Virtual Label digitally in North America.
"There Is A Mountain" was recorded in a cow barn at Hill Farm in Steventon, Oxfordshire, at the site of the Truck Festival, with significant musical contributions from Joe and Robin Bennett of Goldrush. Other players include Alexandra Marvar, as well as Justin Russo of The Silent League. The record was well received in the UK; the BBC called it "one of the year-so-far’s most recommended under-the-radar releases."
In October 2013, Common Prayer released their second LP "Frame The River" with the help of the O+Festival. The album began in Neil Halstead's Cornwall studio while the band was on tour in support of "There Is A Mountain," and was completed in Brooklyn, NY nearly 2 years later. It was produced by Damon Whittemore and Jeff Mercel at Valvetone Studios.
Norbert is a Germanic given name, from nord "north" and berht "bright". Norbert is also occasionally found as a surname.
College (Latin: collegium) is an educational institution or a constituent part of one. Usage of the word college varies in English-speaking nations. A college may be a degree-awarding tertiary educational institution, a part of a collegiate university, or an institution offering vocational education.
In the United States and Italy, "college" formally refers to a constituent part of a university, but generally "college" and "university" are used interchangeably, whereas in Oceania and South Asia, "college" may refer to a secondary or high school, a college of further education, a training institution that awards trade qualifications, or a constituent part of a university (See this comparison of British and American English educational terminology for further information).
In ancient Rome a collegium was a club or society, a group of people living together under a common set of rules (con- = "together" + leg- = "law" or lego = "I choose" or "I read").

DE PERE, WI -- St. Norbert College is hoping to expand its historic legacy. On Monday the De Pere City Council will vote on whether to approve a move to give more campus buildings historic recognition. If the plan is approved Monday, the first task a hired consultant would have would be to compile a list of all campus buildings built between 1951, and 1975.

This is the working prototype of a new way to interact with your windows and tasks - through a "multi-touch navigation display." The demo reel shows off what works already, while the web site shows a few ideas of what could be done. Multi-touch technology offers some exciting benefits (direct manipulation) but has some drawbacks (minimal touch feedback, imprecise, viewing angle/ergonomics) that can hinder it. I've combined, in this interface design, a standard computer workstation and the applications you're used to, with the keyboard, mouse, and vertical monitor that work well, with the possibilities for high-level manipulation on the multi-touch screen. I produced the multi-touch software shown as a part of my senior capstone project in computer science at St. Norbert College . Tac...
History [edit]Partridge and his academy The university was founded in 1819 at Norwich by military educator and former superintendent of West Point, Captain Alden B. Partridge. Captain Partridge believed in the "American System of Education," a traditional liberal arts curriculum with instruction in civil engineering and military science. After leaving West Point because of congressional disapproval of his system, he returned to his native state of Vermont to create the American Literary, Scientific and Military Academy. Captain Partridge, in founding his academy, rebelled against the reforms of Sylvanus Thayer to prevent the rise of what he saw as the greatest threat to the security of the young republic: a professional officer class. He believed that a well-trained militia was an urgent ...

I built this "projected Rear DI" multi-touch device in the course of my senior project at St. Norbert College, to support software that I wrote to manage tasks. Many hours of construction by myself and my family went into this device, and the results are pretty great. These demos are example software that come with my selected multi-touch framework, PyMT, which has my highest recommendation as easy-to-use, smart multi-touch widget and event software. Enjoy these fun little demos! My original software is demoed here: http://www.vimeo.com/4859825 More information about the hardware: http://compsci.snc.edu/cs460/pavlra/hardware/desk1/ Supporting software: Ubuntu Linux 9.04, tbeta, pymt, Python, and my own rp-mt-scripts system for installing multi-touch software on Linux. Maritime Customs and Chinese Imperialism in the 1880s: A New Look at Korea’s “Chinese Decade” Using the newly-discovered correspondence of Pusan’s first commissioner of customs (1883-1886), the British American William Nelson Lovatt, this Forum presents a new perspective on China’s attempt to dominate Korea before the Sino-Japanese War. While most studies concentrate on Yuan Shikai, the Chinese “Resident” in Seoul, this new perspective adds to our understanding of this critical period in late Choson Korea by examining how Korea’s fledgling customs service was seen as an inviting target for those in China who wanted to control Korea directly rather than the indirect method preferred by Li Hongzhang. Dragnet is a radio and television crime drama about the cases of a dedicated Los Angeles police detective, Sergeant Joe Friday, and his partners. The show takes its name from an actual police term, a "dragnet", meaning a system of coordinated measures for apprehending criminals or suspects. Scripts tackled a number of topics, ranging from the thrilling (murders, missing persons and armed robbery) to the mundane (check fraud and shoplifting), yet "Dragnet" made them all interesting due to fast-moving plots and behind-the-scenes realism. In "The Garbage Chute" (December 15, 1949), they even had a locked room mystery. Though rather tame by modern standards, Dragnet—especially on the radio—handled controversial subjects such as sex crimes and drug addiction with unprecedented and even startl...
Our Miss Brooks is an American situation comedy starring Eve Arden as a sardonic high school English teacher. It began as a radio show broadcast from 1948 to 1957. When the show was adapted to television (1952--56), it became one of the medium's earliest hits. In 1956, the sitcom was adapted for big screen in the film of the same name. Connie (Constance) Brooks (Eve Arden), an English teacher at fictional Madison High School. Osgood Conklin (Gale Gordon), blustery, gruff, crooked and unsympathetic Madison High principal, a near-constant pain to his faculty and students. (Conklin was played by Joseph Forte in the show's first episode; Gordon succeeded him for the rest of the series' run.) Occasionally Conklin would rig competitions at the school--such as that for prom queen--so tha...
Dragnet is a radio and television crime drama about the cases of a dedicated Los Angeles police detective, Sergeant Joe Friday, and his partners. The show takes its name from an actual police term, a "dragnet", meaning a system of coordinated measures for apprehending criminals or suspects. Dragnet debuted inauspiciously. The first several months were bumpy, as Webb and company worked out the program's format and eventually became comfortable with their characters (Friday was originally portrayed as more brash and forceful than his later usually relaxed demeanor). Gradually, Friday's deadpan, fast-talking persona emerged, described by John Dunning as "a cop's cop, tough but not hard, conservative but caring." (Dunning, 210) Friday's first partner was Sergeant Ben Romero, portrayed by Bart...
