Jacqueline Yvonne "Jackée" Harry (born August 14, 1956), better known mononymously as Jackée, is an American actress and television personality,^[1] primarily known for her roles on sitcoms and other types of television shows. She is known for her roles as Sandra Clark, the sexy neighbor and nemesis of Mary Jenkins (played by Marla Gibbs), on the TV series 227 (a role she played from 1985 to 1989), and as Tia's mother, Lisa Landry, in the long-running comedy, Sister, Sister.

Born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and raised in Harlem, New York, to a Trinidadian mother and African American father. Harry began studying acting at the Henry Street Settlement on the Lower East Side in New York City and began a career on the New York stage. She appeared in A Broadway Musical, playing a chorine. In 1983, she made her television debut in Another World as Lily Mason, a role she continued until 1986. In 2003, she was a surprise guest on the Another World Reunion that SOAPnet coordinated and aired.

In 1985, Harry began a co-starring role opposite Marla Gibbs as the apartment building vamp, "Sandra Clark", on the NBC sitcom 227, the role with which she is most associated. Her mother, Flossie, celebrated her getting the part but died before the show aired.

Harry had said about the legacy of 227 was, who also described Marla Gibbs as the “big enchilada,” of the series was, "That Marla Gibbs was the star of it. She's strong. People took it for granted, but she implemented a lot of change on there. She did not hold her tongue. She fought for all of us. She and I are great friends. She and I have come full circle. She's the best person."^[2] She also said about herself along with Marla, who both feuded against each other off-camera, while gaining popularity with her character of Sandra was, "The rumors that Marla and I didn't get along were true at the time. When Sandra took off and I took off with her, the truth is it did indeed create a lot of tension. There were problems on Marla's part, which was truly ridiculous because she had all the power. It was her show. Maybe the problem stemmed from the fact that from the beginning Marla wanted someone else for the part, but the network insisted on me. They were all pushing Sandra, and they were pushing me. That changed when I got big, maybe too big, in Marla's eyes. Not that Marla and I ever had any arguments. She was never rude to me, and we always remained cordial. But on the biggest night of my life, when I won my Emmy, not only wasn't there a party given for me, but there was also not a flower or a word of congratulations. Ever. There was nothing, and that hurt. Afterward, my part got less and less each week, and it became clear to me that it was time to leave and I did." The last thing she said, "But she and I are the greatest friends now. We have come full circle. What I mean by that is we talked about it honestly, woman-to-woman. She didn't have to but she did because people were telling her things, putting things into her head and she was believing in them until she finally came to me and talked to me and we got it all straightened out. We are the best buds. Me and her and Alaina Reed and the fabulous Regina King. Look at Regina King. I didn't even know she could act like that because Marla didn't want her to grow up too fast on the show and be that sassy. That girl is the best and getting better every day."^[3] According to series' lead, Marla Gibbs, in a recent interview (despite rumours swirling between the two ladies) if there had been a feud between her & Harry, she said, "That was never a feud. That's about people wanting to create controversy, I mean people might play that to a little bit, thinking that's the way you build things. I just never was a fan of that approach."^[4] For more than 2 decades, she and Harry were back to being buddies, after Harry's departure from 227 in 1989. The 2002 death of Marla's older sister, Susie, drew her and Harry real closer.

Harry became the first African American to win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Her performance on 227 inspired NBC producers to create a television pilot for her entitled Jackée. The pilot episode failed with audiences and is now shown as an episode of 227.

After leaving 227 in 1989, Harry starred opposite Oprah Winfrey in the adaptation of Gloria Naylor's novel, The Women of Brewster Place. In 1991, Harry joined the cast of The Royal Family, opposite 2-time 227 guest-star Della Reese, whose run ended after one season when star Redd Foxx died unexpectedly that autumn.

From 1994-99, Harry played Tia Mowry's character's adoptive mother on the sitcom, Sister, Sister. She won NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for two consecutive years in 1999 and 2000. First on ABC, the series moved to the WB network until it ended. She had a recurring role as Vanessa on The CW series Everybody Hates Chris. She currently has a recurring role on the BET Series Let's Stay Together.

In 1994, Harry made her return to the theater by starring as Billie Holiday in the play Lady Day at Emersons Bar and Grill. Following that stage production, she fulfilled the role of "madam who runs a bordello" in the Broadway musical The Boys From Syracuse, a play based on William Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors.

