Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo, People of the Sun Part 1
Three hundred years ago a small tribe of Indians called Tiguas, displaced by the violent Pueblo Revolt, settled near El Paso, Texas. This community of Pueblo Indians soon became engulfed and eventually overlooked in a landscape dominated by Anglo and Hispanic influences. People of the Sun: The Tiguas of Ysleta, a one-hour documentary, depicts their struggle for federal recognition during the 1960's and offers an in-depth look at the people they have become. Now an officially recognized tribe of more than 1400 members, the Tiguas regulate their own affairs as a sovereign Indian nation and successfully preserve their ancient traditions despite tremendous societal changes. The Tiguas of Ysleta del Sur meet the challenge of maintaining the fine line between being contemporary Texans in El Paso and Pueblo Indians.

Pecos National Historical Park, New Mexico
At midpoint in a passage through the southern end of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the ruins of a Pecos pueblo and Spanish mission share a small ridge. Long before Spaniards entered this country this village commanded the trade path between Pueblo farmers of the Rio Grande and hunting tribes of the buffalo plains. Its 2000 inhabitants could marshall 500 fighting men. With the arrival of the Spaniards and their material/religious quests in the late 1500s, and with decades of Spanish demands and Indian resentment, the Pueblo Revolt of 1680 climaxed this period. With the return (12 years later) of the Spaniards, peace prevailed. The Franciscans moderated their zeal. As allies and traders the Pecos became partners in a relaxed Spanish-Pueblo community. But by the 1780s, disease, Indian raids, and migration had reduced the population of Pecos to fewer that 300. Long standing divisions between the Church and things Spanish and those that hung to the old ways, contributed to this once powerful city-state decline. Pecos was almost a ghost town when the Santa Fe trade began flowing past it in 1821. The last survivors left a decaying pueblo and empty mission church in 1838. They joined their Towa-speaking relatives 80 miles west of Jémez pueblo, where their descendents still live today.

Antithesis Pueblo Revolt
Antithesis Pueblo Revolt Recorded Live At the solidarity library Lawrence Kansas There have been a few misconceptions lately about the origins of our crew. First off Antithesis is NOT just from California!! Our crew comes from all over Native Country. Although we do record in San Francisco and have performed in Cali we are from different parts of this Land and are proud to REP our Native Nations and Homelands but most of all we represent our Mother The Earth and her Indigenous children who suffer at the hands of colonizing invaders. And while some choose to call themselves Native Americans or American Indians, WE ARE NATIVES NOT AMERICANS!!! INDIGENOUS BUT NEVER AMERICAN INDIANS. If you one of the people out there using terms like Revolution, Indigenization, Decolonization or the most abused term SOVEREIGNTY when speaking on our people and plight then you need to get yourself together and realize WE ARE NOT AMERICANS AND THAT FLAG THAT PEOPLE ADORE SO MUCH IS A ICONIC REPRESENTATION OF LAND STOLEN THROUGH SLAUGHTER AND ILLEGAL THEFT DISGUISED BY "LEGISLATION".

Pecos Pueblo by Kah Chun Wong for concert band
Pecos Pueblo was a large and powerful Indian community in the 1500s, existing at the same time with the Comanches and Apaches. It was known as Cicuye before the Spaniards started referring to the tribe as "Pe-kush", a word derived from the Jemez language. These European missionaries wanted to bring to the Indians an understanding of Christianity, and a grand church called the Nuestra Señora de Los Angeles de Porcíuncula (Our Lady of the Angels of Porcíuncula) was constructed and completed in 1625. Unfortunately, this stunning structure was destroyed in the great Pueblo Revolt of 1680, brought about by resentment and anger of the Indians at the oppressive rule of the Spanish authorities. The Europeans were driven out of the land and every object of Christianity was destroyed. However, by the mid-1700s, natural disasters, famine and epidemics started to take their toll on the population of Pecos, and by 1838, they ceased to exist as a functioning pueblo. The music retells this history in an accessible manner in three sections. After a brief introduction, an exciting pulse begins that engulfs the listener into the exciting world of Pecos Pueblo. The slow section provides a calmer interlude to the piece, before a beautiful climax is reached, signifying the beauty and magnificence of the great Church. Soon, war drums start the third and last section, showing the anger and triumph of the Indians in the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. The piece does not end in tragedy; in fact, the music ...

Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo, People of the Sun Part 2
