About me

I'm a software and language engineer, with a M.A. in Language Technology. I've been a free software contributor since about 2003. I joined Wikipedia in 2004 and soon became a MediaWiki translator. To aid my translation work, I created a wiki which has grown to become translatewiki.net, which now manages translation of dozens of free software projects in hundreds of languages and has thousands of translators. The Translate extension, created for translatewiki.net, is now used on several projects, including Meta-Wiki and mediawiki.org.

My work

I started working for Wikimedia Foundation in 2011, as a member of the Localisation team. I continue doing what brought me to MediaWiki: making the translation process easy and fast.

This includes a lot of i18n (making the software translatable) and facilitating l10n (adapting and translating the software to particular language and culture). In particular, I helped to deploy web fonts and JavaScript based input methods to overcome operating system limitations in language support.