In 1992, she starred as the assistant coach in Ladybugs. Harry served as a guest panelist on the 2000 revival of To Tell the Truth. Harry appeared on the second season of VH1's Celebrity Fit Club 2 in 2005.

In the mid-2000s, she appeared in stage productions of The Sunshine Boys, Damn Yankees, and A Christmas Carol. She most recently toured nationally in JD Lawrence's The Clean Up Woman.

It was previously announced during an interview in April that she will originate the role of Miss Phelps in the Broadway production of Matilda, the Musical in Spring 2013.

Regina King (born January 15, 1971) is an American film and television actress. She is known for her role as Mary Jenkins's (played by Marla Gibbs) studious daughter, Brenda Jenkins, on the 1980s sitcom, 227, and for her critically acclaimed supporting role in the feature film Jerry Maguire. She is also known for voicing the lead characters of the animated series The Boondocks.

King is currently starring in the television series Southland in the role of Lydia Adams.

King was born in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Gloria, a special education teacher, and Thomas King, an electrician.^[1] The two divorced in 1979.^[2] She is the older sister of actress Reina King. Regina and Reina mean "queen" in Italian/Latin and Spanish, respectively. King attended Westchester High School and the University of Southern California.

King began her acting career in 1985 in the role of Marla Gibbs' daughter Brenda on the television series 227, a role she played until 1990. She went on to appear in the John Singleton films Boyz n the Hood, Poetic Justice and Higher Learning. In 1995, she was featured in the hit comedy Friday. In 1996, she gained fame starring in the blockbuster romantic comedy Jerry Maguire, with Tom Cruise and Cuba Gooding, Jr. This film brought King mainstream recognition in her role as Marcee Tidwell, the wife of Cuba Gooding Jr.’s character.

Soon thereafter she played Will Smith's wife in the spy thriller Enemy of the State, and was also featured in How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Disney's remake Mighty Joe Young. She continued playing feature roles in a variety of films, including Down to Earth, with Chris Rock, Daddy Day Care with Golden Globe winner Eddie Murphy, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde with Reese Witherspoon and Sally Field, and A Cinderella Story, with Hilary Duff and Jennifer Coolidge.

In 2004 in the movie Ray, King played Margie Hendricks, a singer in Ray Charles’ backup group The Raelettes and one of the musical legend’s mistresses. Following in 2005, she co-starred in Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous as Sandra Bullock's tough FBI agent partner. Additionally, she is the star of the Adult Swim show The Boondocks, providing the voices for the characters Huey and Riley Freeman, as well as the feature film The Ant Bully. Most recently, she appeared in season 6 of the hit show 24 and the film This Christmas with an all star cast, such as Loretta Devine, Idris Elba, Columbus Short, and Chris Brown. In 2008, she appeared in the TV film Living Proof.

King currently stars in the TNT police drama Southland, as Detective Lydia Adams. NBC originally aired the show's first few episodes and then requested new episodes. NBC, however, began airing Jay Leno's then-new talk show five nights a week in prime time, occupying the time slot "Southland" and other scripted television series had held during week nights. NBC did not feel the show could work in an earlier time slot due to its grittier nature, thus the network did not pick up the second season of "Southland". Cable network TNT believed the show would be a good fit for TNT and in January 2010, that network began airing the original NBC episodes, in addition to ordering new episodes of "Southland".

King married Ian Alexander, Sr., on April 23, 1997. Their son, Ian Alexander, Jr., was born on January 19, 1996. King filed for divorce from Alexander on November 8, 2006, citing "physical abuse, drug use, and extramarital affairs".^[3]

King is dating actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner. They have known each other since the 1980s; both starred on NBC sitcoms during the mid-1980s, she on 227, and he on The Cosby Show.^[4]

Regina King was a vocal and prominent supporter of Barack Obama in his campaign for election to the United States presidency.^[5] She traveled all across Ohio, prior to the Ohio primary, stumping for Senator Obama. She has been quoted as saying, "So it's just a very grass roots way to get the word out. And you know it's how Obama started his campaign and that's how he's been winning the last few primaries, by not forgetting about the so-called little people."

