Mass Digital – Without You

•April 23, 2013 • Leave a Comment

withoutyou

We had a track from Mass Digital a couple of days ago. Here’s his new deep house single, which came out yesterday.

Inside of You is a deep, dark track driven by a warped vocal and sonorous bass. Music for dark corners. Without You is an altogether warmer track. It’s a slow bit of deep house but takes a more melodic approach to things. Some flute and near-dub stylings add to the interest. By far the better track.

Boris Mijolic, known by his artist name Mass Digital / SunsetDistrict was born on 13 February 1987. in Novi Sad, Serbia. This Serbian born music purist is making huge waves in the underground house/techno genre, upsetting the status quo by proving what is possible when one combines undisputed talent, a great deal of passion for music and vast determination. Hailing from Northern Serbia, Boris developed a deep rooted love for electronic music during his teenage years listening to father’s vinyls and tapes all day.
Lately he has won few remix contests, including a big remix contest by top label BluFin for Tomy DeClerque’s track “Lowin”. His sound stretches somewhere between house and techno, whilst respectfully treading the line between commercial and credible underground.

Protect Audio – Drum and Bass

Some new quality drum and bass stuff forthcoming on Worcester-based Protect Audio. It’s all clips, so a mixtape for free download to make up for it.

What we have is the Diffraction Of Sound EP, which is a four-tracker from Shiver, Marukomu, Homemade Weapons and Survey. Out very soon.

First, Marukomu and his track Iridium. This is a lovely bit of spartan sinister drum and bass. Throbs away nicely.

Next, Shiver and Displaced. This is a stop start track with that ultra-fast sound that so reminds me of the early Metalheadz releases.

Homemade Weapons provides Slivers VIP. A great build with washes of sound coming in and out before the huge break arrives. IDM drum and bass at its best.

Last, Survey and Treibgut. Another big menacing bass monster that rolls along unstopably.

And so to the mixtape. Protect Audio Presents: Shiver Guestmix

Blurb: Since it’s launch in June 2012, Protect Audio has been committed to showcasing contemporary drum and bass with a focus on the deeper and more tech influenced side of the spectrum. Over their initial five releases Protect Audio have brought some new names to the scene including most recently Berlin based duo Survey and northerner Marukomu. The sixth addition to the label’s growing discography is the “Diffraction Of Sound EP. A four track EP featuring four tracks from artists previously featured on the label. Marukomu, Survey, Shiver and Homemade Weapons all make a welcome return with some smooth production and contemporary vibes. The music speaks for itself.

kORBian – midnight driver

We’ve had a few tracks before from kORBian (Ian Hobbs) from Chelmsford, UK. Here’s an edit of a track he’s got coming out next month on VSR. His other stuff has mainly been deep house. This time, it’s much more tech house, with only a little deep house warmth coming through on the synths. Good but not great.

Blurb: a promo edit of my next release with [VSR] Records, due out 06/05/13 via Beatport (iTunes + Amazon release to follow)…. the full 9:18 12″ mix will be featured on a phenomenal collection of deep + tech house cuts entitled: ‘We Are [VSR]: Volume 1′ – a showcase of independent talent from the [VSR] label, with a dark theme running throughout….check out the previews for all 21 tracks here: soundcloud.com/vsrrecords/sets/vsavar6-we-are-vsr-volume-1/ all support is genuinely appreciated, both from myself and the [VSR] family…. please support independent dance music: keep it underground!

Daft Punk – Get Lucky (Chubby Fingers Remix)

•April 22, 2013 • 2 Comments

Have you heard the newly released Daft Punk tune, Get Lucky? What do you think? Random Access Memories is a very Daft Punk album title. A bit cliched perhaps. As for the track. Not sure about that guitar and the early 80s funk sound. Vocal from Pharrell threw me. Not in a good way. Disappointingly disposable pop.

There are no doubt going to be a myriad of remixes. Here’s one from Chubby Fingers that tries to give the track a bit of dancefloor oomph.  Makes it much more palatable. Free download.

Heion – This Time E.P.

heion

Chilled house and a free live download?

Never heard of Heion, despite what the PR blurb would have us believe, but this is a rather nice bit of beach house. Nothing too heavy or fast, just slinky. That’s especially true of This Time, which totally hits the spot. Big Fever tries slightly too hard to go for that hazy 80s disco feel, thought the Ruben and Ra remix takes it to a lovely deep house place. Dynamicron remixes This Time into a more afro beat drum based track .

And, the free download is This Time (Live Cut), a more synth based version of the original track.

Blurb: Hot on the heels of the RETRO010 – Ajello which is continuing to get hype comes an E.P. from an artist we have been following for quite a while…Heion! If you haven’t heard of the young talented Romanian, which is pretty impossible, regarding his output over the past few months, you now have the chance to catch his vibe. Heion already has a catalogue that is more than impressive, regarding he’s only been in the limelight for just over a year. He progressed quickly from sampling to solely creating his own futuristic sounds in his homestudio. It’s fair to say that Heion is fast becoming a One To Watch in the slow down house scene. Both This Time & Big Fever feature Heion’s trademark sound of beautifully tuned & programmed drums which will catch you from the get-go and the balearic vibe always makes you feel you’d be chilling on your favorite beach spot. Remixes on this project bring another new name to the Retrospective fold in the form of Dynamicron, aka Roberto Marrero. Following a string of releases on his own LOS GRANDES label Ruben & Ra came across Dynamicron when they both released on the Midnight Riot Volume 3 compilation earlier this year. This Time is given an Afrobeat makeover by Roberto ready the summer ahead. Finally after returning from some time in New York, Ruben & Ra give Big Fever a NYC makeover including using a cheeky vocal sample from the Bee Gees Night Fever to complete the package.

Mass Digital – Golem (Original Mix)

Here’s some free tech house.

Never heard of Serbia’s Mass Digital. But this is a lovely bit of tech house that comes at things from a house warmth rather than miminal’s coldness. I’m definitely enjoying tunes for warmer days at the moment, a reaction to the dark long winter this year.

EyE- Third Eye (Elliot Adamson Remix)

•April 21, 2013 • 1 Comment

thirdeye

Here’s a really lovely track. Probably won’t get the kudos it deserves. It doesn’t really sit neatly into any standard dance genre. The beats are tech, but the oohs and aahs that waft it along come from a more chilled place. And some of the hi hats are a bit trap (I really don’t like trap). But it links together really well. On this sunny morning, it’s sense of hello-sky-hello-day really works.

The remix is by Elliot Adamson from the not-very-sunny Sunderland, a town from the UK’s Northern industrial wastelands. If you liked his Third EyE remix, you might want to check out his ambitious Dance Is Dead EP, which is available as a free download. Be warned this is an even less conventional EP.

It opens with the vocal house of —-.—– (yes, that’s really the title). Fine but not my thing. #0020122012 is a tech tune which doesn’t quite know where to go. Dance Is Dead is a much more interesting track, with its guitar reverbing and almost hip hop weight beats. The EP ends with Universal Science, the best thing here. A nice chewy bass contrasts well with the thuddy beats. One for dark house sets.

Big up to Onlyvibez for releasing —-.—- on their compilation album which can be found over at:
