Michael Francis Moore (born April 23, 1954) is an American documentary filmmaker, screenwriter, author, journalist, actor, and left-wing political activist. He is the director and producer of Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004), a critical look at the presidency of George W. Bush and the War on Terror, which is the highest-grossing documentary at the American boxoffice of all time and winner of the Palme d'Or. His film Bowling for Columbine (2002), which examines the causes of the Columbine High School massacre, won the Academy Award for Documentary Feature. Both Fahrenheit 9/11 and Sicko (2007), which examines health care in the United States, are among the top ten highest-grossing documentaries. In September 2008, he released his first free movie on the Internet, Slacker Uprising, which documented his personal quest to encourage more Americans to vote in presidential elections. He has also written and starred in the TV shows TV Nation, a satirical newsmagazine television series and The Awful Truth, a satirical show.
Slacker Uprising is a movie of Michael Moore's tour of colleges in swing states during the 2004 election, with a goal to encourage 18- to 29-year-olds to vote, and the response it received. The film is a re-edited version of Captain Mike Across America, which played at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2007.
It is one of the first feature length films made by a known director to be released as a free and legal download online. The free download is only available to those residing in the United States and Canada. The film was also made available free for online viewing and download on the Lycos Cinema platform as well as iTunes and blip.tv. It had a one-night-only run at the Michigan Theater, where Michael Moore spoke briefly. The film is available in DVD format.
Slacker Uprising features live performances or appearances by Eddie Vedder (of Pearl Jam), Roseanne Barr, Joan Baez, Tom Morello (of Rage Against the Machine), R.E.M., Steve Earle, and Viggo Mortensen. The original score is by Anti-Flag.
Lawrence Michael "Mike" Rotunda (born March 30, 1958) is an American former professional wrestler, perhaps best known under the name Irwin R. Schyster or I.R.S. for short, a play on the abbreviation of the Internal Revenue Service. He works with the WWE as a road agent and makes occasional appearances on WWE shows as Irwin R. Schyster. Rotunda is the son-in-law of Blackjack Mulligan, and is the father of two successful third-generation wrestlers, Bray Wyatt and Bo Dallas.
Newark Valley, NY 1976 Sectional Champion in 215 lb class
Rotunda was a varsity wrestler at Syracuse University in New York. While he was never an All American, he did win the EIWA Championships in 1981 as a Heavyweight.
After graduating from Syracuse, Rotunda began wrestling in 1981 as a face in Florida Championship Wrestling. He often teamed with his real life brother-in-law, Barry Windham.
Rotunda and Windham joined the World Wrestling Federation as The U.S. Express in 1984. They won the WWF World Tag Team Championship twice, firstly from Dick Murdoch and Adrian Adonis in January 1985. The US Express' most notable feud was with The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff, to whom they lost the title at the first WrestleMania. The US Express regained the belts in June 1985, but lost them two months later to Brutus Beefcake and Greg Valentine. Windham left the WWF soon after. Rotunda continued to wrestle in singles matches until he left the WWF himself, in early 1986.
Across America is a colloquialism for an event that reaches the entire continental United States of America.
Items that use the phrase Across America in their name include:
Captain Mike Across America is a film written, directed and narrated by Michael Moore. It was filmed prior to the 2004 election, when the polling margin between candidates George W. Bush and John Kerry could have tipped either way. It debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7 and 8, 2007. The film was re-edited by Moore into Slacker Uprising, which was released for free on the Internet on September 23, 2008.
Captain Mike Across America premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to lackluster reviews. Most critics alleged that it served as little more than self-promotion for Moore.
Joe Leydon of Variety magazine said:
Will Sloan of Inside Toronto wrote:
According to Rotten Tomatoes Captain Mike Across America was very poorly received by professional critics. Based on all 18 reviews collected by Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an overall approval rating from critics of 28%, with an average score of 4.2/10.

Shooting Michael Moore reveals another side of Moore. We learn that while writing books and shooting films that expose America's inequities and presenting himself as a moral compass, he abused the non-profit status, engaged in questionable tax practices, violated environmental laws, and invested in Halliburton, oil stocks, leading drug companies, and HMO-chains. Additionally, contrary to his public persona, he used and deceived both the "little people" as well as U.S servicemen, and Flint's populace is still waiting for him to bring promised jobs. "It's called a pyramid scheme, because only a few people can sit on top of the pyramid. Their job is to convince everybody else in the pyramid to work really hard because 'maybe you, too, can be up there in the pyramid with me some day,' but of course we all know that's not gonna happen. ... This whole system is set up to make sure that the people at the very, very top get away like bandits. ... You're asking the foxes to mind their own henhouse ... That's essentially what I feel we have, when you have the Rubins' and the Summers' and these guys still around. ... We have been featuring Verve, the graduate dance company out of the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds, for four years now and Verve 10 is here for 2010 with 5 new works and 11 new dancers. Just in-case you don't know what a graduate company is or does then allow us to explain. Before going out into the wide world of dance the major dance schools thought it would be a good idea to give graduates a good idea what to expect in the professional world. So each of the major schools has their own graduate company. The only major difference between Verve and a full on professional company is the dancers don't get paid, so when you think about it it's not really that different from the professional world (little bit of politics, keep it up! Ed!) This year the company have brought in...
Frank Moore is an American performance artist, shaman, poet, essayist, painter, musician and Internet/television personality who has experimented in art, performance, ritual, and shamanistic teaching since the late 1960s. Moore is perhaps most well known as one of the NEA-funded artists targeted by Jesse Helms and the GAO (General Accounting Office) in the early 90s for doing art that was labeled “obscene". He is well known for long (5–48 hours) ritualistic performances with audience participation, nudity, and eroticism. But he has also become well known for his influential writings on performance, art, life, and cultural subversion, for his historical influence on the San Francisco Bay Area music and performance scene, and more recently for his 24/7/365 pioneering webstation, LUVeR (Lov...

I've heard enough from pundits, I've heard our leaders speak
I tell you now I'd rather talk to the people in the streets
'Cause you don't know someone until you've looked them in the eye
And that gave me a purpose and every reason why
I drove myself across America from sea to shining sea
From the rocky coast of Maine to the mighty redwood trees
From the plains of North Dakota to the Gulf of Mexico
It's good to know that hope's alive again across America
I spoke to folks in New Orleans with hammers in their hands
There's a waitress in Missouri who wants her own health plan
And to the workers up in Michigan in all the auto plants
There were working men and women saying yes, we can
Your checks and stocks and banks can't take our hope away
You can't foreclose on hope, nobody has to pay
I drove myself across America from sea to shining sea
From the rocky coast of Maine to the mighty redwood trees
From the plains of North Dakota to the Gulf of Mexico
It's good to know that hope's alive again across America