Johnny Gill (born May 22, 1966) is an American R&B singer-songwriter. He is the sixth and final member of the R&B supergroup New Edition, and was also a member of another supergroup called LSG; with Gerald Levert and Keith Sweat. His signature song "My, My, My" has been included on numerous romantic compilations.

Life and work[link]

Gill was born on May 22, 1966 in Washington, D.C, the son of a minister. He started singing at the age of five in a family gospel group called "Wings Faith" which included his brothers Bobby, Jeff, and Randy Gill (himself a solo recording artist and member of the group II D Extreme). His recording career began in 1983 when his childhood friend, singer Stacy Lattisaw, convinced him to record a demo. This demo fell into the hands of the president of Atlantic Records, and his self-titled debut album was released shortly thereafter, featuring the minor hit, "Super Love". On this album, Gill played guitar, bass, bongos, and drums in addition to performing lead and background vocals. Gill then teamed up with Stacy for a duet album, which featured their first hit together, "Perfect Combination". A second album on Atlantic Records yielded the song "Half Crazy", which is still a fan favorite.

Gill began a new chapter in his career in 1987, when he was recruited by Michael Bivins to join New Edition to replace lead singer Ralph Tresvant, who was rumored at the time to be leaving to pursue a solo career.

With Gill, the oldest member, as one of the lead singers (along with Tresvant, who ended up staying with New Edition and delaying the launch of his solo career) on the album Heart Break, the group developed a more mature, adult sound, hitting the charts with songs such as "Can You Stand The Rain", "N.E. Heartbreak", "If It Isn't Love", and the Gill-led "Boys To Men".

Continuing his role as a romantic balladeer while emerging as a new jack swing star, he released a second self-titled album in 1990, which included the hits "My, My, My", "Rub You the Right Way", "Fairweather Friend", and "Wrap My Body Tight". In 1991, he was featured in Perri "Pebbles" Reid's hit single "Always" from the album of the same name, along with Pebbles' cousin, R&B singer, Cherrelle. The single made the R&B Top 20 shortly after its release.^{[citation needed]}

In 1993, Gill released another solo project, Provocative, which included the songs "Quiet Time to Play", "A Cute, Sweet, Love Addiction", and a moving gospel, "I Know Where I Stand". In 1996, Gill was reunited with New Edition, including Bobby Brown, as they recorded Home Again, an album noted for the singles "Hit Me Off" and "Still In Love". The title song, "Home Again", although not released as a single, is one of the most impressive vocal performances recorded by the group to date.^{[citation needed]}}

In 1996, Gill also released Let's Get the Mood Right, which included the title song, "Love In an Elevator", and "Maybe" - which is considered by many to be one of his greatest vocal performances ever.^{[citation needed]}} The following year, he collaborated with Gerald Levert and Keith Sweat to form the supergroup LSG (Levert/Sweat/Gill), which yielded the multi- platinum debut album, Levert-Sweat-Gill, and a follow-up album in 2003 titled LSG2.

Gill, the only member of New Edition who is not from Boston, was raised in Washington DC, where he attended Kimball Elementary, Sousa Junior High, and Duke Ellington School of the Arts. His career dictated that he complete his high-school education through the services of a tutor. Gill had planned to attend college and pursue a degree in electrical engineering, but his career came first.

His latest recording, "You For Me (The Wedding Song)" from the Madea's Family Reunion soundtrack, received strong reviews from music critics as well as the general public. In 2008, Gill, as a member of New Edition, received the Golden Note Award at ASCAP's 21st Annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards.

On September 27, 2008, he began touring with Ralph Tresvant and Bobby Brown in a new group named Heads of State.

With over 80 television and film appearances as a singer and actor, Gill earned much acclaim for his cameo role on the hit TV show Family Matters (TV series), and recently thrilled audiences singing "You For Me" in the movie Madea's Family Reunion.

In October 2004 "Rub You The Right Way" appeared in popular videogame Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, playing on R&B, Soul radio station CSR 103.9.

Gill most recently starred in the 2009 stage play A Mother's Prayer, which also stars Robin Givens, Shirley Murdock, and Jermaine Crawford. In July 2010, Notifi Records, based out of St. Louis, MO, signed Gill to a recording contract, with new music due in 2011.

On October 11, 2011, Johnny Gill released his sixth studio album called Still Winning, which is his first album in 15 years. The first single off the album is titled "In the Mood".

