The Honourable Peter Jay (born 7 February 1937) is a British economist, broadcaster and diplomat.
Peter Jay is the son of Douglas Jay, Baron Jay, and Peggy Jay, both of whom were Labour Party politicians. He was educated at The Dragon School, Oxford (the alma mater of several senior Labour politicians, including Hugh Gaitskell), followed by Winchester College (where he was head boy) and Christ Church, Oxford, where he graduated with a first class honours degree in PPE. He was commissioned in the Royal Navy, then worked as a civil servant at HM Treasury before becoming a journalist and, for 10 years, economics editor with The Times.
In 1961 Jay married Margaret Callaghan, the daughter of Labour politician James Callaghan. In 1977, when his father-in-law had become Prime Minister, Jay was appointed to the important post of Ambassador to the United States by the Foreign Secretary, his friend David Owen. As Jay was just 40 years old, was not a diplomat and had never held any public office, the appointment caused some controversy and accusations of nepotism.
Robert George "Joe" Meek (5 April 1929 – 3 February 1967) was an English record producer and songwriter who pioneered experimental pop music. His best-remembered hit is the Tornados' "Telstar" (1962), which became the first record by a British group to reach number one in the US Hot 100. It also spent five weeks at number one the UK singles chart, with Meek receiving an Ivor Novello Award for this production as the "Best-Selling A-Side" of 1962.
Meek's other hits include "Don't You Rock Me Daddy-O" and "Cumberland Gap" by Lonnie Donegan (as engineer), "Johnny Remember Me" by John Leyton, "Just Like Eddie" by Heinz, "Angela Jones" by Michael Cox, "Have I the Right?" by the Honeycombs, and "Tribute to Buddy Holly" by Mike Berry. Meek's concept album I Hear a New World (1960), which contains innovative use of electronic sounds, was not fully released in his lifetime.
Meek also produced music for films such as Live It Up! (US title Sing and Swing, 1963), a pop music film which featured Gene Vincent, the Outlaws pop group, jazz musician Kenny Ball and others. Meek wrote most of the songs and incidental music, much of which was recorded by the Saints and which Meek produced.

" This Time" . 1967. The b-side to " The Hand don't fit the Glove" from Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers ( featuring Terry Reid). A classic slice of mid sixties British Soul with Terry Reid giving Marriot a run for his money. This is the guy who was first choice for lead vocalist for Led Zeppelin over Robert Plant. Pysch / Freakbeat fans would love his later cuts such as " Tinker Taylor" and "Superlungs". A massive floorfiller on the UK Mod scene albeit a little too short.
Their take on the knees-up classic.

Both sides of the fifth Jaywalkers single
Though the shadows grow tall
And kingdoms they rise and fall
Still your love is without end
Of open hearts so strong to save
Your mercies new for everyday
How great is your faithfulness
You're with me always
Stay with me always
Though evil tears life apart
Still you bring heaven into my heart
A new song you cause me to sing
In the darkness of the night
You take my hand towards the light
And never leave me for all my days
You're with me always
