Catch Nadine Samonte as she plays Nina in Dulaang UP's The Seagull/Ang Tagak this September!
DUP REVISITS THE CLASSICS THROUGH CHEKHOV'S THE SEAGULL (ANG TAGAK)
This September, Dulaang UP brings to the stage one of the best-known and best-loved classics in theater, Anton Chekhov's The Seagull (Ang Tagak), featuring the latest English translation by Tom Stoppard and with Filipino translation by Rolando Tinio. This stage performance features a powerhouse and stellar cast of theatre actors and designers and is directed by Dulaang UP founder and former artistic director, Prof. Tony Mabesa.
The plot revolves around young Konstantin Treplev, a budding playwright who has big dreams of creating a new art form. He premieres his first play which stars his great love, Nina Zarechnaya. Unfortunately for Treplev, his fierce determination to revolutionize art is challenged by his mother's (Irina) utter disregard for his efforts and Nina's affections drifting away towards his mother's lover, the successful novelist Boris Trigorin.
Amidst the emotional chaos, the characters are forced to face questions on life, love, and everything else in between. Through The Seagull, Chekhov is able to masterfully paint an intimate, poignant, and at times funny portrait of life itself. He deftly portrays humanity with all its desires, passions, and follies. The themes of love, commitment, art and compassion are still very much relevant and adaptable to today's scene in the Philippines.
Stoppard's adaptation premiered in New York in 2001 and featured a star-studded cast which included Meryl Streep as Irina, Kevin Kline as Trigorin, and Natalie Portman as Nina and was under the direction of Mike Nichols. This is the first time a Philippine production is staging the multi-awarded translation of Stoppard which uses modern language for the present-day theater audience.
DUP's adaptation of this beloved classic will be staged both in English and Filipino. The production stars theater luminaries Ana Abad Santos, Frances Makil-Ignacio, Ces Quesada, Leo Rialp, Menggie Cobarrubias, Jeremy Domingo, Alfonso Deza, Stella Cañete Balucas and promising actors Carlo Tarobal, Zafrullah Masahud, Karen Gaerlan, and Nadine Samonte.
The Seagull (Ang Tagak) runs September 19 - October 7, 2012 at the Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater, Palma Hall, University of the Philippines Diliman. For sponsorship and ticket inquiries, please contact the Dulaang UP Office at 926-1349, 981-8500 local 2449 or 433-7840 and look for Ms. Camille Guevarra or Ms. Samanta Clarin.
This is one production that is not to be missed.

Slip! Slop! Slap! - The Original SunSmart Campaign with Sid the Seagull
One of the most successful health campaigns in Australia's history was launched in 1981, when a cheerful seagull in board shorts, t-shirt and hat danced his way across our TV screens singing the jingle.
'Slip, Slop, Slap!
It sounds like a breeze when you say it like that
Slip, Slop, Slap!
In the sun we always say 'Slip, Slop, Slap!'
Slip, Slop, Slap!
Slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen and slap on a hat
Slip, Slop, Slap!
You can stop skin cancer - say: 'Slip, Slop, Slap!'
At a time when melanoma rates were climbing and evidence of the link between UV radiation and skin cancer was mounting, the Anti-Cancer Council of Victoria (now Cancer Council Victoria) approached broadcaster Philip Adams -- then creative director of an ad agency -- to come up with a campaign that would encourage Australians to protect their skin.

The Seagull of Stage Fort
http://0260mkg.com/
Our host today will be the Seagull of Stage Fort Park in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
He walks regally around the park, presiding over the Welcome Center.
It's his job to perch above the Visitors Welcoming Center entrance to insure that guests are welcomed cordially.
Once inside, you'll learn about Rocky Neck Historic Art Trail and all of the other amenities associated with Gloucester.
He insures that bicyclists cycle enjoyably in the afternoon and that those who stroll have a sense of where they're going as the ocean stretches beyond.
Most importantly he's the beacon of Gloucester; there as a reminder of the joys of summer in Massachusetts.

Ceiling fans in my house running on all speeds
Alright all ceiling fan lovers, the time you've been waiting for is finally here! :D A YouTube video of showing all the ceiling fans in my house running on all 3 speeds (and turning the light-kit on (especially for low and high speeds) for those who are interested of seeing that). :D The brands (installed) including Encon, Sierra, Seagull Lighting, Heritage, and two Hampton Bays. The Encon and Sierra fans are Original to this house (and we moved here in 2002), and the Hampton Bay fans were bought in late 2000's and the the Seagull Lighting and Heritage fans were bought in the early years of this decade.
Video is filmed 7/25/12.
P.S. I really DO wish that YouTube should change the playing bar back to white again (like it was in 2010 and 2011).