Dottie Peoples is an American gospel singer.

Born Dorthy Peoples in Dayton, Ohio, Peoples began singing at an early age. After completing high school, she toured with gospel pioneer Dorothy Norwood, a member of The Caravans. After that, she briefly joined a jazz ensemble, performing in various venues across the country.

Unhappy singing secular music, she relocated to Atlanta to return her gospel roots.

She recorded her debut album, Live At Salem Baptist Church, in 1993. On July 28, 2008, Peoples performed a free concert at the East Birmingham Church of God in Christ.

Life's Work[link]

Gospel vocalist, songwriter, producer, tour director, businesswoman, and spokesperson Dottie Peoples has been a star in the gospel music industry for more than 30 years, since she was nine years old. Called the Songbird of the South by Atlanta WAOK radio announcer Brother Esmond Patterson, Peoples won the top four honors at the 1995 Stellar Awards with her album, On Time God. Since then she has perpetually won or been nominated for many awards.

The firstborn of ten children, and the only singer in the family, Peoples was born in Dayton, Ohio. Her father worked two jobs, one at General Motors, to support the large family. According to Richard Gincel of the Atlanta Constitution, Peoples well remembers walking a mile to school in snow up to our heads because her family could not afford bus fare.

During her summer vacations, Peoples would stay with her grandmother in Birmingham, Alabama and would attend church with her all day on Sundays. The singers fascinated Peoples. She pictured herself as another Mahalia Jackson and went on to sing in her church choir and her high school concert choir. After high school, she toured briefly with gospel singer Dorothy Norwood and then with Shirley Caesar. Peoples' mother did not want her daughter to go on tour.

Started With Jazz

Despite her mother's objections about touring, Groove Holmes gave Peoples the opportunity to join his ensemble and for five years she performed in jazz clubs. When she married, Peoples stopped performing, but she could not stay away from singing. Not only did she want to serve God with song, Peoples had the voice to inspire. In fact, with a vocal range of soprano to alto to tenor, she has been compared to Patti LaBelle. The Philadelphia Tribune called Peoples a ``vocal powerhouse. But singing was not the most important thing in her life. She told writer Jimmy Stewart, "I love singing, but it's my personal relationship with Jesus that inspires me to do it."

In the seventies, while working at Salem Baptist Church in Atlanta, Peoples persuaded Reverend Doctor Jasper Williams, Jr. to start Church Door Records. Peoples became the general manager. The record label produced albums for the pastor and the church choir, and later, in 1984, Peoples's first solo effort, Surely God Is Able. In 1987, People's Is It Worth It All nourished the spiritual world on the same label. Two other albums followed.

Exploded in the Nineties

Gospel music exploded in the nineties. In 1990, The Dottie Peoples' Showcase on radio station WAOK of Atlanta helped this explosion. In 1991, a year after Peoples started hosting, directing, and producing the show, she signed with Atlanta International Records. In 1993 her album, Live at Salem Baptist Church, garnered her a Stellar Award nomination for Best Female Solo Performance of traditional music. More nominations--for the Gospel Excellence Awards, Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards, and Dove awards--would follow with other albums. Peoples's success with her Live album allowed her to leave her position with Church Door Records and sing full-time.

Peoples's 1995 album, On Time God, would change her role in gospel music. At the Stellar Awards, she won Female Vocalist of the Year for traditional music, Choir of the Year for traditional music, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year for On Time God. That same year, Peoples would receive a Vision Award by Bobby Jones Gospel of Black Entertainment Television and Gospel Today Magazine. ``On Time God would also win the Atlanta Gospel Choice Award for Song of the Year.

Throughout the nineties, Peoples toured with many gospel artists, among them Shirley Caesar, Kirk Franklin, and the Jasper Williams Crusade for Christ Ministry. Her vocals have also been featured on many other albums, such as the Women of Worship '98 album.

Once described as ``single, saved, and successful, Peoples continues to win awards and inspire. She not only sings, but writes many of her songs, such as On Time God and Testify from her 1996 album of the same name. Testify won numerous nominations for awards. In 1999, God Can and God Will: Live In Atlanta became her ninth album. She sang songs from the new release to an audience of 4,500 at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia. An inspiring 225-member choir backed her performance.

