A local fight for security in al-Anbar province - 10 Sept 07 - Hot Latest News
General Petraeus, the US commander in Iraq, is holding up the Iraqi western province of al-Anbar as an icon of the success of the United State's troop increase in the country. He says it is now peaceful, thanks to their security plan. But as Al Jazeera's James Bays has been finding out, residents in the area are telling a very different story. - Hot Latest News - Watch more on fastlatestnews.com

Thanking Troops in Anbar Province, Al-Asad Airbase, Iraq (2007)
Anbar Province (Arabic: الأنبار; al-'Anbār) (or Al Anbar Governorate) is the largest province in Iraq geographically. Encompassing much of the country's western territory, it shares borders with Syria, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. The provincial capital is Ramadi, other important cities include Fallujah and Haditha. Before 1976 the province was known as Ramadi; before 1962, it was known as Dulaim. in 1976 it was renamed Al Anbar Province. Just about all the inhabitants of the province are Sunni Muslims and mostly from the Dulaim tribe. The name of the province is from the Arabic انبار, 'Anbār, which means "granaries," in Arabic as this region was the primary entrepot on the western borders of Lakhmid Kingdom. Geographically, Anbar province consider part of the Arabian Peninsula. The region's geography is a combination of steppe and true desert, characterised by a desert climate, low rainfall and a large variation in temperature between day and night. Summer temperatures rise to 42 degrees Celsius, whilst in the winter average lows reach 9 degrees Celsius. The northwesterly and southwesterly winds are sometimes to a maximum speed of 21 m / sec. Average rainfall in winter to 115mm. The most important agricultural crops in Al-Anbar are wheat, potatoes, autumn, barley, maize and vegetables and fodder. There are also a large number of orchards and the province has 2.5 million palm trees. Agriculture depends on perfusion or through the rivers and the wells and the rains.[citation ...

Ambush on Marines from Insurgent's Perspective
sorry for the ads but I need the youtube money to help pay for my rent so thanks for your patience! This is a failed ambush attempt by insurgents on September 7 2006 attacking a 3/3 kilo company US marine outpost. Not a good idea. This happened in the al anbar province of iraq in a city called ramadi If I recall correctly, since that was the area 3/3 kilo company was occupying at the time this happened. we (3/3 India company) were in haditha, a few miles north of where they were, so I was not personally in this firefight. All insurgents in this ambush were killed, and no marines were killed or injured. Their video cameras were confiscated after the failed attack.

(kinda funny military vid) Al Anbar, Iraq (2008)
Here is a short video, which contains content appropriate for all ages. The Anbar province, which was once known as "the wild west," is now one of the safest places that I would ever go. The local populace is, again, self sufficient and able to provide for/ protect their own families. We took great strides in improving relationships with the honorable families, while dissipating those groups with evil intentions of mutilation and murder for the mere fact of psychological control. I know everyone has their own "opinion" of the struggles in the middle east, but unless you have been there (and developed relationships with actual Iraqi people), please keep the ignorant comments to yourself. oh, yeah... FYI... the Sunni people of our AO actually cried when we left. CNN doesn't actually tell that part do they.

Iraq prepares to host Syrian refugees
The United Nations says it will move its planned refugee camp in Iraq's al-Anbar province further away from the Syrian border. An official with the UN refugees agency told Al Jazeera this measure is meant to protect those fleeing the violence. Iraq announced it was opening its borders with Syria on Monday, but so far, only a handful of refugees have arrived. Al Jazeera's Jane Arraf reports from the northern Iraqi city of Erbil.

Marine Security Mission al Anbar Province
(Al Asad, IRAQ) - Marines at Al Asad Air Base in Iraq are on a constant vigil, with combat patrols in their area of operation going around the clock. The unique part is that most of these Marines- doing the work of infantry platoons, have actually been pulled from other jobs in the Marine Air Wing that are related to aircraft and air support. The thing that separates Marines from the other military services is that even those with highly technical training and qualifications, are always able to take the Corps' most basic and often most important role, that of the infantryman, or 'grunt'. www.salem-news.com