Considered a Leader

Besides writing and singing gospel music, Peoples tours with a five-piece band consisting of guitar, keyboards, bass, synthesizer, and drums. She produces her own music, plus that of Reverend Dreyfus Smith, her pastor, and The Wings Of Faith Mass Choir, her home church. Peoples also produces the music for Reverend Andrew Cheairs and The Songbirds of Byhalia, Mississippi.

Though considered a traditional singer, Peoples appeals to all ages by incorporating contemporary songs and styles, such as rap, with her concerts. Her dynamic personality and faith keep her connected to others. Another way Peoples connects is through her business acumen. Though her heart remains with gospel music, she has allowed herself to branch out, first as a spokesperson for Lustrasilk, a hair product of the Gillette company, and then as a spokesperson for a southern women's clothing store, Colbert's. She can be seen and heard in television commercials. She has sung the National Anthem at the Atlanta Hawks baseball games and at the Centennial Summer Olympics. Also, in 1996, Peoples performed with Harry's Jazz Symphony and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the first time a gospel singer had been featured.

Already considered a leader among the future's female gospel greats, Peoples maintains, Gospel has to change a bit for the new generation because young people need gospel, need to hear a word from the Lord, now more than ever. By the time I leave the stage, I want to have an impact on somebody's life. In 1997, Peoples won the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award. That award emphasized that Peoples has made an impact on the world and will continue to do so as she sings in the twenty-first century.

Dave Hollister (born August 17, 1971) is an American R&B vocalist who found fame during the 1990s as one quarter of the Platinum-selling R&B quartet Blackstreet^[1] before going on to a solo career.

Biography[link]

Hollister is cousin of musical artists act K-Ci & JoJo. He started developing fame as a musician in the early 1990s. Some of his biggest early appearances were with 2Pac on tracks like "Brenda's Got a Baby" and "Keep Ya Head Up" where he was credited on both as "The Black Angel" as well as the original version of "Don't You Trust Me." The remake of which was released on Loyal to the Game.

His next big move was when he was signed to Teddy Riley's R&B group Blackstreet in 1994. He worked with the group on their first album and then left the group to pursue his own solo career. He was signed to DreamWorks Records and began working on an album.

In 1999, Hollister released his first album, Ghetto Hymns. The album was successful, going gold, and creating one hit single, "My Favorite Girl". "My Favorite Girl" reached #10 on the R&B charts.

Hollister's follow-up album, Chicago '85... The Movie was released in 2000. The album was an autobiographical work and went gold. "One Woman Man" the album's biggest single, reached #8 on the R&B charts. Also in 2000, Dave Hollister collaborated on "He Say, She Say" with Keith Sweat on "Don't Have Me".

For his third effort, Hollister moved to Motown Records. He hoped the new label would instill new energy into his music. The album, Things In the Game Done Changed was released in 2002 and fared poorly on the charts and radio.

As a result of the album's shortcomings, Hollister returned to DreamWorks where he released Real Talk in 2003. Following the album's release, Hollister moved to Gospo Centric.

Hollister is reportedly wrapping up his fifth album in the industry, The Book of David: Vol. 1 The Transition. The album will be coming out on September 26, 2006 from Gospo Centric.

He currently serves as Assistant Minister of Music for New Direction Christian Church satellite location in Collierville, Tennessee.

Dave has also reunited with his former group Blackstreet and will be performing with them on their upcoming reunion tour along with Guy, Blackstreet's founder Teddy Riley's other group. In addition to Riley, Blackstreet members Chauncey Hannibal, Mark Middleton, and Eric Williams will be a part of the reunion. Guy members in addition to Riley will include brothers Aaron Hall and Damion Hall. Teddy Riley has decided to only focus on Blackstreet and Mark Middleton and Eric Williams are no longer a part of the reunion. Blackstreet's lineup has tweeked again and now Mark Middleton & Eric Williams are back along with Teddy Riley and Dave Hollister. Chauncey Hannibal was there but is no longer with the group anymore as he's pursuing a solo career.

Teddy Riley, Dave Hollister, Mark Middleton, and Eric Williams will start touring in 2011.

Chauncey has returned to the group & now Mark & Eric are no longer with the group so the current Blackstreet lineup consist of Teddy Riley, Chauncey Black, Dave Hollister, & Lenny Harold.
